Roses opinions on the flock
flock of the divine au by @flock-of-the-divine / @ribcagecavityy
Note: Rose's views and opinions on the other characters are not reflective of my own. Rose's opinions of others can be skewed at best and completely unfounded at worst, especially when formed from afar. She's "the misguided" for a reason! I adore each and every character in this au and have loved reading about them for this post. If anyone wants to change or expand upon their characters relationship with Rose please let me know!!
Rose likes Alette. How couldn't she? She's the Daughter of The Divine, the chosen messiah, but beyond that she's also just generally delightful. Quiet, sweet, and polite, it's hard not to like her.
Hates going near him. Tim is loud and rough and overwhelming, his views on the flock are harsh and the force with which he puts them back in line is harsher. Being around Tim feels like walking on eggshells, he's too much of a loose cannon for comfort and Rose will make an active effort to avoid his path whenever possible. She hates it when he joins the hunters, it's difficult to concentrate when she feels she has to be conscious of her every other move.
Brian makes Rose uncomfortable in a way she can't quite put into words. Maybe its the way he uses his intelligence as a weapon, or the way the veil hiding his eyes makes it impossible to tell if his smile is genuine, or the fact he knows things he wasn't even there to witness like he can read your damn mind— Rose doesn't know what it is, she just knows she needs to avoid him.
Rose finds discomfort in uncertainty and chaos— all things that Toby brings in spades. His presence was a lot for Rose to adjust to when she first appeared in the monastery. Nowadays though she’s grown used to Toby's unpredictability and understands that his more boisterous behaviour isn’t indicative of him being a threat or danger (at least not towards her), and she now just finds him annoying. She'll give him a small, wordless greeting when passing him in the halls, but other than that she does her best to steer clear.
Kate was the oracle to indoctrinate Rose into the flock, having found her out in the woods the night she ran away, so Rose considers her to be her favourite. Rose sees Kate as a role model and aims to be like her. Her speed, her skill, her devotion, her loyalty— She gets the job done without fuss like its second nature and Rose can't help but find it admirable. She wishes she could move with such ease.
Lexi (@bloody-heartstrings)
With Lexi, Rose only knows as much as she sees, and all she sees are hate-filled looks and pointless rebellion. Where other lambs may see her disregard for the smaller rules as a kind of mercy, Rose sees it as blatant disloyalty. Of course she'd never vocalise this, but her opinion shows in the way she'll avoid Lexi best she can. They don't interact and Rose doesn't want them to.
Rose values rules and structure, both of which are things Wern embodies. Her need to be of use shines brightest when in Wern’s presence, and though she can never quite reach the woman's high standards she will still try her best to quicken her pace and neaten her appearance. Approval is something she grew up chasing but was never able to catch, something she's always craved but has never had, so it makes sense she'd attach herself to the firm but fair authority figure who is everything her own mother should've been but wasn't. She puts a lit of value into Werns opinion and will sometimes seek her out for advice.
"My sins ain't for you to forgive." Rose does not appreciate placation, especially not in the context of a sin. To her, his kind words are empty, meant only to dull the sting of being bled— taking the pain from the punishment. Not only is that something she doesn't need, it's also something she doesn't want. Of course she's confessed to him as every lamb has and has endured his "it's okay, it's good that you told me" spiel, but she was never receptive to it. Thats not to say that she hates him, he's a pleasant conversationalist and she doesn't mind trading words with him if they're in the infirmary at the same time, but she doesn't see his kindness as genuine. She'd rather bleed herself again than sit through his hollow comfort.
Rose has little tolerance for cowardice, and that's exactly what she sees in Max. An oracle unable to stand his ground against lambs, too afraid to bleed them with his own hands and instead running to those with a spine like a dog with its tail between its legs. How can he claim to value The Divines will yet be too weak-willed to carry it out? Failure to act gets people hurt, her face is proof enough of that and she refuses to let herself become collateral again. She respects his dedication to the monastery, but that’s about where her praise ends.
Rose thinks June is cruel. Just as her sins are not Titus' to forgive, they are not Junes to shame. Especially not when she chooses to let it slide for the sole purpose of being demeaning. Ironically Junes the oracle to have bled Rose the most, if only because her scrutiny is always met with backtalk. Anything to speed up the process and pass the act of judgement back to The Divine where it belongs.
