Tony found his beloveds in their favorite spot at the livingroom window, basking in the spring sun.

“Papa’s all vaccinated,” he called out enthusiastically, “Who wants to go traveling?”  

Even though Steve and Bucky didn’t seem to mind just staying in their newest, safest home, Tony had been quietly going stir-crazy, not being able to travel at moments-notice like not only a couple of years ago.

So far, he’d only been able to take Steve and Bucky to a few places, but he hoped that they had enjoyed those other places enough to want to go out again.

Moving closer to him, fur loincloth swaying as she did, she gave him a smile.

“It seems Jotunheim holds some unique properties not known outside the realm- mostly plant and elemental and I wondered if you’d like first crack at them. That brilliant brain of yours would make short work of them, I’m sure. At the moment we aren’t capable of studying them ourselves, though the equipment exists. Centuries of war hindered what education was available. Fancy and field trip?”

FRIDAY chimed in with a tone of urgency, “Boss, you haven’t had enough time to fully–”

“Mute,” Tony cut the A.I. off with a practiced tone of casualness.

“Won’t that make me a murder target for the Jotun guys in line to court you?” he asked as if in joking.

“Enough time to what?” Loki asked, already filling in the answer mentally.

“Nah, they know their place,” she grinned. “If I want someone in my bed that’s up to me alone. So, if you’re well enough, would you like to have an adventure?”

Calculating that Loki actually had genuine regard for Tony’s life expectancy calculation’s, FRIDAY projected a message behind Tony, therefore, complying with the ‘mute’ command, and yet conveying information relevant to Tony’s survival: He has not had enough time to fully recover from physical injury that he has suffered which puts him at severe risk for heart failure.”

“Sounds epically cool! When do we go?” Tony blurted out in his signature casual tone.

“When you’re not liable to drop dead of heart failure,” Loki replied dryly. “What happened this time? And thank you, Friday- at least one of you has survival instincts.”

She moved closer to place a hand on Tony’s arm, “Seriously, are you okay?”

Executing his signature exaggerated eye roll with a scoff-tinted huff, he babbled a dismissive explanation.  “Oh–, I just ended up with a sizable contusion almost right at the start of a major vein in my leg.  I’ve just been waiting for my cardiologist to formally declare that I’m no longer at risk of having a blood clot break off and lodge in my heart is all.  It’s a mere formality in my opinion really, as I do have degrees in operating MRI machines and reading their readouts, and actually owning one of the best in the world that I designed to be able to work on Steve.”  

Obviously diverting the subject somewhat, his eyes darted down to where Loki’s hand was on his arm and then back up at her with a mischievous smirk behind them, “If I haven’t already dropped dead of heart failure on–” his eyes darted up and down her form blatantly before meeting her gaze again, “–at least three different counts, then I’m probably more at risk of you smiting me for being insulted by the fact that I haven’t.”

Loki listened to his almost-answer patiently. She was used to seeing through efforts to deflect or mislead and she wasn’t fooled by his words.

“As informative as that was and as impressive as your machines are, I’m still more concerned about your health than the effect my lack of Midgardian approved clothing has on you,” she replied, a small smile on her lips. “And if you’re still in danger of dropping dead, you’re in no shape to go to Jotunheim or do anything else with me.”

“I’m actually seeing the doc in a couple of days to get the “All Clear”, which I will,” he stated casually, but a playful glint flared in his eyes.  “Now I just have to survive the high-level gamma radiation exposure.”  He held her gaze before grinning and then covering her hand on his arm with his.  “You’re totally glowing like a cluster of supernovas,” he bit his lip flirtatiously but smiled with honest affection.  “It’s a good look for you,” he mused out loud.

“Then anything we do can wait a few days,” she replied. Loki smiled and kissed his cheek, “Flattery will get you everywhere- in a few days. Until you’re cleared, you can keep me company and catch me up on what I’ve missed.”

Tony’s expression transformed into one of the least-ever seen true grin of pleasure.  “So my humble abode is worthy of royalty? By the way, do you need me to lower the room temp?  And I haven’t figured out what to tell the chef what to make for dinner yet. Any requests?  What the heck do you eat in your world if it’s frozen?”

“It’ll do, I suppose,” she smiled. “The temperature is fine, I’ve gotten better at regulating mine. Honestly, I’d kill for a cheeseburger. And we have plants and animals on jotunheim, they just aren’t like your plants and animals.”

Continuing to grin, Tony rolled his eyes playfully. “Congratulations on giving me the perfect excuse for self-indulgence.  A cheeseburger dinner hits the craving nail right on the head for me as well.  Got that, FRIDAY?” 

There was silence for an answer (although FRIDAY had produced the LED text: “AN ORDER FOR CHEESEBURGERS FOR TWO HAS BEEN SENT TO THE CHEF, YOUR HIGHNESS,”.behind Tony for Loki to see

Tony frowned in confusion after a few seconds, then rolled his eyes and huffed.

“Unmute.”

“Your request has been conveyed, boss,” the A.I. replied.

“She’s nothing if not obedient,” Loki chuckled. “What shall we do until dinner is ready?” She genuinely enjoyed spending time with tony and found she’d missed his wit while whipping jotunheim into shape.

