Pairings: Mike Wheeler x Reader, Will Byers x Sibling!Reader
A/N: People really like Mike with an older reader. No judgement though, I’ll write almost anything. If I don’t mention it the reader is like 15 in this.
Y/N Byers. The middle child of three. Freshman in High school, and the most bad ass babysitter the boys could ask for. The girl had always been this way as well. Pretty, kind and very caring. All of Will’s friends adored her, and after the events of Will’s disappearance that bond only strengthened.
Out of all of Will’s friends, Y/N had always been closest to Mike. There wasn’t any real explanation to it, it was just like some unknown force that made it to be that way. And the way the boy cared about her little brother helped it out a bit as well.
Now, it was evident to most people who knew them that the two had romantic feelings for one another, but neither ever acted on it. Whether it was because Y/N felt bad for liking one of her brother’s best friends or because of the small age difference between the two of them. Either way they both lived in painful, oblivious denial.
It was the night of the snow dance, and Y/N had agreed to help out. Both to give her mother some relief about Will and for her own selfish reasons. Although she didn’t want to admit it, she wanted Mike to see her all dressed up. She put on a cute dress and curled her hair. Her eyes focused on herself in the mirror and she nodded her head in approval.
Y/N left the washroom to find her mother teaching Will to dance while Johnathon filmed the whole ordeal. A grin grew on her face as she made her way over, “Mind if I cut in?” She asked, taking a hold of Will’s hand when her mother stepped away and continuing to dance with him, “Well, don’t you look handsome tonight.” She teased as they danced together.
Will rolled his eyes in return, “Do people still dance like this?” He questioned looking around at his family.
“Oh yeah. It’s what’s happening.”
Y/N had been set with the task of making sure the students didn’t dance to “intimately” with one another. Whatever that meant. If we’re honest, she didn’t really care about how close the student stood when they danced and there were teachers who always told them off before she could.
That’s how she found herself standing next to the food table, eyes lazily scanning the sea of bodies. She occasionally looked over at her brother and his friends, lingering a little longer on Mike then she should have. It was rather uneventful for her, at least until Dustin passed, his hair styled to high heaven. Conceal her grin behind the glass of punch in her hand she winked at him, “Looking good there Dusty.” She offered, watching as he grinned like a goof in thanks and headed over to his friends.
It wasn’t long after that, that a slow song started to play through the gymnasium and kids started to pair up. Her eyes fell to Mike once more at this moment, she furrowed her eyebrows in determination and set her cup down before making her way across the room.
Once she stopped in front of him her hand was stretched out in front of her. Mike just gave her a questioning look at this, “Come on, let’s dance.” She clarified, gesturing her hand persistently.
Moments later, Y/N found herself with her arms around Mike’s shoulders as they danced in awkward silence. Maybe, just maybe she hadn’t taken the best course of action there.
Mike cleared his throat, “Um, Y/N?” He asked.
The boys cheeks turned red as he looked away from her face, “W-Well, I kind of like you.”
She laughed nervously, “Yeah, I like you too? That’s why we’re friends?” She offered, trying to avoid the subject.
“That’s, uh, not what I meant.” He said, clearly kind of frustrated by the matter.
“I know.” She murmured, biting the inside of her cheek as the boy turned his head to make eye contact with her.
Well there’s no denying things now. Was the only thought in her head as they leaned in closer to one another.
The kiss was as you’d expect from two kids who had never done this before, short, sweet and really freaking awkward.
As they pulled away, cheeks burning Y/N gave another nervous laugh, “Maybe next year I can be your date to a dance.”
