TWINNING - A BODY DOUBLING SPELL VIA THE MIRROR

Being a student myself, I’ve struggled a lot with staying focused and keeping on task. In hopes of helping other students or anyone facing similar challenges, I want to share this spell.

This spell’s purpose is to anchor a fragment of your focus into the mirror, allowing it to take form as a second presence who acts as your accountability companion.

what you will need:

A calm or focused mind

A mirror or any reflective surface

The Mirror Card or the Mirror's Sigil

the step:

Settle your mind. Close your eyes and ease yourself into a calm, steady state. If true calm isn’t possible, focus will do.

Call upon the Mirror. Invite the Mirror to manifest. Feel their presence forming around the reflective surface.

Channel your energy. Direct your focus down from your shoulders, through your arms, out your fingertips, and into the mirror. Imagine the energy flowing smoothly and filling the surface with

Meet your reflection. Open your eyes and gaze into the mirror. Take note of your features. Imagine (or witness) the Mirror shaping itself into your likeness—your eyes, your lips, your expression. When it feels complete, smile. The Mirror smiles back, confirming that the connection is sealed.

State your intention. Tell Mirror your study plan. For example: > “Okay, we’re going to finish this assignment, take a break, and then move on to the next task.”

Close the ritual. When you’re done, look into the mirror and thank Mirror to release them.

PCP: Which Legendary & Mythical Pokemon canonically count as deities

Pop Culture Paganism is a hell of a drug cause it’s got me researching which legendary and mythical Pokemon canonically count as gods

I made this as a part of my personal spiritual practice, but I think it might benefit some other people too (plus I put a lot of effort into this lol), so I figured that I'd share it here. Also, obviously Pop Culture Pagans can worship any Pokemon they want, I just wanted to outline which would technically count as Pop Culture Deities instead of just Pop Culture Entities.

Also, I did most of the legendaries and mythicals, but not all of them. I left some of the more recent legendary and mythical Pokemon out because I honestly got a little tired. And, if you disagree with any of this, please be nice about it, this took a lot of research and I acknowledge that I probably got a couple wrong

Official Major Deities

🙏 Arceus - Literally the Pokemon God, created the world (Normal, Gen 4)

🙏 Giratina - Basically Pokemon Satan, represents antimatter and darkness, was banished for its violence and lives in the Distortion World (Ghost/Dragon, Gen 4)

🙏 Dialga - Canonically helped Arceus create the universe, a god of time (Steel/Dragon, Gen 4)

🙏 Palkia - Canonically helped Arceus create the universe, a god of space (Water/Dragon, Gen 4)

🙏 Kyogre - Ancient Pokemon who created(?) and expanded the oceans (Water, Gen 3)

🙏 Groudon - Ancient Pokemon who created(?) and expanded dry land (Ground, Ground/Fire in Primal Form, Gen 3)

🙏 Rayquaza - Ancient Pokemon who may rule over the sky(?), and saves the Pokemon world from a Meteor in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire Delta Episode, but is mostly charged with stopping Kyogre and Groudon from fighting (Dragon/Flying, Gen 3)

🙏 Lugia - Considered a guardian of the sea with powers over the weather and the ocean, also commands other deity-like Pokemon like the Kanto Legendary Birds, so I think it counts as a main deity (Psychic/Flying, Gen 2)

🙏 Ho-Oh - A guardian of the sky with the power to promise eternal happiness and resurrect the dead, so this is definitely a deity (Fire/Flying, Gen 2)

🙏 Celebi - A forest guardian who brings vegetation to life and foretells good futures, and is also capable of time travel and healing (Psychic/Grass, Gen 2)

🙏 Jirachi - A mythical Pokemon who slumbers for a thousand years, is associated with a celestial body like the Millenium Comet and grants wishes (Steel/Psychic, Gen 3)

🙏 Xerneas - A Pokemon who can share eternal life and represents life energy itself, hibernating in the form of a tree (Fairy, Gen 6)

🙏 Yveltal - A Pokemon who represents death and destruction, hibernates in a cocoon before awakening to absorb the life force of all living things (Dark/Flying, Gen 6)

🙏 Zygarde - A Pokemon who guards ecosystems and maintains the balance between life and death (Dragon/Ground, Gen 6)

🙏 Solgaleo - A Pokemon who embodies the sun and is considered a guardian deity, was canonically worshiped by ancient Alolans (Psychic/Steel, Gen 7)

🙏 Lunala - A Pokemon who embodies the moon and is considered a guardian deity, was canonically worshiped by ancient Alolans (Psychic/Ghost, Gen 7)

🙏 Reshiram - Represents the concept of Yang and Truth, appears to be an actual deity figure within Unova (Dragon/Fire, Gen 5)

🙏 Eternatus - While it is much more feared than revered, this Pokemon is a sort of eldritch deity who caused the Darkest Day in the Galar region and seems to be responsible for the Dynamax phenomenon, so I think that alone warrants deity status (Poison/Dragon, Gen 8)

Minor Deities

📿 Azelf - Canonically stated to have given humans willpower and determination (Psychic, Gen 4)

