Before Tyrone could react, he felt the warm embrace of Tandyâs body pressed lightly against his. âI missed you too.â Â His voice was almost hushed. The two stood in silence, savoring every second of this moment, which felt like being home again. Hastily the male pulled away as his dark chocolate eyes attached their gaze to Tandy. âSo no smart remark?â The teasing question skimmed from the rims of Tyroneâs mouth as his cheeks lifted with a bashful but wide smile spreading across his face. The two had come a long way from trying to ignore the connection they had with one another to what they are now.Â
Tyrone was the first to realize how much he needed her, but Tandy took a little longer. She was different than him in almost every way imaginable. On paper, they shouldnât work, but somehow they do. He came from a privileged life. Both parents still together, and he went to private school, all tremendously different from her. âWhen I thought you werenât here___" Pausing briefly, another exhale fell from his lips. In truth, he was not even sure how to explain the fear that had been riding in his mind for weeks.Â
Tyrone bit the bottom rim of his mouth slightly as he slowly ran his hand down to Tandyâs. The tip of his fingers brushed against the dorsal of her hand gently, moving his fingers into hers. His dark brown eyes fell to their fingers now interlocking. "I meant it when I said I couldnât imagine my life without you."Â The words glided from his lips softly in a genuine tone. Before Tandy, Tyrone was being swallowed by the past. Every day he became angrier at the injustice of his brotherâs death, which nobody seemed to care about anymore. Not that he was shocked, it was just another thug on the street gone to them.
It is 2021, but society still only sees one thing when they look at him, black skin. If it came down to it, they wouldnât hesitate to shoot at Tyrone, and the worst part is, police especially would get away with it as they did with Billy years prior and so many in his community. Watching an officer shoot at your brother for no reason can screw with you, but then Tandy came into his life and probably was the first person who was just as messed up as him. And though their demons are different, she got it.
tandy honestly was so happy to see him, she couldnât think of anything smart to say. she had missed him so much. after all he was like a piece of her soul. he wasnât her other half, but the one person who made her feel. tandy loved to tease tyrone, because he was so serious sometimes, and it made smile. his smile tandy concluded, was so nice and genuine that nothing bad could exist with it. the realization he missed her too, felt like cool water to her dry soul.Â
âi mean i couldâve said it took you long enough to find me, or something equally snarky but i figured it was better to remain nice so you would forget how snarky i can beâ she joked. âi missed youâ she admitted. there was a warm feeling spreading throughout her body. she was still so close to him she could smell his familiar cologne or body spray or whatever it was, it was like home. âwhere have you been?âshe hit him in a playful matter âdo you know how hard it is to pretend people arenât annoying?âÂ
tyrone had been smiling at her, and what she had felt earlier was true. nothing bad could exist in a world with his smile. they both had a horrible trageys, but tyrone always rose above it. tandy was petty and had turned to crime. she wanted to be more like tyrone, but not having him around wasnât easy. he inspired her to be better, but accepted her as is. made her feel like she was good enough, but also showed her she could be better.Â
âi am tired of dealing with people today, lets go somewhere to hang out, just the two of usâ why that idea made her excited she didnât know. after all they had spent so much time alone in the past, but this felt different. was it just because she missed? or was it something else stirring? it couldnât be. she knew the type of girl he liked. she remembered Evita. she was beautiful, likeable, easy going, and tough, without being angry like tandy. that was simply not tandy, so she brushed off the thoughts as just missing her best friendÂ