While Rose can respect another people watcher, Roadys tendency to pop up randomly in the corner of rooms paired with their other tendency to throw tantrums at random is enough to set her on edge. They're like a ticking time bomb you can never predict and could pop up at any moment and it's enough to put Rose on edge every time she notices them occupying the same space.
Dalia has a similar problem to Titus in that bleeds often come with empty kindness that Rose doesn't care for, but at least with Dalia Rose knows he does it just to get things over with as quick as possible. It's not a comfort she needs, but she understands why it's one he pretends to give. She doesn't tend to see much of him outside of Divinity, and she's okay with that.
Nicholas (@connectionterminated13)
Rose doesn't see much of Nicholas and she'd prefer to keep it that way. She knows he doesn't know her name and wont ever learn it, in fact she's not sure she's ever heard him refer to anyone by name. His disregard of her existence doesn't bother her much, but the way he leaves the task of bleeding to the other oracles does. How loyal to The Divine can you truly be when you refuse to carry out something so integral? She's not sure what it is about time that changes people for the worse, but she know Nicholas is no exception.
Gabriels kindness, while seeming genuine enough, makes Rose uncomfortable. For all she knows he could be attempting to coax sins form her like Dalia, or give her false security like Titus, and given his close connections to the two of them she'd be willing to believe it. But she can never be sure, not speaking with him and not from watching him from afar because he's like this with everyone. The uncertainty stresses her out. Maybe she never truly got over her paranoia...
Rose is fascinated by Jack. Being a hunter and not a healer, it's not often that she happens upon him around the monastery, but whenever she finds herself sent to the infirmary (which is quite often) she'll take her chance to ask every question under the sun engage him in conversation. Luckily Jacks a good enough person to take her intense questioning in stride and will provide her with answers where possible.
Needles (@deathlyafraidofneedles)
Needles is quiet and distant and Rose respects that. She'll withhold her questions in favour of quietly watching her hands sew up her wounds with practiced ease. Being tended to by Needles is always a quick and simple experience and Rose knows she'll probably be back out in ten minutes.
Slasher (@slasherflicks999)
Out of all the healers, Slasher is the one Rose sees the least, only ever being seen by him if she comes into the infirmary later in the day. For his sake, it's probably for the best. Slashers vampirism isn't off putting to her, it's fascinating, and The Divine knows if Rose was left in a room with him she'd bombard him with questions the same was she does with Jack.
Lucky Charm (@fluffycreepynectarine)
Lucky Charm is a large part of the reason why Rose is now so okay with being tended to by the healers when injured. She was in rough condition when she first showed up and Lucky was the one in the infirmary. It was strange to her how insistent they were on helping when she tried to refuse treatment, but their calm and quiet nature helped to make the uncomfortable process a little easier. She's still not entirely sure how to react to such worry now she'll let Lucky work without a fight to avoid that seeing anxiety in their eyes again. Rose is also endlessly curious about their clovers and their good luck, so endless questions are to be expected whenever she pops up within the infirmary. She has no idea if the little good luck trinkets she makes are of any use to Luck, but she'd still give them as small thank yous anyway.
Juniper (@ijustloveyourstupidface)
Juniper is genuine and her energy is infectious and it makes Rose like her a lot. I think the two would get along rather well— they'd have an introvert friend and extrovert friend kind of dynamic. They also share similar beliefs about superstition and it's nice being able to talk about it with someone who takes it as seriously as she does. Sometimes she'll bring little trinkets and good luck charms to give to her.
Cyra (@justasillycrowcollectingtrinkets)
Cyra is like if you took the sun and made it into a person— warm, bright, and always cheerful. Rose also doesn't see much of her since Cyra's frequently out collecting herbs rather than staying in the infirmary, but its always nice getting to see her on the odd occasion they're in at the same time.
Nicole (@hauntedradiostation)
"Silence can only hide so much, I see the way ya look at me." Their dislike of each other is mutual. Even if Nicole never says anything, the looks she gives when Rose steps foot in the kitchen is more than enough. Rose isn't entirely sure what she did to earn being side-eyed so often, but at this point she doesn't care to ask. She's used to it, if anything, and its not like her own eyes are any kinder.
