Last month I ran a half marathon off of no training. I had to walk multiple times after I hit mile 6. I ended up running 1:58.30.
Yesterday I gave the half marathon another shot. Those of you that have followed me since the beginning know that I’m not a long distance runner. Anything over a mile and my motivation isn’t there. I started training for this specific half marathon 4 weeks ago. Leading up to yesterday I averaged 15 miles a week. To my surprise and everyone else’s surprise that came to watch me run, I actually ran a good time for the amount of miles I’ve been running. I crossed the finish line in 1:35:38. That’s an average pace of 7:17 per mile.
I ended up shaving off 22 minutes in one month of training. How crazy is that? This also beats my Half Marathon PR of 1:46.48 that I ran in 2017. Ironically for that Half I was running somewhere around 30 miles a week. Sitting here tonight looking at my splits and pictures from the race I can’t help but think that I need to sign up for another Half Marathon. If I train myself correctly I think there’s a real possibility that I could dip into the low 1:20:00’s.
I’ll leave you guys with the million dollar question. What’s the ideal weekly mileage to run a good half marathon? Feel free to inbox me or respond to this post. I’m interested to see everyone’s answers.
