Ive had a strong wish for ages now that someone could edit the entirety of httyd2 (and maybe to some extent httyd3, that heap of trash) to have toothless look like his original design with the spots and the unexaggerated brows and the more catlike proportions and more wild mannerisms the way God intended so I could see how it would look if he'd never been marketable-plushied into extreme dog-baby cuteness over time which ended up making him more and more uncanny

(lets not even discuss the live action version, what even is that thing. the cas van de pol toothless is more faithful than that weirdo.)

Genuinely would love this too. At the release of HTTYD 2 I let it pass because I loved so many of the other features of HTTYD 2. But the intentional (see: Dean DeBlois' interviews / movie script versus creators' discussions in the making of HTTYD 1) shift of how Toothless was portrayed never pleased me. We took away the balanced portrayal of multiple beloved species and a panther-like design into veering more pet-dog. Turning this unique, wild, alluring, mysterious dragon (who also became friend! yes! but wild dragon nevertheless!) into yet another cutesie uwu dog stand-in trope did lessen my love of Toothless from the get-go. Think of how powerful HTTYD 2 could've been without the shift in character!

Especially as we saw how Toothless continued to be flanderized past HTTYD 2.... it'd give an extra, retroactive kick of power to see his HTTYD 1 self in 2.

Honestly, I would love to see more wild/unpredictable/natural Toothless. He is, after all, a member of the most feared species of dragon in the Archipeligo (but I don't need to tell you that lol). Wild animals will always be wild animals, no matter how much you train them.
