"And you understand that what you do is more than just a job. When you took the job, you took an oath to protect these people, all of them. You have a great responsibility.
You made a commitment. Now, you are obligated to make good on that commitment every day - no matter what."

You know what makes me the most upset about the use of AI in our culture? It's not just removing artists from art or devaluing human creativity -- it's treating people like they're disposable.
Oh, you're not that special. We have computers to do that now. If you died tomorrow, we have your image. We have your voice. We have your biometric data. We can just duplicate you, it's no problem. Who needs flesh and blood? Who needs agency and free thought? Who needs the human soul? You're just a tool. And when we're done with you, we'll just toss you aside and find someone else.
Creatives, listen to me, and listen to me good: you have a voice and it matters. There is no one in the history of the world who is exactly like you, in this time or this place. There is no one who thinks like you, acts like you, speaks like you, moves like you. There is nobody else built like you. Nobody else with your unique experiences and outlook of the world. You are a product of history, of culture, of art, of love, of pain, of possibility. Don't let them take that from you.
I disregard the proportions, the measures, the tempo of the ordinary world. I refuse to live in the ordinary world as ordinary women, To enter ordinary relationships. I want ecstasy. I am a neurotic—in the sense that I live in my world. I will not adjust myself to the world. I am adjusted to myself. Anais Nin

A wedding invitation arrived last week. I wish it had been yours. Our friends are getting married, but who's surprised? We knew all along. There's a distinct memory of Tanner rescuing Tyler's dog from a mucky pond, no care for her shoes or clothes, rich dark earth covering both her legs and canine legs. His relief and gratitude was so large it made me also grateful she was there. That was the moment, looking back now, I think I saw their bond start forming.
You should be here.
We should be celebrating all together.
Instead, the invitation lies unopened where I left it by the door, heavier than it has any possibility of being. Instead, I am recounting every piece of your memory. Instead, I am grieving.
Instead, you have been dead for seven years.
Life hasn't slowed, hasn't paused, hasn't relented in even the smallest increment. If I had thought I knew loss before, it is nothing to the loss I know now. Grieving for your own self is painful and deep in its own way, but to grieve for others is an acute and searing pain all on its own. I have lost too many in the years you've been gone... I know what it is to lose family, loved ones, even the tiniest part of me that was also not me. Wishing for that briefest of impossibilities, One More Moment.
You were my best friend. You were also the first person I really loved that held no relation to me. As I child, I thought that meant I would marry you. What I didn't realize is, of course, both parties must be aware of this. I think you would have laughed a lot at my silly childhood ideas, though at the time I am sure I made a nuisance of myself far more than anything else. Now, all I need to say is "I loved you" and that is enough. I miss you, damn it, and you should be here, but until we solidify the whole "communing with the dead" tactic, I will gladly continue being one more person keeping your memory alive.
And yes, of course I'm going to their wedding.
Just chilling, thinking about the teachers that give and care and love to share knowledge. What if only those who wanted to learn were the students? No matter the age or ability, how beneficial could it be for the general community? Not just in terms of parents/guardians learning alongside their kiddos, but someone who wants to take a geography class, or music, or history? How much knowledge could be shared, how much could we as a society grow? I know there are colleges, and community classes, but I mean this idea as a focus rather than as the mandatory learning all minors must do. Just a thought.
Anyone know of a place I can upload documents (not pdfs) to freely share them with others?

Actual question asked at my work today:
"If you get scratched by a zombie (in The Walking Dead), will that turn you?"
After 30 minutes debating (and searching Google) we still don't have a concise answer, but wow I love my job.
Was going through microfilm of a local paper from 80 years ago, and something caught my attention.
Thought it was just a one-page printing error, but turns out...
Nope 😂😂 it legitimately printed "Caturday" for the entire issue.