📿 Mesprit - Canonically stated to have given humans emotions (Psychic, Gen 4)

📿 Uxie - Canonically stated to have given humans the necessary intelligence to improve their lives (Psychic, Gen 4)

📿 Articuno - Considered a deity of ice and maybe winter, associated with Lugia and Ho-Oh, so I think it’s technically a minor deity (Ice/Flying, Psychic/Flying in Galarian form, Gen 1)

📿 Moltres - Considered a deity of fire and maybe summer, associated with Lugia and Ho-Oh, so I think it’s technically a minor deity (Fire/Flying, Dark/Flying in Galarian form, Gen 1)

📿 Cresselia - As a Pokemon associated with the moon who can grant good dreams, I would personally count it as a minor deity (Psychic, Gen 4)

📿 Darkrai - As a Pokemon associated with the dark/new moon who brings nightmares and bad dreams, I would personally count it as a minor deity (Dark, Gen 4)

📿 Shaymin - A guardian Pokemon who can restore polluted land back to health and serves as both a herald of spring and a psychopomp, was particularly honored in Hisui (Grass in land form, Grass/Flying in sky form, Gen 4)

📿 Victini - A Pokemon who embodies victory, and whose power is often sought out by humans (Psychic/Fire, Gen 5)

📿 Cosmog (and Cosmoem) - A Pokemon closely associated with the cosmos and celestial bodies, and was canonically worshiped by ancient Alolans, evolves into either Solgaleo or Lunala (Psychic, Gen 7)

💪 Meloetta - While it could be worshiped as a music deity, Meloetta does not appear to be worshiped or of divine origin in canon (Normal/Psychic in aria form, Normal/Fighting in pirouette form, Gen 5)

💪 Phione - While its counterpart Manaphy is a little more revered, Phione doesn’t seem to quite reach the same level so I wouldn’t consider it divine or worshiped (Water, Gen 4)

💪 Keldeo - While it is sometimes considered a member of the Swords of Justice, Keldeo doesn’t seem to be worshiped in the same way or as powerful (Water/Fighting, Gen 5)

💪 Type: Null (and Silvally) - This was a synthetically created Pokemon so, despite being very powerful, it’s not divine in nature (Normal, Gen 7)

💪 Genesect - While an admittedly ancient and powerful mythical Pokemon, Genesect doesn't seem to be worshiped or divine in any obvious way (Bug/Steel, Gen 5)

💪 Marshadow - Despite being a very powerful and mysterious Pokemon, Marshadow is not worshiped or divine in the same way that the Tapu Pokemon are (Fighting/Ghost, Gen 7)

💪 Magearna - It’s a very revered Pokemon, but was artificially created by humans around 500 years ago and isn’t divine in nature (Steel/Fairy, Gen 7)

It's always interesting to me when I see people who claim to be long-time practitioners saying things along the lines of "if you're not posting pictures or proof of your magical workings, you're not doing witchcraft."

Don't buy into that kind of talk. If you're practicing witchcraft and you like to take pictures and post them or document your workings that's fine, but it's also fine if you're a practitioner who prefers not to take pictures, not to post about active workings, not to publicly detail every (or any) bit of witchery and magic you're performing.

And let's not forget that some traditions discourage sharing too much of your work or practice, some traditions are closed and their practitioners might not feel comfortable publicly documenting details of their craft that they may feel need protecting, and some practitioners simply hold personal beliefs and preferences against publicly posting their active workings, workspaces, etc.

One's craft or practice is in no way determined by how much of it they're willing to share with the public. Do you, ignore that kind of noise, and never, I beg, feel as though you're not doing enough in your practice because you're not "posting proof" of that practice. You're no more or less of a witch depending on how many pictures you took or posts you made sharing your witchery with others.

In case you need someone to tell you this, people are going to dislike you and your practice. And there's nothing you can do to categorically avoid that. Sometimes it will be because of something you did or because of disparate views/personalities; sometimes it will be because of their own issues. But you can't stop it.

You can't make yourself small enough or palatable enough to please everyone. So, you should do what feeds your soul. You should build the practice that aligns with you. You should build or seek out the community that uplifts and supports you and fits your personality. Do what makes you you (apply nuance as necessary), and don't worry about what other people think about it. They're not living their life for you, and you don't owe them yours.

🌬 Listening to the wind

I'm quite fond of weather magic, even though I don't engage in it often, but I wanted to make a post about this because I think it's important! Do you listen to the winds?

I've been doing it since I was a teenager - I think. It's not particularly a form of divination or spellcasting but a form of connection with your surroundings and nature.

The wind usually tells me of four things: rain, change, bad luck, energy, and stillness.

If you practice enough and develop a connection, you'll be able to taste the rain in the air, know when it's coming. Change will show itself, first as a whisper, then a scream, but it'll never tell you when it'll happen. Bad luck comes from days when the wind feels heartless and cruel. Energy is usually from a storm, lighting and thunder make you feel the static hanging around you, recharging you. Stillness shows itself when you see the wind, but it's way too high in the sky to actually reach you, your plane.

You'll know when the wind is just wind, and when it talks directly to you.

My location has been going through a drought so to remedey that I decieded to get some weather sorcery brewing.

