Bye.

Might as well call it what it is. I’m on a semi-hiatus until further notice. I just- I’ve burnt out of Jem’s muse right now for anything that’s not super short and simple, and you guys deserve better. So I’m going to take a break. If you guys still want to do things, I’m over on @snowballkissjess and @centralpointoffailure.

Hello, friend.
‘Hello, friend?’
That’s lame.
Sweater Song
“No. I don’t want you to leave me.” She looked up at him, face blothy red from weeping so earnestly. “What if we need you? What if something happens and you’re not here?”
“Jemma.” He shook his head, not loosening his hold on her even for an instant until he knew she would be okay. “It’s only for a few weeks. If it’s an emergency, Coulson can arrange an extraction and I can be back within a few hours, you know that.”
"But-" She gulped hard and pulled away from him with a little effort, starting to back away. "Never mind. Just- just go." Jemma swallowed hard, her voice rising in volume. "Get out of here!"
The words almost bring her comfort, settling deep inside her. He wasn’t loyal to HYDRA. He wasn’t. So he wasn’t a traitor, he wasn’t bad…. “Do you- did you -love me?” She needed to know.
His nod was automatic, and Grant took a breath before trying to speak again. “Yes. Jemma, yes. I need you to listen to me, okay? I’m not loyal to Hydra.”
It reassured her enough to scoot the chair closer, the light throwing her frail figure into sharper focus. “I believe you.” She sniffled softly. “I love you, Grant.”
“Are you going to shimmy up a coconut tree?” she teased, glancing up at Grant. “I used to catch those little sand crabs. We could do that. And I think it would be good if I was near water again and you were with me. Ease the anxiety.”
“I never really went to the beach when I was a kid. We never really used to do anything when I was a kid,” he gave a small shrug. “I’m happy to be there with you, and if you do get a little nervous or panic then, I’ll be right there and we can right back inside.”
“Fitz and I went once, after we graduated the Academy.” She chuckled. “Yeah. I’d rather you be there.” Jemma snuggled against him excitedly. “I’m actually.... looking forward to this, Grant.”
“Yeah…. One last hug? For old times sake?”
“Yeah… One last hug…”
She moved to hug him tightly, gulping hard. “I’m going to miss you, Leo. So much.”
“I don’t want to go to medical, Tommy….” She tore at her own hair, trying to shield herself from some unseen attack as she wailed. “I can’t breathe!”
“Jemma, you need help.” He shook his head quickly and stepped forward, reaching for her hands. “Okay, listen to me. We need to get you to medical.”
“No!” She skittered back from him, covering her eyes with her hands briefly. “Don’t!”
“A very intelligent one, I suppose.” Jemma smirked at him briefly. “Feeling left out or something? You do know I love you too, you’re practically my brother.”
“I know.” He shook his head, narrowing his eyes at her for only a few moments while trying not to frown. “I just like to feel included.”
“You’ll always be included.” She moved to hug him tightly. “I mean it. I love you a lot, Tommy. You’re my best friend.”
“You might’ve accidentally knocked me out. Or broke my hand.” Jemma laughed softly at him.
“I might have done but, I don’t think that I could hurt you now,” he told her. “I wouldn’t want to.”
“That’s nice to hear, Grant. Really.” She shook her head at him.
Jemma watched him for a moment longer before letting her eyes drop. “I can try- and it’s only a promise to try -but I can ask if you be put at a different base. Still a secure one, but not the one he and I are at.”
“No.” Shaking his head, he poured the dry pasta into the hot water, only barely glancing over at her for a few moments at a time. “You, I trust, strangely. At the very least, even if I do have to put up with Grant from time to time, I”ll know someone there.”
Jemma felt oddly comforted by his words, frowning nevertheless. “I agree with the strange bit. I’m not the best sort.” She glanced at the boiling pasta. “I’m in and out of the base, but yes, you wouldn’t be alone.”
Like for a starter.
“But– fine.” The ghost shut up again. She might as well give him his quiet for now. She’d be haunting him for a while as it was.
Once he was sure she was going to stay quiet, Grant gave a small nod of his head and turned to face the house again, staying alert.
Jemma kept herself occupied until a car appeared on the road, her eyes flicking towards Grant. She didn’t want to say anything- he probably already saw it.
“Good lord, Skye was right when she called you emotionally constipated.”
“I take offense to that. That’s very rude.”
“Oh, for fuck’s sake.”
“It’s confident because I am going to win.” She poured them new drinks. “I love that you underestimate me, Agent Ward. Because you really shouldn’t.”
“I’m not underestimating you.” He shook his head, leaning closer to her with a pointed look. “I’m simply stating the truth when I see it.”
“Let’s get serious then.” She smirked for a hot second before starting to toss back her shots alarmingly fast, still coherent. “Come on, Mister Specialist. Get on my level.”
Jemma gulped hard, forcing more energy into healing. She was starting to get lightheaded, the world spinning a bit around her, but she fought through it. “Stay with me, Greg,” she hissed through gritted teeth, breathing heavily. “Stay.”
Greg groaned again but could feel the skin trying to hit back together, But as she felt the skin on the outside healed up, He grabbed Jemma’s hand, pushing her away.
“Stop..” He demanded, knowing it’s have an effect on her if she over used her ability.
“Greg-” She gave him a look, already swaying in place from the loss of so much energy. “Just shut it, let me heal you.” Jemma’s hands slid back towards the wound, the woman pouring more of her energy into the wound. She only lasted a few more seconds before she blacked out, slumping.
