Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening
{{And with that post I have officially cleared my drafts on this account. Anyone wanna plot?}}
Salroka Mine | Brosca & Sigrun
The slums are oddly quiet this evening. There’s no vagrants to beggar what little coin she has in her purse and no drunk to catcall her, and as she glances over her shoulder, there’s no Leske to follow her into what will almost certainly be trouble. Figures - she thinks to herself with less anger than sufferance.
Leske is loyal when it suits him, and she knows if she would have asked him to follow, he would be here now. He’ll show up at her doorstep later to offer his apology in the form of ale and foreplay. She will forgive him because she’s never expected any different from him, because he’s her partner, because that’s what they do. Utterly predictable, the both of them.
But the quiet unnerves Brosca, twists her stomach into knots and makes her hands restless, twitching toward her daggers - which she hardly ever uses anymore - and balling up at her sides. She can’t help but feel that she’s walking into a trap of some kind. She must again remind herself that Sigrun is her friend, and that she will have a reasonable explanation for whatever she’s done to provoke Beraht into wanting her dead.
She pushes herself up and into the back window of Sigrun’s hovel with practiced ease. She has been working for the Carta long enough to break and enter silently. She sits idly on the windowsill, watching Sigrun frantically stuff her pack up to brimming. A roll of stale, molded bread wheels across the floor and stops right below her feet, stirring a soft chuckle from her throat.
"No goodbye?" she asks with a laugh, though a part of her is actually hurt and it bleeds into the silence that follows, betrays her smile as a lie. The revelation that this is a goodbye hits her and she goes numb. They’ve known each other for all of Sigrun’s life and most of hers. Brosca has always considered the scrap a best friend, stone sister, dear as blood.
"Why don’t you just cut my heart out instead?"
There were so many things that she wished she had the luxury of doing. Wished that her exiting the town was done on the heels of nothing more than her own determination and desire to carve her name into the memories as something other than 'just another duster'. It wouldn't be that way now though. She had allowed the wool to be pulled over her eyes and believe blindly that a duster might've been able to make even a half legitimate living in that town. It had been a foolish idea from the get-go but some part of her had wanted so desparately to believe that Behrat gave her a chance. Gave her a chance to do something that would benefit her and the rest of the carta- if they could prove that their presence wasn't going to be a detriment... but no, she'd thought too highly of it. She'd been so naieve. And now she was paying the price. The last bit of her clothing, tattered and worn as it was, is shoved into the sack as she releases another breath. The loaf of bread that had been wrapped within it rolling into the floor and left abandoned. It was better this way. Better to leave with fire at her heels and never look back- never wonder what her friends thought happened to her. Better to let them believe whatever story Behrat chose to tell them about why he wanted her dead. Better to not say goodbye.... As if queued by her thoughts she hears the voice behind her, jumping as if shot. The pack in her hands hits the ground with a resounding thud as she spins on her heel to face her friend. "He sent you didn't he?" There is no confidence in her voice, and the silence that follows them for a moment only adds to her concern. Eyes cast downward and she nods dejectedly, "Of course he would." Send the person she trusted most- send the others who were stepping out of line... successfully either whipping them back into their places with her blood or adding two more heads to the chopping block. "Salroka, please." She doesn't know how to respond to Brosca's question, and the fact that she has no ability to do so paints itself clear in her expression. "I just-" she pauses, hand lingering maybe just a little too far from her knife that would be safe were this anyone else... "Where's Leske?" Surely they wouldn't go so far as to stab her in the back. No.

19. Forceful Kiss.It is an action she has little control over, adrenaline pumping through her veins as she watches the arrow strike its target, last of the Darkspawn they’d been fighting finally crumbling to the ground. Now that’s what you call a shot. A loud woop follows her movement, weapon dropped with a clatter to the floor of the roads as she grabbed the archer in question, lips slamming against his for a moment. ”For a surfacer, you ain’t too bad at this,” She mutters the words against his lips, and just as sudden as she was there, withdraws herself from his space.