Calling on a handfull of my spirit allies and some local elemental spirits I got to work to do some light storm raising.

Underneath the copper vessel filled with water amd various rain calling herbs and materia, I drew the 6th Pentacle of the Moon from the Keys of Solomon and said prayers to my allies and the Sylphs and Undines to lend their aid to the work.

you’re actually from the south ⚜️ and have an eclectic practice due to your roots so i trust you with this dilemma. i’ve been harassed before for pieces of my practice coming from closed practices, but to me i don’t feel as if they are closed to me because of demographic and culture.

i’m very much french, white passing with potentially mixed ancestry - living in deep culturally sustaining native areas, of which have rich black diaspora culture. i respect these cultures, understand that some pieces are truly not for me, and uplift the people. in this, my own folk magic does have pieces of these closed cultures however, due to cajun/creole traditions and meshing of community. especially when it comes to spirit and root workings, or even cultural spell casting

I'm going to respond to this because I can appreciate that some people may genuinely have these questions, but I will preface this by saying that I do find that questions like these are not generally asked in good faith and are usually asked of POC in seeking a cosign, a grant of permission that one can point to and say, "Well, so-and-so said I could." I'm hoping this is not the case here and hope to come across respectfully. Now, you don't specify exactly what traditions you're practicing, so I've assumed that, given the things mentioned in this ask, you're referring to hoodoo and Black diasporic practices, along with, possibly, Indigenous American traditions, if I've read correctly.

To answer you, yes, I am from the south. I was born in the south, raised in the south, and still live in the south. I am also mixed, my father being Black and my mother being white. I grew up surrounded by southern folk magic in many forms, and I can say, from my own lived experience, that many witches try to use an "overlap" within southern conjure, rootwork, and folk traditions with hoodoo and other closed Black diasporic practices to justify their appropriation of those closed traditions, which is not only still cultural appropriation, but it's racism and colonialism in action. The taking of cultures or cultural practices that do not belong to you (particularly the taking from marginalized peoples) and saying, "oh, but there are similarities," is, if I may be frank, ridiculous, because if there are truly so many similarities, why would you need to take from the closed tradition? Why not practice those traditions open to you?

The way that I personally feel about it is quite simple — if you are not Black, you do not need to touch hoodoo or Black diasporic traditions; and if you are not Indigenous, you do not need to touch Indigenous traditions. And I will specify further, since you've said you are white with "potentially mixed ancestry," that if your parents are white and your grandparents are white, you are white. You are not "white passing;" you are white. And if you truly respected those cultures as you claim, you would respectfully leave them alone. The history and context here is significant. Hoodoo is the product of enslaved Africans being forcibly taken from their homelands and having to cling to what culture and traditions they could keep alive in new lands surrounded by new faiths. It very well could have been lost to time, and would have been had slavers and the systems that empower them had their way. Hoodoo and similar Black diasporic folk traditions became not only a vital connection to the land they were taken from and the families they left behind, but also a tool of liberation. Hoodoo came to be used as a means of pursuing liberation from slavery and protection from slavers. It is therefore incredibly disrespectful to think it any way appropriate to partake in hoodoo or similar Black diasporic traditions if you are not of the Black diaspora. Simply, is it not enough that Black people were enslaved and lost their freedom, their homes, their autonomy, their families? Why must white people now, adding insult to injury, also want the practices and traditions that were used as tools to aid in securing freedom from white people?

I am not here to tell anyone what they can or can't do, but you asked for my opinion, and you have it. If you are not Black, these cultures and traditions do not belong to you. If you are not Indigenous, those cultures and traditions do not belong to you. And if you're of "potentially mixed ancestry," that does not make you mixed. As an aside and for future reference, "white passing" does not mean "appearing white." 'Passing, in the context of race, occurs when one conceals their socially applied racial identity or ethnicity in order to be perceived as another race for acceptance and/or other benefits. Historically, the term has been used primarily in the United States to describe a person of mixed race who has assimilated into the white majority to escape the legal and social consequences of racial segregation and discrimination.' I hope this information helps you, and anyone else in like circumstance, understand the significance of the issue, because it's about so much more than online discourse; it's about history, liberation, and deconstructing racism in magical practice.

Hypersigil

Grant Morrison (Scottish comic book writer, chaos magician, &c) has said many brilliant and nonsensical things. One concept they have spoken about that has stuck with me for years is the idea of a hypersigil.

A sigil here meaning a symbol of intention, used in magic, that is often made up of overlapping or combined letters.

Morrison expanded the idea, suggesting that a whole novel or other work could be one huge sigil, or a hypersigil. They explained that The Invisibles graphic novel series is a hypersigil. A work of intention to bring about an effect.

When writing certain stories, I am creating hypersigils. I’ve often written myself notes to remember that. I write: “Every word is part of the spell.”

It’s a spell of seduction and glamour (in the ancient and fae sense). In a way, it’s a love potion, with many of the positive and negative aspects of that concept. Something darker than a blessing, but without the contempt of a curse. Some gray magic thing focused on heightening emotion, drawing out lust, and igniting something in the reader.

Keep that in mind.
