“Hnn so the child has more experiance than the ‘adult’” She mused under her breath, noticing the other turn bright read. It didn’t really matter though she thought that, that kinda thing wasn’t 'normal’ here, after all without Saki here something like that wouldn’t phase her. But she’d take what she could for material to use to tease others for her own amusment.

“I guess it’s similar to that.” Ghosts werent really a thing that was talked about in her village but she remembered reading on them in the libary when having to study past civiliation things that invovled possible cantus. That and the false minoshiro mentioned something similar to ghost.. a poly-something that could make things move like cantus enabled a person to do with their mind.

Maria didn’t really reconize the name of the food Saya mentioned though she just shruged and nodded, “er sure”

For a moment, Saya thought Maria might have been teasing her, but she didn’t quite catch what she’d said exactly. It wasn’t that out of the ordinary for her to get teased though. She was easily flustered, and plenty of her friends took advantage of it for amusement. 

Still, she was pleased she had managed to learn so much about the girl. Considering they’d be living together for a while, it would make it easier to get along. “So the future’s very different, but some things are still similar,” she noted, tilting her head to the side. “Well, I hope it won’t be too hard for you to adjust. If you have any questions about anything, you can always ask me!” Granted there was a lot she may not know, but there was nothing that said she couldn’t learn!

“Alright then!” Saya clapped her hands together and headed for the kitchen. After a moment of inspecting the groceries, she decided what she wanted to make and began to cook. It made her smile when she remembered cooking alongside Yata in the kitchen of Homra. When she was finished, she dished it out for the two of them and set the table. 

“I hope you like it! Your first taste of food from the past.”

She’d thought she’d had it under control, honestly. Her power had been more manageable with the help of the Red Club’s guidance. Random activation had certainly been occurring less frequently. And then she’d busted the door on the dryer in the laundromat. 

A bead of sweat ran down her cheek as she stared at the door, then looked at her hand, looking more than a little heartbroken. 

“Really..? I thought I was controlling it..”

The girl that had been there denied owning the dog, and Gundham felt a small part of himself become excited. If it wasn’t hers, then he could care for the creature. Of course, talking to his roommate about it was still a necessity, but he could at least take it home first, even if just for one night. Maybe finding the owner was a possibility, though whatever owner the dog had previously must not have been very good for the dog to have been lost so carelessly.

Gundham stood up and the dog sat at his feet, tail wagging. “I see… if this beast does not have a contract with you, then I shall share my home with it, whether it is temporary or not.” He paused for a moment. Lost… “This beast has amazing sense of loyalty. If it had a home to return to, I have no doubt it would have traveled back by now.”

Gundham’s hamsters seemed to stir restlessly within his scarf, not really upset by anything, yet almost on edge… maybe something was off? He couldn’t tell, nor could his hamsters, but the feeling kept nagging at him. 

“You… what’s your name, human?”

Have....a contract? What? Saya was  more than a little lost, but the guy didn’t seem to be bad news...really, anyone who treated a dog kindly couldn’t be a bad person at all. “That’s true...though it may not be able to find home..” Wasn’t there something about how you had to leave out things that smelled like you if you’d lost a pet? There was no telling how far from home it had run, if it was even lost. Hopefully no one had tried to drop it off...that would really make her angry. 

“Still, no reason you can’t take it in and take care of it,” she smiled, glancing back at the dog. It definitely looked happy to see people and it was hard not to smile when a dog was wagging its tail so enthusiastically. “It seems to like you anyway, so it’s probably not a bad idea.” 

She definitely hadn’t imagined she’d come across a scene like this when she’d taken her detour on the way home. But maybe she could bring up getting a pet to Yata later on. Maria might enjoy having one around. Well, it’d be something to bring up to her roommates later, anyway.

“Hm?” Her eyes widened at his question, or rather, how he’d worded it. She’d thought he was human too, but could it be there were other beings there? “Ah, it’s Saya. Konohana, Saya. And yours?”

Stray? | Gundham & Anyone

Gundham didn’t really like to go out for groceries. This was mainly due to the fact that this would require him to go into an area with notably heavy foot traffic. As a solution, Gundham decided to go late in the evening, just before nightfall. He was sure he’d make it before the store closed.