“Let’s get something straight,” Tony said with an obviously forced straight face, “you announce that you were going someplace that you expected to get killed after showing up.  I want details or you will find that I can make you regret not giving me at least a fraction of what I believe you should tell m, like not letting you see the ancient Gaelic mythologic legend book that I bought on the black market.”

“So that’s what we’ll do until supper, got it,” she laughed. “How much information will satisfy you, Tony?” Loki slipped an arm in his, “Let’s go somewhere a bit more private to catch up.”

Tony’s feet seemed to lock in place on the floor.  Loki’s seemingly cold request as to how much information would ‘satisfy’ him just hit a trigger of emotion that he had denied to himself that he had.

“You know what, let’s not,” he said stiffly, and then distanced himself from her and marched to his bar to make himself his favorite drink with obvious angry motions, and then looked at her with furiously accusing eyes, “Why do you even bother acting like you care about my physical health, and totally give less than a shit that your death would affect me?”

The sudden change in him left Loki’s head spinning. “What in the Nine…I do care about your health, why wouldn’t I?”

Oh, so that was it. “You’ve got it wrong, it’s my death I don’t care about, not you. The only way my death would affect people is that they’d throw a party in celebration, I accepted that centuries ago. Even Thor wouldn’t care at this point.

Downing his drink in a single slug, he poured a second but halted drinking it immediately. His eyes started to water, but he fought to let any spill out, his throat ached too hard for him to stop himself from swallowing repeatedly.  “So that’s why you left so easily because you totally believed that.” He stared at his second drink as if trying to decide if whether he should indulge in it or not. “I don’t know which of us I should be angrier with that you did, then,” he said in a hoarse semi-whisper.

Spring At Home

Spring had a power even stronger than Tony’s workaholicism.

He restlessly left his workshop, took a shower and then found his fur-babies, Steve and Bucky, snuggled up together by a sun-filled window.

He kneeled behind them and stroked their heads near their ears with his hands.

“Enjoying the sunshine, sunshine?” he asked affectionately.

Bucky was curled into a ball, napping happily. Steve was laid on his back leaning in Bucky and sleeping as well. The two Neko loved the sunshine - but what they loved more was Tony. Eyes fluttered open and Bucky smiled, chirping sweetly. Steve squirmed closer to tony and purred deep in his chest. “Tony!” @stilltakingmetoschool

Tony chuckled softly in his throat with a very affectionate smile at his nekos reaction to his greeting.  “You two are adorable beyond possibility.” He stroked them both on the head lovingly with his fingertips.

Bucky perked up happily, his broken purr rattling in his chest as he pushed his head into Tony’s hand and nuzzled him. Steve in the other hand wanted more and pushed against his hand, raising his arms up at Tony so tony would pick him up.

Everything else Eduardo said after ‘all things considered’ sort of went in one ear and out the other.  He frowned slightly with genuine worry.  “I could arrange for you to be seen today to address what medical needs you may have, at no cost to you–and before you worry about it being any sort of imposition on me, I’ve blown exponentially more on a single roll of dice.”

Eduardo just chuckled and shook his head. “No, son, I was just referring to my age,” he said. “Fourty years of standing in a kitchen doesn’t exactly do wonders for one’s legs, after all.”

“Come on then, Dad - let’s sit down.” Carlos reached out and took one of his dad’s frail elbows and they turned from the door. “Come on in, Mr Stark,” Carlos said over his shoulder as they slowly walked to the sitting area at the pace of Eduardo’s cane.

Tony watched, with a bit of envious longing, but quickly checked himself and flashed his best PR smile, “I’m sorry, I need to go back to my car to get something.” He quickly peeled out of the rented house to his car parked nearby and retrieved the two bottles of premium red wine.  After collecting them in one arm, he speed-walked back to the door and knocked, thought twice, and then let himself back in, briefly catching eyes with Carlos’s brother and giving him a quick stink-eye, before slipping the two bottles of wine onto what was obviously the dinner table. “I’m so honored to be included at your dinner table,” he announced formally in English.

Tony blinked in only half-disbelief.  “O–kay.  Which one of us is going to catch the most hell for this situation?”

Tony snorts with laughter at their doppelgänger’s expression. “Yeeeah. Possibly me or you. Who knows, really. But since we’re both mamed Tony, we really gotta figure out nicknames here. You can call me Raven, y’know like Ravenclaw in the Harry Potter franchise.” Ey replies with a shrug.

“Not fair,” Tony protestested mildly, while acknowledging that he understood.  “Okay, I’m Tony, then.  So what were you working on?  I’m guessing you were ‘exploring’ the ‘magic’ edge that dad was investigating? Do you mind if I call you Ray for sort?”

“Yeah, that’s exactly what I was working on! Yeah, sure!” Raven replies with a happy grin. Ey is so happy to have a friend who understands the same stuff ey do. “That magic edge was a super crazy thing. Imm still not sure how I ended up here.”

“Well, the old original books that my dad collected seemed to hint that a person was more likely to be able to get to a parallel reality if they didn’t have something to hold them there.” He frowned in deep thought.  “How were things between you and Pepper?”