Belle (@/bloody-heartstrings)
Belle is sweet in every sense of the word. It's not often people go out of their way to see the good in Rose, but Belle never hesitated for a second, and Rose...has no idea what to make of that. Part of her wants to believe the bakers lying (like she'd even be able to tell if she did), but with a smile so genuine she can't bring herself to doubt that she believes what she says. Maybe it's because Belle sees things that even Rose herself can't bring herself to believe is there. There's no goodness in someone like her and she knows it.
Tabby (@the-ship-maker-2)
Tabby is so frequently engrossed in her work Rose doubts she even notices when she enters the room. There's no reason to bother her with conversation so she doesn't, Rose would hate it if someone interrupted her while concentrating so she's not about to do that to someone else, so the two don't ever tend to interact.
Shannon (@/ribcagecavityy)
Rose frequently helps Shannon to skin and gut the hunters catches since, even if it technically isn't her job, it feels like she's leaving things unfinished if she doesn't (it was always a part of the process for her growing up). Despite all the blood and gore, Rose finds Shannons butcher room oddly peaceful and good for concentration. They share an intense passion for their work that makes it easy to get along, even if conversation tends to be scarce, and what few words they do exchange are always enjoyable.
It's rare their paths cross, but on the odd occasion they do it's always a pleasant experience. Rose will greet him when they cross paths bringing meat to the kitchens and will update him on the placement of the traps by the sheep pen keeping them safe, but aside from that interaction between them is few and far between.
Rose isn't sure what it is about Poppy that unsettles her, but she can't help but shy away from her whenever she's around. She chalks it up to her so frequently handling the dead— surely such a thing would leave some kind of mark.
Robbie (@nessakangocblog)
Robbie's easy to talk to. His lack of filter doesn't bother her, hell she has the exact same issue. He could say something completely out of pocket and unless it went against the rules or The Divine in some way (which given his devotion likely wouldn't happen) she wouldn't so much as bat an eye.
Tani (@gnarpgnarpworldtour)
Tani is weird. Thats all Rose can discern from the brief moments she's spent around her. She typically isn't too fond of those who pull pranks, especially when it's against the other lambs, as she finds mindless chaos uncomfortable and pointless, but Tani's kind of chaos is nothing but baffling to her. Tani has undoubtedly pulled the "sinning in front of lambs only to self report" trick on her before and it left her confused for the rest of the day.
Lila's a flavour of weird that Rose isn't so sure about. For a while she thought that she was rather wise and enjoyed listening to her talk about The Divine and how he was present in everything. But after a while of seeing her around and listening to her stories she started to pick up on little details that rubbed her the wrong way. Lila thinks she's different, that she's chosen for something. It's confusing to Rose how Lila can be so utterly devoted to The Divine yet mentally disregard his entire system. In her mind it's simple: The rules, the oracles, their roles, the structure of the monastery, thats him. Who is Lila to ignore that? Their conversations always go in circles.
There are very few members of the flock that truly scare Rose but April without a doubt makes that list. When Rose watches April it's out of caution more than anything else, feeling like she has to keep an eye on her whenever she's around just in case. She's heard stories about the condition she's left other lambs in, everyone has, and Rose is not about to let herself become another horror story of hers.
Danny (@mother-of-horror)
Rose loves Danny. She'd consider them to be friends, and if they aren't then... she'd probably still act like they are because Danny's a joy to be around. Even if she does feel the need to be cautious of their temper at times, they're so genuinely sweet and kind the rest of the time that it doesnt put her off the way it might do with the other more temperamental members of the flock. Rose has a bad habit of wandering off to do her own thing during hunts since she finds it easier to concentrate when on her own, but when she does stick around then odds are she's somewhere near Danny.
Katya is nice, she's sociable and chatty and Rose enjoys listening to her talk...but she's also impulsive and unserious, which she likes a lot less. She can get the job done and Rose is thankful for that, it makes her easy to work with, but the odds of Rose sticking around her after a hunt are low.
