Last Hoorah in Japan (23/2/12)
So it was our last morning in Tokyo, not including tomorrow which is check-out and transit again! We were up around 9 again, Thuge quickly into the shower and Lazza and I lazing around until Katso arrived.
The weather was cold and rainy so we grabbed our brollies and headed for the train station for the last time. Today, Katso planned for us to see another museum, another temple/shrine, lunch, then visit his aunt, walk the streets some more, then home!
The museum was first. It was similar to the museum from yesterday, but it was much smaller yet had more detail I found. It was a life size replica of a town from back before Tokyo was the main city. There were houses and sheds, the river with a boat, and a few other things. Special lighting created different weather patterns and sound effects (rain and fire and people`s voices) added to the atmosphere also. It was a really good display on how the people used to live pre world war two.
Following the museum, we took a short walk to a nearby shrine. Katso thought it was going to be another temple, but it ended up being a shrine. It was tucked away behind massive buildings and roads, yet inside seemed peaceful and clean.
Lunch was at a nearby restaurant. We ordered soba...a local noodle dish which is one of my favourites. Lazza tried it and actually liked it, too bad it was one of our last meals in Japan, otherwise he may not have struggled with the food like he did. He is already looking at returning to Japan mid year this year...and was learning some Japanese spelling/grammar from Katso over lunch. He even said himself, he would love to come back..."I just gotta get over the food hurdle"!
After lunch, Katso took us to visit his aunt. He stayed there one night while showing us around Tokyo as he lives 300kms away. So we walked down another major road to his aunt`s place. She is 94 years old, has no significant medical issues other than bad knees, and was rushing around her home to make us feel welcome. She made us some Japanese tea which we shared while eating treats. It was great to see the family life side of Japan, especially Katso`s family as he has been sooo amazing to us.
Anyways, it was time to go our separate ways after his aunts. We said our emotional goodbyes, made semi-plans to see each other in the future...exchanged emails and said that we would share our photos with him once we returned to Melbourne!!!
For dinner, Thuge Lazza and I decided to make one last big bang. We rode the train to Ginza again and walked the very expensive streets there...Chanel, Gucci etc (like I have said previously). Lazza spotted a shop he had recognized, so we went inside to see what it was all about. An hour and a half later we walked out...each carrying a bag. Lazza and I caught some bargains and went nuts...there goes the Japan budget...lol...on the eve of our return! From here...we caught the train to one last place we hadnt been to before...Shibuya! Wow, another eye opener...we thought Ginza and Roppongi were busy...this place was even more busier! I took some fotos...it was unbelievable. Thuge and Lazza grabbed a hot chocolate and by this time it was close to 11pm, our legs were dead (about an hour ago) from the long couple of days we have had. We were tired so it was back on the train, back to Asakusa-Bashi station and then to the hostel...and here I am. Maybe the last blog from Japan, but I aim to continue blogging throughout daily life when I return...but there will be changes to the blog...so thanks for blogging along with me from Japan...from the pow to Tokyo...its been amazing!