Unfortunately, he didn’t account for getting sidetracked by a dog he found on the streets. It was a mutt, clearly, though the dog seemed healthy enough that Gundham had to question whether or not the dog was a stray at all.

After a while, he had realized someone was watching him for a prolonged amount of time while he was examining and petting the dog.

“Oh, do you provide for this canine?” Gundham asked them. If not, he planned to take in the animal. After all, he could easily train it. All he’d need to do is bring it up with his roommate. “If you do, my apologies for not asking permission before coming into contact with him.”

Working at the bookstore could certainly be a bit slow and monotonous--but it was entertaining when people came in at least. And she was pleased that sometimes the staff were given free copies of a new book as part of a promotional deal. So, with a new book to read tucked under her arm, she made her way home.

She figured she’d take a detour this time--though she wanted to start reading as soon as possible, she was still getting familiar with the layout of the city. She was surprised to see a rather...odd looking individual patting a rather happy looking dog. She tilted her head to the side, a bit surprised by the scene, only to jump when she was noticed.

 “A-ah, um...no, it’s not mine..” Though it was definitely cute.. It didn’t really look like a stray either. “I haven’t really seen it around...I thought it was yours?” Of course, most people probably would have been cautious in approaching such an individual..but most people also didn’t have super strength, so she reasoned she’d be fine if anything happened.

“Could it be lost..?” Either that or someone was taking pretty good care of a stray...though the thought warmed her heart, she hoped the dog at least had some place to call home where it was safe and warm.

He hadn’t been prepared in the slightest to be bombarded with events that had taken place in a world without him in so much detail. He couldn’t very well deny that perhaps there really did exist some other world where things were a bit different.. At the very least he could believe that she sincerely believed in it. 

Yata tried to pay attention and he really did ingest as much information as she was giving him but there was only so much he could take. It wasn’t even that she was rambling on seemingly without end but the fact that his heart just wasn’t strong enough to deal with standing in the same room with a girl and having what seemed to be a normal conversation. And it was the matter of discussion about the position of her mark that was driving that even more to the forefront of his mind and making him even more self conscious of her presence. 

“I-I see..” Would it seem like an insensitive thing to only respond to that? Maybe under more comfortable circumstances he would have more things to say.. He definitely wanted to chuckle about Mikoto getting held back.. But he was fairly sure he’d graduated. Then again he’d been wondering for a while now just how much he really even knew about him. 

“W-Wait just a minute!!” He refocused on her, eyes wide and mouth agape in shock. She wanted to take a picture of what now?! How would that make it any less embarrassing?! The mark was still there. “C-Can’t we just wait for her to get back?! I-I’ll wait! S-So no pictures!!”

Her cheeks flushed as she realized she was rambling, pressing a hand to her mouth. “S-sorry..!” She hadn’t realized she was talking so much...but she had grown very fond of the club since she’d joined. She could understand why Yata loved Homra so much. Even in a different universe, he still cared a great deal for the group. 

She hoped that, in some way, the version of her in that universe would find her way there eventually. After all, it had been a good experience for her, so she was sure the other Saya could use that experience as well. She wondered just how similar her situation would be though..

However, his reaction to her suggestion only made her blush darken. “U-um..! W-well, I mean..I-I can crop it so you can’t see anything...I-I think..” She bit her lip and looked off to the side. “I-I guess we could, b-but I don’t know when that would be..” She fidgeted awkwardly and stared down at the floor. 

“I-I just don’t understand why it showed up there, of all places..” she mumbled, rubbing her stinging cheeks. “I-I mean, it’d be a lot easier to just roll up my sleeve if it had been on my arm but..” It was like the universe was purposefully trying to make this as embarrassing for her as possible..

Surely she had to have something that would show it...

“AH!” she suddenly exclaimed, eyes widening. “The pictures from the beach trip!” She had to have some on her phone, right? After a moment of digging, she produced her phone and hurriedly rifled through her pictures. Finally, she found one of herself  holding up a seashell. Though only the top half of the mark was visible. Satisfied, she zoomed way in so it wouldn’t be completely obvious and showed him the phone.

