Happy International Lesbian Day!! đ§Ąđ€đ
[ID: Three screenshots of Zuko and Azula from Avatar: the Last Airbender.
Image one: Zuko is seen from the waist up, looking upwards. He has a tense frown in his face as he says, "What are you doing here?"
Image two: Azula is seen from the waist up, she is standing behind the railing of an airship. She has her arms spread out to gesture around her as she looks to the side and says, "You mean it's not obvious yet?"
Image three: An edited screenshot of Azula leaning over the railing. She has been edited to say, "I am about to celebrate international lesbian day." A heart in the colours of the lesbian pride flag has been added onto her armour and the background is the lesbian pride flag. - ( @transjinora ID cred.)
Image four: Zuko is seen from the waist up, looking upwards. He has a tense frown in his face as he says, "Omg happy birthday to all lesbians <33." End ID.]

idc what you say theyâre enemies to lovers
Assuming someone is Caucasian because their skin-tone is light, or their eyes arenât literal slits is racist. I have seen too many people in too many fandoms complain about Asian and Hispanic characters who âclearly are actually whiteâ just because they are light skinned.
I have met Mexicans and Asians who are paler than I am, and Iâm practically Casper the Friendly ghost! And Asians with brown hair exist, too.
Suki is not white. Azula is not White. Aang is not white. They are all Asian.
You are assuming they are white based on racist caricatures of Asians, while patting yourself on the back for being âprogressive.â Itâs not the showâs fault you think Asians are all yellow.
Quit pretending to be some great, progressive social justice warrior and admit the truth: Youâre a racist.
Zuko who spent years at sea with sailors: *stubs his toe* âOw! Fucking son of a bitch, motherfucking god-fuck fuck fuck. Holy-â

bro then donât ship him with toph
Some of you need to read this
Here we have an example of the male gaze. Aang is idolizing Katara as this perfect angelic being. Which is fine and anyone can like Ka for this reason.
I just wanted to share the difference between them. As well as share why so many fans see them very differently. Also why so many more females tend to ship Zutara.
Here we have an example of the female gaze. In this image we see Zuko waking up and seeing Katara as she is, not as who he wants her to be. The sunrise is poetic, and the shot is beautiful, but it's not focused on her body or how she looks. The image is simple but still intimate.
It gives Katara focus but not focus on her looks.
Sorry but youâre leaving out so much context for these two situations.Â
First of all, the camera pans over Aang through the lens of Meng in the exact same way in the exact same episode. You canât claim that this is the âmale gazeâ when it is quite literally used from a female perspective as well.
The animators use the same, rosy, sparkly filter when Katara meets Jet too. It's meant to represent rose-colored glasses. Later, when we see the scene in The Headband, which similarly frames Aang admiring Katara, the filter is gone which signifies that his feelings for her have matured and he loves her without idealization.
Second of all, Katara - both times - asks Aang âhow do I look?â She wants and values his opinion. She gave consent for him to tell her what he thought about her appearance.Â
Lastly, you are juxtaposing two circumstances that are vastly different. If we had an instance where Katara asked Zuko how she looked, we could make a valid comparison to how Aang views her vs. Zuko, but we donât. You canât analyze a light-hearted scene demonstrating Aangâs crush on Katara against Zuko and Katara going to find her motherâs killer, (especially since one takes place at the beginning of the series and the other at the end, and the characters in question change and grow a lot during that time). Quite obviously the latter is going to be framed more seriously. There are demonstrably dozens of other moments between Aang and Katara that you could have used to make a better comparison (like the shot of him looking at her in The Cave of Two Lovers), but you picked the scene where Aang is arguably realizing his feelings for Katara for the first time instead of choosing to focus on a moment later in the show when their relationship has progressed.
I donât care if you ship Zutara, that is totally fine. I am just sick of the bad faith arguments that are false crusading for Kataraâs happiness or the female gaze or whatever. Aang isnât some weirdo who objectifies women because he looks at his crush when she asks him to, and Zuko isnât a feminist hero because he saw the back of Kataraâs head and didnât sexualize her.Â
