          she found herself questioning how he was managing to be both kind, and make her feel somewhat appreciated, as well as irritate her a little just like all of the other ‘heroes’.  she didn’t want to be a pity case, only have someone care about her because no one else would, but at the same time… he saw her trying? he saw that some others still doubted her?  “ how noble of you to be the one. ”  she commented, voice quiet and tone low, and it was a comment thrown out as a defense mechanism. she didn’t know how to deal with this, didn’t even know if she deserved it, and maybe, just maybe, she wanted to see how he would react, see if he would still think the same even if she pushed and pushed and pushed at him. 

          he doesn’t take offense  to the way she acts around him.  she was considered evil for so long, she probably was at one time too.  so even though she tries, sometimes it’ll still show through.  anything to protect herself from being vulnerable which he could understand.  ❛ you know, acting that way may ward off others, but it will not work on me.  you’ll just have to get used to that. ❜

          it had appeared that someone else had had the same idea, a refreshing drink from the creek was at times necessary when you lived the lifestyle of a bandit. of course, none of this was by choice, but she had been forced into hiding due to regina’s search for her. it wasn’t much for a former princess, but if she was still alive that was something. if she could still find good people who would help out, that was something. 

          when the woman drinking from the creek turned however, and all she saw was regina, she too recoiled some, feet carrying backwards a few steps. but she was acting strange? asking her not to hurt her? tone of voice much softer than the queens and better yet… why was the queen drinking from the creek?  “ regina? ”  heart was beating fast, surely regina wouldn’t think her stupid enough to fall for some trick of her just wearing a bandit’s clothes and pretending to be such.  “ what are you doing here? why are you…? ”

          it wasn’t like  the wicked snow white to stutter over her words.  she always spoke with such precision.  and she never recoiled in fear as she did just then.  it must be a trick of some kind, to get her to trust her only to strike and end her life once and for all.  ❛ why won’t you just leave me alone ?  i never meant to get james killed.  i know you loved him, and i should’ve just kept the secret but it slipped !  i would do anything to take it back if i could. ❜  but when has pleading ever worked in her favor.

“ even if that’s how you feel —— we still need time apart. ”  she paused shaking her head.  “ you just ended your marriage, we should take some time apart and try to respect that. ” she tried to reason with him, and sound sure in what she was saying.  “ and if you still have those feelings for me then you’ll know that they are real but if you don’t you have saved both of us from another heartbreak. ”  that was a bit of a stretch, her heart would still bleed out if he realized that he didn’t love for her anymore. but it would be worse if she actually jumped into this thing with david again and then it ending up with him rejecting her all over again.

          that was the thing.  even though he loved her, even though he was pleading in this moment to be with her,  he still hadn’t ended his marriage.  he’d walked out maybe, but he never said he wasn’t coming back.  never said he wanted things to be over.  he wanted to do his best to spare everyones feelings, but he was doing a terrible job of it.  ❛ i don’t want time apart.  i don’t know why, but it feels like we’ve had enough time apart.  one day without you feels like years, mary margaret. ❜

          they’d headed to see emma, henry and regina, let them know that they were heading out, say goodbyes and love yous… just in case they didn’t make it back. snow hated doing it, hated thinking that there might be yet another occasion where her daughter would never see them again, but it was just what had to be done. she made her way back to their house, collecting their bags and supplies before making her way to the car, to david, opening the back door, she put their things inside before getting into the passengers side.  “ you know where you’re going, right? ”

          ❛ you have such little faith  in me snow.  i was able to track you down many times back in our land.  how do you think i always found you ?  i know what i’m doing. ❜  still, he pulls out a map and hands it to her.  a big red circle of the area they plan to sweep.  ❛ but just to be safe... ❜  a hint of a smirk as he opens the door for her.  who said that chivalry had to die in the apocalypse, right ?

emma felt a slight ease sweep over her as she revealed her fears about being a new mother to her father. she wasn’t sure what to expect from him, but all she wanted to do was be honest. they’d come so close since their reunion and it was easier to be so open with her family. however, her fears of being a new mother didn’t mean she didn’t love henry. he was her son and she loved him very much, but she knew giving him up for adoption at the time was the right decision. she hadn’t been ready to raise a child and now that she was expecting again her fears only worsened. “i wasn’t able to raise henry and giving him up for adoption was the right decision because he deserved a better life than what i could’ve given him,” she sighed. “i know i have a habit of running away in the past, but i’m trying to not let that happen again. i want to try and give this baby a good life.”

          small nod of her head at his words, what the plan was for their trip out. despite the dangers out there, and despite the desire to just have a normal life of sorts, snow preferred to go out than always leave it down to somebody else. looking up at him, taking hold of his hand, snow pulled herself up, just took a moment to take him in, before hands reached out to frame his face, and she leaned in closer to press a soft kiss to his lips before she stepped back again.  

          “ we should go and say goodbye, and then i can grab our things whilst you start the car up? ”  she suggested, with a very faint smile. she’d always tried to keep hope and she still tried to hold onto that now too, but things were just different now. 

          david lingered close.  as he often did after sharing a kiss.  putting distance between them was something he always hated.  if he had it his way, they’d be glued to one another, so he’d never have to fear losing her if he took his eye off her for a moment.  nodding his head, he takes a step back.  ❛ emma and henry are with regina, at least they were last time i saw them.  in the mayors office. ❜  that’s what they called it anyway.  a run down town hall that they held most community meetings in.

          head didn’t turn to look at him, she remained facing forward, just taking in the view of their safety whilst she could, before they were to head out there. sigh left her at his words, she knew that he didn’t want her to go with him but he didn’t get a choice in that, didn’t get to tell her to stay behind.  “ i’m coming with you. ”  words were quiet, she wasn’t changing her mind. the idea of him being out there and her being here? she hated it. 

          “ it’s too dangerous to go alone and i wouldn’t be able to just sit here and wait. you know that… ”  plus she was quite capable of handling herself out there too, they both were.  “ no, we do this together, ”  they’d both been through so much but things had changed now. magic wasn’t here, they were stuck here, and this world was dying. finding each other if they got split up might not be as easily done as it was before. 

          she’s right, again.  how she does that, he’ll never know.  but if it was reversed, he wouldn’t be letting her go out there alone either.  he never did.  reminded of their honeymoon, she’d tried to sneak away but he wouldn’t let her.  they simply couldn’t really function without the other nearby.  ❛ it’s just going to be quick.  a day trip.  find the nearest store, gather what we can and head back.  i don’t like being out there after dark. ❜

          pressing a kiss to the side of her head, he rises to his feet, offers to help her up as well.  they needed to get their supplies.  grab the bags, the weapons, and a vehicle.  as well as say goodbye to emma and henry.
