what if Joel Miller survived?

He passed out from the pain of the gunshot wounds and the beatings he took only to find himself in medical surrounded by ellie Tommy and Maria looking mortified.

His skull was damaged and his legs are permanently done for, meaning he’s going to be wheeled around or on crutches.

and the fact is he is miserable. He has to depend on people for the first time for simple things since Sarah and his now ex (probably dead) wife.

Ellie definitely feels guilty probably scared to talk to joel since she feels somewhat to blame for not being able to help him.

Joel however immediately shuts that idea down and comforts her. (they get a reboot and are back to their father daughter relationship)

In the first few months he gets depressed and maybe even a little suicidal finding himself to be useless now.

and heres the thing, Joel probably needs a lot of help and some company now, the man can no longer go on a mission due to his injuries.

So it would be Maria Ellie and Tommy maybe Dina or Jesse popping over to help out and give him some company.

He definitely spends a lot of time carving and playing his guitar now since he cannot do much other then go round town, to the markets, or go to the pub to socialise