“D-does that work...?”

“Hmm..I’m not really picky, honestly! I like most kinds of cake...I guess it’d be kind of plain of me to say something like I like yellow cake with chocolate frosting...ah, red velvet is good too..” She bit her lip as she thought before laughing sheepishly. “Well, you can never go wrong with chocolate, anyway.”

She didnt really think it odd at all for close friends to do things like that, though she did have to admit it was rarer for those of the opposite genders to go too far unless they offically partnered up and register in the school as partners. “Most dont go that far if you’re refering to that, specially those of the opposite genders. it’s rare unless they’re an offical registered partner pair”

“Hnn i guess it does sound it, though stories about demons and karma-demons are just stories. no one has proof one or the other actually exist. not like phase-cats, those at least have people claiming to see them..” Though most who claim to have seen one don’t exist in the village very long after. Mention of the creature alone would make any child behave instintly.

Maria blinked, she hadn’t really thought about eating since she arrived here. “…not partiqularly, though i guess i’ll eat if theres food being made.”

“O-oh..” Saya gave a sigh of relief. “T-that’s good! I-I think. Most likely.” After all that was something intimate, right? She couldn’t even begin to imagine doing that with a stranger...l-let alone a close friend or partner! Maria talked about it so calmly, and yet, Saya herself was turning into a tomato. What a strange future lay ahead..

Her brows furrowed and she tilted her head. “So it’s kind of like the ghost stories we have here, in a way. Some people claim buildings are haunted and sometimes people experience things, and others don’t..” At least, that’s the way she understood it. Totsuka’s ghost story was still fresh in her mind--and not just because of what happened during the test of courage..

Still, she smiled at Maria’s response. “Well, I was thinking about making some lunch,” she nodded. “I’m not as good at making chahan as Yata-kun is, but I can whip up something pretty tasty!”

Maria ran her hand through a strand of her hair absentmindly, “Yea, we show endearment like those creatures do. usually close friends more so than just classmates” Judging by the fact the other looked flustered… things like that weren’t really a normal thing here. That was interesting a bit though she supposed it made sense, after all peoples dna was slightly modified to have them react similar to Bonobos to avoid aggression for things like frustration and stress and being over emotional so co-exist with death feedback.

She shrugged, “It’s only dangerous if a demon shows up. After all only a demon can hurt and kill humans without deathfeed back affecting them but that hasn’t happened in 300 years. Other than that, humans don’t really even try to hurt another. It’s how its always been in the village, so this era is more so strange that it can happen really”

“ I guess something like pushing someone away or hitting them phsycially wouldn’t really cause any harm, Saki used to hit Satoru a lot when they argued and she was fine. It’s more so if we use Cantus I guess but still, people don’t really try to purposly hurt another in the village”

Saya pressed her hands to her face, trying not to squeak. So human society became something like that?! It was unimaginable. “T-the future sounds like such a strange place..” she murmured. “I-i mean, here, it’s pretty much unthinkable that a person would do something like that with a person they’re not dating..I mean, sometimes it does happen with people who are just...l-looking for that sort of thing, but...” What an embarrassing topic.

Her brows furrowed at the mention of demons and she bit her lip. “That sounds scary..” Being unable to fight back sounded frightening. But she knew her power wasn’t something a lot of people had. “In a way it sounds nice, but also..” There were definitely several embarrassing things about future society, even if it seemed peaceful.. “I don’t think I would ever be able to live in any sort of barrier...Not being able to see the outside world..it sounds like you’d go a bit stir crazy?” Maybe that was just her, as someone who’d lived a regular life up until her powers had surfaced.

“I see..” Well, that was a bit of a relief, that they could get away with some kind of self-defense if need be. “That’s good...I don’t think you’ll have a problem here, since this town seems pretty peaceful...though there’s always a chance dangerous people could show up..” At least Maria hadn’t mentioned her praise of Yata..

She sighed and shook her head, smiling. “But we’ll worry about that later. Are you hungry?”

Japanese novels are terrifying. At least I can kinda read the prologue, some diaglogue and bits & pieces all over the place.
