A federal judge ruled Thursday that police can no longer use tear gas on protesters without declaring an illegal assembly, giving them fair warning and time to vacate the area.
The temporary restraining order comes just weeks after the last rounds of heavy protest in Ferguson in response to a St. Louis County grand jury’s decision not to indict the police officer who shot and killed Michael Brown Jr. A group of protesters had filed the lawsuit asking for a restriction on police use of tear gas and excessive force during demonstrations.
U.S. Federal Judge Carol Jackson heard testimony for nine hours, from plaintiffs as well as police from St. Louis County and the city of St. Louis, according to Brendan Roediger, one of the lead attorney’s on the case.
“Ultimately she decided there was substantial evidence that police had violated the constitutional rights of the protesters, that it was a restriction on their free speech,” Roediger told msnbc shortly after the judge made her ruling.
“The best thing the judge said and she said it a couple of times, was that ‘it’s clear to me for some reason the police are treating this group, around this movement, differently than they treat other large crowds,” Roediger said. “Hopefully it’ll put an end to the practice of protesters having no idea what the police response will be. No more of this sort of punishment in the streets where what the police are going to do is unpredictable and often violent,” he said.
Here is footage from December 4, when Angelina helped the fan who was having a panik attack outside The Daily Show studio. Angelina shouted to the others to let her to the front, urging the others to move aside and get her out. When the fan finally comes to the front, Angelina reaches out and caress her face, saying ”I got you” and ”You’re okay”. When the security managed to pull her to safety, Angie signs other people’s posters, but then says ”I just need to check on her” and goes over to comfort the fan, sign her magazines and take photos with her. She is an angel.
This made me cry. What a sweetheart.
natalie dormer refused to have her character sexually assault a thirteen year old child because it would have undoubtedly been sexualised and excused
instead she worked with the writers to have her character deal with him in ways much more subtle, clever, interesting and involving a cat who is knighted
just in case you didn’t already know that natalie dormer is fucking awesome

The rarity of a federal grand jury not indicting, visualized
A data point from FiveThirtyEight’s coverage of Monday night’s events in Ferguson is worth pulling out. “U.S. attorneys prosecuted 162,000 federal cases in 2010,” the site’s Ben Casselman writes, “the most recent year for which we have data. Grand juries declined to return an indictment in 11 of them.”
That data is from a report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics and covers October 1, 2009, to September 30, 2010. Over that time period, over 193,000 federal offenses were investigated, about 16 percent of which were declined for prosecution. That leaves just over 162,300 offenses that the government tried to prosecute. And the grand jury decided against doing so 11 times, finding no true bill or a lack of evidence to do so.

This is INCREDIBLY important. I’ve noticed a lot of people seem to misunderstand. The non-indictment was not about a conviction or a guilty/innocent sentence for Darren Wilson. This was about whether or not there was enough evidence to take him to trial in the first place. Had he been put on trial, the odds of him being convicted would have been even lower.
Notice how incredibly rare it is to not grant a case the bare minimum of a trial. Especially in the face of conflicting testimonies and overwhelming evidence that there is more to the story, it’s outrageous (racist) that the Grand Jury would come to such a rare conclusion.
There are a few more routes to justice at this point, although their effectiveness is debatable:
-The Justice Department can press federal charges (they’re being urged by the National Bar Association to do so) -The Justice Department can bring charges against Ferguson PD -The Brown family can bring a civil suit against Darren Wilson
(It’s worth noting that many civil rights era cases needed to go to the federal government before anything got done.)
Black people spend about 98% of our lives trying to convince people why we deserve to live
Republicans are quick to tell you “all lives matter” when it comes to abortion but damn they’re quiet when it comes to a black boy who is killed in the streets
Guys
what the fuck
Darren wilson didn’t just avoid justice. He got paid leave, $400k in donations and got married. He was rewarded. This is the system.
