While using Linksys range extenders you may come across some issues, to fix such issues you can update extender firmware. The updated firmware may enhance the functions of the range extender. It also refreshes the device to prevent dropping of connections.
Ensure below points before proceeding with the firmware upgrade:
· Download the latest version of firmware for your range extender.
· Ensure that the downloaded firmware file is saved to the computer which you will use to update the range extender’s firmware.
IMPORTANT: It is recommended not upgrade the firmware of the range extender unless you are getting problems during using it or the new firmware has a feature you want to use.
Follow below steps for upgrading the range extender’s firmware:
Accessing the range extender’s web-based setup page
The extender Linksys setup page will give further option for upgrading firmware. Follow these steps to access extender’s web-based setup page:
Connect your range extender directly to the computer using an Ethernet cable. While performing the firmware upgrade ensure that your computer should not be connected to your router.
Open a web browser and enter “192.168.1.1” in the Address bar to access the web based page of your range extender
Once you press enter after entering IP, you will see a pop-up window asking for a Username and Password. Enter “admin” in both fields and then click over Log In button.
If you had changed the admin username and password then enter those values in respective fields.
Upgrade the range extender’s firmware
On the setup page, under Administration click Firmware Upgrade.
Click Choose File and select the firmware (.bin) file that you had downloaded then click Open.
Now Click over Start Upgrade.
You can see the progress of the upgrade process on the same page.