Her eye doesn't make her a hindrance, she can shoot straight and move around just fine. Why can't she do that too? its not fair. Rose admires Natalie's skills when it comes to hunting. Of course she does, she's the best they've got. But with how cold and antisocial she is, Rose doesn't get the chance to learn from her at all and is left to just silently watch her from a distance instead. That's fine, it stings being around her for too long anyway.
Phantom is angry and explosive— that's a huge no-go for Rose. She quietly respects his skill, but she can't go near him without feeling uneasy.
Annabeth (@ghost-or-something)
"Why d'ya always look at me like that?" At first Rose viewed Annabeth in much the same way she did Natalie, admiring her skills from a distance and not minding the fact they aren't so close— but at least the worst Natalie will do is just ignore her. The way Annabeth looks at her like she's not worth her time, like she's lesser than her somehow, frustrates her to no end. Annabeth shouldn't be someone she has to prove herself worthy too so she wont try, but she will meet her cold stares with her own bitter ones.
Lichen (@tired-enby-thats-obsessed)
Out of all the hunters, Rose is probably around Lichen the most. They both tend to help Shannon in prepping the meat they bring for butchering and are on generally good terms. At least, that's what she thought. But she's seen the cold looks they've given her in the silent moments and she's seen the way they behave while out hunting. There's a cold competitiveness to their actions and Rose refuses to engage with it. They're on equal footing as far as she's concerned. While she'll reciprocate casual conversation with them, Rose can't help but feel the need to keep an eye on Lichen
Rose's tends to try and avoid Shelby when possible, not for anything personal but because her and unpredictably just don't mix. Unpredictably makes her tense, makes her anxious, and it doesn't help that she can never tell how Shelby's gonna be before talking to her. Its easier to keep some distance for the sake of her own sanity.
Rose was quick to learn of Georgie's confrontational side and just how easily the girl can be set off, and she was even quicker to realise that keeping a distance between them was probably the best way to prevent that. She's impressed (and somewhat jealous) of how good a shot she is at such a young age, but would be tempted to try show her some more hands on approaches to catching game, if only to help keep her from becoming reliant on a gun.
Elaine (@gothic-illustrations)
Rose doesn't know why Elaine is so intent on isolating herself and at this point she doubts she ever will, so despite her curiosity she's given up on trying to figure it out.
Mongrel and Pup (@nemophilist-wake)
Rose has a great amount of respect for Mongrel. Even if he never vocalises it to her, she's seen the way he is with Pup and Rye and can assume what it means without needing to be told. Its sweet how much he cares for them, and for the other younger members of the flock. A protector, and one who's genuinely caring. She wishes she had that when she was younger.
Rose finds Pup endearing. Its hard not to with how genuine and excitable the kid is. Pups excited to learn and Rose is more than willing to help teach where she can, whether its showing her how to track animals and set up different traps or reminding her of the rules to try help her wrap her head around them. She's a good kid with so much potential.
Raine (@/bloody-heartstrings)
Rose isn't sure she's ever heard the sound of Raines voice before, and if she has it definitely wasn't spoken to her. Rose is no stranger to the harsh looks Raine can give, and they're effective in keeping her from trying to interact with her beyond whats necessary.
Hayden (@askdoppelgangerandjeff)
It's obvious Hayden wants to be rebellious, but it's also clear by the screams that ring through the hall during divinity that he can't handle the consequences of such a thing. So why? She figures its probably from how much time he spends around Jeff, theres no way he could be anything other than a bad influence. Rose can't help but wonder how many scars it'll take for him to learn.
They don't interact much, but Rose tends to like it when they do. It's sweet the way Delilah checks to make sure she's okay, She used to find it odd that Delilah so frequently feels the need to check she's okay when in the halls, and even now she doesn't really get why she feels the need to ask so much, but she knows her intentions are genuine she doesn't mind it as much anymore.
Neither Rose nor Shay are the type to start up conversations and as such none ever tend to occur. It's nothing personal, that's just kind of how it goes sometimes.
