Garrett LOVES hockey BECAUSE HE LOVES LOGANNNN SO TRUEEE like honestly the craziest plot hill they could have died on
I am still so convinced that Logan just has some deeply unrealized romantic feelings for Garrett and watching Garrett fall in love and be incandescently happy with a beautiful girl that Logan will never be able to be just drives him up the wall the whole season and to top it off Garrett wonât even talk to him anymore (because heâs dealing with his own issues, but Logan doesnât know that) so heâs lashing out and heâs sad and angry and Garrett is being mean to him :(
My question for you though, is what would be the driving force behind a dean logan relationship?? What makes them tic?
prefacing this by saying that actually the books are a completely different thing to me and i do not care what is or is not canon in them. i make my own canon here. i have to get my followers to watch this show somehow and i can only do that by making long rambly posts as if these characters are my regular rpf fare instead of guys from a bad book series.
i think the big thing to me is that the way garrett sees logan and the way logan sees himself are very, very different. in garrettâs mind logan is like a limb to him, an extension of himself, and thereâs no world where they donât end up in same place, doing the same thing for the rest of their lives. and logan lets him believe it because he wants it too. he does. but he knows better. in my head they've all been part of the interconnected web of east coast hockey their whole lives and so of course theyâve known of each other for years. first time logan played against garrett graham heâd thought, âthatâs what i want to be.â no who, but whatâthis ideal of a hockey player, rich and handsome with a hall of famer for a dad and the entire world at his feet. and then they go to the same school and theyâre best friends and itâs brilliant and itâs complicated. logan knows that garrett expects things from him that just arenât possible, and every second of their friendship heâs trying, however subconsciously, to live up to that. logan loves garrett. very importantly, logan loves garrett, and sometimes he doesn't actually think he and garrett know each other at all.
and then there's dean. and dean has genuinely no expectations for logan other than good hockey and a second opinion when the ac in his car makes strange noises. garrett is logan's best friend, and sure, maybe dean is too, but dean is his teammate first, and that distinction matters. logan can be a bit more of himself around dean, in a way he hadn't realized he was keeping hidden around garrett. and especially after all the stuff about phil comes outâgarrett needs him without all of logan's own shit hanging over them, but dean doesn't care if logan bitches about his mom. dean isn't counting on anything from logan, and that's what makes it easy. logan/garrett is about the love and logan/dean is about needing to forget about the love, for a little bit. to meee
