The Scorpio Races were never about fame and fortune, they were about the union between man and horse -a partnership. Once, people thought the relationship between a horse and rider was so sacred, you couldn’t race until you could release your horse and not have it attack you.

Been a while since I posted here, but more Ian and Penda and illustrations to go with the fics. This particular one from the upcoming chapter of A Wind That Shakes The Horizon which is half Puck rides Tommy's mare and half Ian judging everything that isn't Penda, Sean or Corr (and especially Gabe).

More from my illustration projects, today: knowing the difference between a capall uisce foal and a land foal. Honestly, I spend way too long thinking about what adaptions water horses might have for their foals.

Remember when I said I was doing some fics for a more Scorpio Races time of year with some illustrations? Here we go. Tommy and Gabe (and Tommy’s mare, I’ve named her Freyja for this fic) pre-races the year before.

Giant ball of uncontrollable rage recognises tiny ball of uncontrollable rage. Every yard I’ve ever worked on there’s that one horse who wants to destroy the world and everyone in it and then randomly picks one person and goes “yes, this is my human” and that needs to be Skata and Puck bc Skata being slang for a difficult woman and Puck working with the horse everyone else thinks is too difficult and Skata being violently protective of someone being nice to her.

When the hyperfixation takes it takes hard, so continuing the boys and their horses, Tommy Falk and his mare, who is alive and happy on the mainland. Me like wow we really adjusted the colours here to be so much brighter and happier than Ian’s greys and stormy, but yeah it was totally an accident.

Sometimes you just reread a story and are hit with the sudden need to write and illustrate a giant fic from the pov of a minor fascinating character who lives rent free in your head at all times only to realise you have a better idea what his horse looks like than him.