Nessa (@/nessakangocblog)
They never talk, but Rose finds Nessa interesting to watch. Nessa reminds Rose a lot of a frightened rabbit— quiet and flighty, eyeing anyone who comes close with caution as if expecting to be bitten, kinda like how she was before she ran away. Typical prey behaviour. But, even a rabbit will attack if pushed, they were still born with claws and the same survival instincts as all other animals. Perpetual fear is enough to make anyone snap. She wonders if Nessa's the same way.
Rose's feelings towards Billie-Mae are bittersweet. She sees her stumble over her own feet and she knows she doesn't sin on purpose; Rose doesn't tell on her to be cruel, she does it because she genuinely believes it's the best way to learn. It's how she learned. Doesn't stop her feeling a tinge of guilt every time though because she does really like her. Flowers don't make up for it but she'll still try to give Billie the prettier ones she finds while hunting, if only to try show her she doesn't want to be an enemy.
Milo and Silas (@/ijustloveyourstupidface)
Roses opinions on the twins would both be the exact same: hell no. She's like a hissing cat around those two (for the brief moments she's ever in their presence anyway). Rose is tentative when it comes to shapeshifters. Mimicry and trickery mess with her head and the thought of them choosing her to mess with lowkey terrifies her. She wants nothing to do with either of them. Especially not after the whole owl thing, that had her second guessing herself for weeks.
Tian (@/mother-of-horror)
Tians difficult to talk to so Rose doesn't tend to try, but she'd love to listen to and swap stories with her if given the chance.
Considering the difference in roles and how distant Rye tends to be, Rose sees much less of her than she does the other two members of the little found family, which is a shame because she finds her to be rather pleasant. She'd like to get to know her more if given the chance.
Honestly Rose forgets Ben even exists half the time. He's always off doing who-knows-what and their paths barely ever cross. Out of sight, out of mind.
Rose doesn't like him, simple as that. He's a constant rule breaker that she's convinced has it out for the others at times. It's getting boring hearing the sound of his name every divinity, to the point she's surprised theres even any room left on his arms from new bleedings. Jeff's ability to get under peoples skin borders on being a talent and Rose is no exception to this, having put up with her fair share of taunts and insults since joining the flock. Why can't Hayden be a good influence on him instead of it being the other way around?
Its not very likely that the person who's highly skeptical of the flocks ways and the person who's embraced them entirely would get along at all. Lee and Rose are oil and water, too fundamentally different to get along or see eye to eye. It doesn't keep them from doing their job so Rose doesn't mind their questioning as much, curiosity is a trait she herself possesses after all so. She can relate to the incessant need to learn and discover.
Valentin is...a lot. Rose finds him interesting and enjoys getting to hear the things he says, even if it confuses her more than it doesn't, but being around him for long amounts of time can get overwhelming. He's great in small amounts. Oddly enough, she seems him more in the kitchen than she does anywhere else.
Adália, Dylan, and Rue (@adathedirac, @skullcfusher, @crushedsweets)
Rose doesn't tend to interact with these three much and is on overall neutral terms with them.
Atlas (@/hauntedradiostation)
Rose dislikes Atlas for similar reasons to Milo and Silas: shapeshifters mess with her head and make her uneasy. With Atlas it's somehow worse with how his bodys one big blend of different people. Its uncanny in a way that makes her skin crawl— its downright uncomfortable to be around. Good luck getting Atlas and Rose in the same room together because she flat refuses to go anywhere near him.
Isolated, bitter, and drawn to Tim of all people, Alistaire is a horror in the making. Rose can already hear traces of the high oracle in some of the things Alistaire says and how he chooses to be harsh from the get-go and she is not a fan in the slightest. It won't end well, not for him or anyone else, so she does her best to stay out of the risk zone and out of his way.
Aeson (@/nessakangocblog)
Rose is on neutral terms with Aeson. She appreciates his straightforward way of speaking, finding it helpful rather than harsh or cold, even if its not often she gets to hear it.
Shawcross and Bandaid (@/askdoppelgangerandjeff)
As far as Rose can remember she's never seen one without the other and she doubts she ever will. Shawcrosses episodes being unpredictable keeps her from hanging around so she doesn't tend to interact much with either of them, but she does think his protectiveness over Bandaid is sweet
Beddie (@/nessakangocblog)
Rose is not a fan of the way Beddie will so easily mess with the others. Sabotaging other lambs to favour her friends? She hates that. She'll avoid the girl where possible and where it isn't her stares are always underlined with distrust.
