Shipping Jay and Kai is lowkey disgusting and misogynistic. It’s gross because that’s Nya’s literal brother and it completely disregards defining parts of both her and Jay’s character development. Jaya has been canon for 15 years, but no, let’s make it about Kai 🙄

Spoilers ahead!

During my rewatch of dragons rising, I obviously missed pre-merge Jay, but season 4 really set in how much I actually missed him. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Rogue and think it was a great writing choice, but Jay has been my favorite for as long as I can remember. Watching him want to get back his old memories really made me miss the old him. I know he’s not back to normal, and I don’t think he will ever be. Clearly, his memories are still coming back in waves, but he also has to deal with what he did as Rogue. Watching him struggle with both is honestly really interesting and I really enjoyed how the writers handled it. I think in the past, I wanted Jay to get his memories back slower, but honestly, literally 4 minutes into episode one, I just wanted him back. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the writers handle his past and present memories coming together. I don’t like it when Jay and Nya aren’t together, for reasons that have a long story, but anyway, season 4 healed the ache I was feeling for them. Also, from what we saw when Jay was getting some memories back, I think any memory that had Nya in it was the first to come back. Everything we say was connected to Nya somehow. Just like how he helped her regain her memories in seabound, she helped him regain some of his. My brain has been Jaya coded for 15 years, so naturally, I’m through the roof with them being back together.
