What's a cirriped?
Cirripedia are the family of animals, that includes barnacles.
They are crustaceans with feathered feet.
Unlike other closely related species, they don't use these limbs to swim with.
Instead they use them to scoop up particles, that are floating freely in the water.
These particles are then gathered, and pushed into a sort of pouch, known as a rectocele, so that the cirriped can snack on them, when there is less food availability.
The particles may be scraps of meat, that are left over after a hunt, but more often than not, they tend to be unfertilised eggs, from other sea creatures, left over from a spawning frenzy.
These events come and go, with the regular flow of visiting sea life.
Sometimes these events can be months apart, so the cirriped's ability to preserve food, is vital to their survival. for this reason, they are sometimes referred to as... "The camel of the sea".