Arthur (@/connectionterminated13)
Arthur is... odd, but interesting to watch. At first it was kind of uncomfortable watching it behave like it was learning to be human in real time, and Rose was about ready to believe it wasn't one to begin with. But over time she realised it wasn't something inhumane and was genuinely just struggling, and her discomfort shifted to something more neutral. She'll help it of she can, but more often than not she's happy to just observe.
Rose was fond of Helen when she was first indoctrinated, finding his quiet nature calming in such a new environment. Then she witnessed one of his more violent episodes, and now she won't go near him anymore. It's not personal (not entirely, anyway) but since she can't exactly predict when another episode will hit it just feels safer to avoid him entirely.
Inez is a good kid. Rose never interacts with her beyond what's necessary, she's seen the sharp looks Inez gives her and a lot of the other lambs, but she wouldn't mind getting to know the girl. Inez has no doubt tattled on Rose at least once before, but she never held it against her.
Rose didn't mind Priscilla at first and wasn't bothered by the woman's cold demeanour, but that neutrality didn't last for very long. Rose does not appreciate Priscillas tendency to scold her and the other hunters when their catch numbers are poor. Its already guaranteed that an oracle will do the same, even more so that they'll be bled for it, so for Priscilla to pipe up on top of despite having no right to scold them is incredibly frustrating and Rose will not hesitate to argue back if she feels Priscillas being unfair (which she usually does). Theres no reason to hold her tongue like she does with the oracles and odds are she's already guaranteed a bleeding, so why not bite back?
Lagrimal (@myb0nesandsku1l)
Rose is mostly neutral towards Lagrimal, if a little confused by them. Lagrimal seems to drift around the monastery kind of like she does, but unlike her Lagrimal isn't following anything and is more aimless than anything. They just go through the motions and Rose just lets them get on with it, watching curiously as they move between tasks with no energy to spare. Rose tried once to give them a crow skull she found to see if it would help cheer them up at all. It didn't. She wonders if they still have it.
Hemlock (@/mother-of-horror)
Rose feels mostly neutral towards Hemlock. Their shyness paired with Roses detachment means that interactions are few and far between. Though, Rose predictably isn't the biggest fan of their willingness to break the rules.
If Rose and Riley have one thing in common, it's the way their desperate need to be useful shines through their work. Unfortunately, Rose wouldn't be quite able to reach her high standards. While Rose can appreciate her dedication to meeting a high standard with her own chores, she doesn't appreciate the way she tries to take over chores if she doesn't like the way they're being done and does not react well if she ever tries it with her.
Rose is cautious of Mallory. Even if she hasn't tried it on her, she's seen the way the girl will try suck up to oracles in order to get away with broken rules and she's sure it'll come her way sooner or later. She likes to think Mallory isn't able to trick her, that she sees through the facade, but she doesn't. Maybe she can't fool her into letting broken rules slide, but Rose falls for the ditzy personality same as everyone else.
"The dead ain't a thing t'be messed with." Rose is hesitant to go near the monastrys cemetery, stemming from a mix of superstitious avoidance and a delusional fear of somehow upsetting the spirits that reside there, so she doesn't see Noan very often and, honestly? She prefers it that way. Noan unnerves her, which she assumes is because of similar reasons to Poppy— Surrounding yourself with the dead is sure to leave a mark. Anytime she gets a random shiver, she assumes its from Noan walking over the spot where her grave will eventually be.
With how often she finds herself in the butcher room, Rose probably sees Kai-ligh the most out of all the cleaners and gets along with her rather well. They didn't tend to talk much at first, both of them being on the quieter side and preferring to concentrate on their respective tasks rather than talk, but that came to an end when they realised they had quite a few overlapping interests. Rose will sometimes give Kai-Ligh bones she finds out on hunts or removes from the animals she's helping Shannon to prepare because she knows she likes them.
Rose doesn't have any outstanding opinions on Ophi and is overall on neutral terms with him.
