Nah, I think Craig always intended for Sofia and Hugo to be just friends. The show never really focused on romance, and their relationship always felt more centered on friendship, personal growth, and mutual respect. If some viewers interpret it as a childhood crush, I can understand why they might read it that way, but I never got the impression that they were building toward anything romantic.

Personally, I’ve always appreciated their friendship. One of my favorite things about their dynamic is how they supported each other and challenged gender stereotypes. Hugo learned that it was okay to enjoy things outside of traditional expectations for boys, while Sofia encouraged him to be himself without fear of judgment. In return, Hugo respected Sofia’s interests and abilities and became a genuine friend. I think that message about friendship, teamwork, and being true to yourself is much more meaningful than whether they had a crush on each other or not 🤷🏾‍♀️

Here we are with some of my boards for the Sofia the First: Royal Magic episode "The Green-Eyed Monster!". This was another favorite to board since I adorable close siblings bonds in media and I really loved getting to board scenes showcasing Zane and Zaria's. Loved getting draw out Zane going into protective big-brother mode. Zane jumping across the classroom tables, knocking everything over to grab his mandolin was a gag I added in, and I'm glad it made it in to the end, lol.