Rose doesn't tend to dislike people via association, but when the people you chose to associate with are Tim and Brian she can't help but feel a little weary. Nothing ever comes of it, their paths rarely cross and Rose can't remember ever speaking a word to Grace, but it's always in the back of her mind when she's around.
From what little Rose has seen of Lina, she's mostly cold and quiet and so Rose is overall neutral towards her. Though, Rose doesn't really like her tendency to become bossy at times, so she won't stick around her much.
Cole (@/mother-of-horror)
(this ones copy-pasted from the other post i did about him because i liked my wording)
Rose's roommate. Cole is...conflicting. Rose is really fond of Cole, and it's a feeling that she knows isn't exactly mutual. He's as kind to her as he is anyone but the weariness never leaves his eyes when he's around her and it stings being looked at like that.
For reasons largely out of her control (autism, odc, manipulation from the cult, etc etc) Rose is a very black and white thinker. Cole is good, she's sure of that. He's kind, he's caring, he protects the other lambs, he makes sure she's okay and he listens when she wants to talk— he's a good person. But he's also a rule breaker, and thats bad. How can someone so good encourage something she believes to be so bad? She doesn't get it.
She can't ignore it when someone breaks a rule, she just can't. It's ingrained into her the rules are a decision of The Divine and that disregarding them would end in her being discarded and the thought of being discarded terrifies her. Cole would definitely cause her to second guess herself whenever she goes to tell on someone, but it wouldn't deter her entirely. She can't let broken rules go unpunished, but she can't bear the thought of telling on him either. Both options feel bad and it leaves her stuck.
Her solution would probably be to turn a blind eye to him the best she can when not in their dorm. She wouldn't be able to handle seeing him break a rule and not do something about it, but if she never sees it happen in the first place...well then theres nothing to report, is there? She avoids him not because she hates him but because she desperately doesn't want him to hate her. Is it enough to prove herself trustworthy? Probably not, but it's the best she can offer. She's trying.
She'd end up giving him trinkets and things she's made as little peace offerings being like "i promise i'm not a threat please stop looking at me like that"
Skylar behaves a lot like a cornered animal, baring its teeth at anything and everything and unable to settle. Rose figures that its best to just leave her be, if only to avoid giving the girl another reason to act out.
RoseMarie (@rosemarie-the-spared)
Rose doesn't tend to mesh well with others who have a tendency to be bossy, which includes RoseMarie. Even if she doesn't mean to be, her brusque attitude sure makes it feel like she does and Rose doesn't tends to respond well to it, so she'll try avoid the other in order to minimise conflict.
Elijah claims to be bad luck, which at this point Rose is inclined to believe. Its enough to make her cautious whenever she's near him just in case whatever it is that ruins his luck decides to spread, and to knock on wood after each interaction she has with him, but she'd also try gift him with one of her good luck charms to try help him counteract it. Its as fascinating to her as it is anxiety-inducing
Nina's interest in Jeff baffles Rose to no end. She can for the life of her figure out what she sees in him of all people the obsession makes her a little uncomfortable to be around. Rose doesn't have anything against Nina as a person, she just can't see her infatuation leading to anything good and isn't too keen on being there when it inevitably derails.
Janes flighty and closed off, making it difficult for Rose to interact with her or even get a good read of her (not that she'd have much success either way, she still tries). Her constant fight or flight state is hard to watch in a way Rose can't quite describe. Pities probably the most fitting, though even that feels too harsh a word.
On paper Rose and Dina would probably get along just fine, but in reality that couldn't be further from the truth. Rose doesn't care that Dinas a snitch, she cares that Dinas a liar. Making up stories of lambs disobeying just to see them be bled, because she feels they deserve it. She meets Dinas "justice" and claims that the lambs are all "dirty sinners" with the same malice she does Junes shaming for the exact same reason. The only one who can judge her, or anyone for that matter, like that is The Divine.
Moss (@firestarhateswafflez)
Moss is a friend. Rose isn't entirely sure when exactly Moss' voice joined the noise of whispers that follow her around, but its been long enough for it to be familiar and welcome. She enjoys their conversations and values their company.
I used the master post character lists to make this so i'm sorry if i've missed anyone. If i did please let me know so i can add them!!
