Cassie Sandsmark’s Characterization as per her Creator.
Cassie is a character who I think deserves a post like this, but as I look at my research and panels I realize that it’s harder to make a post about her than I realize.
Because where as Tim was introduced in a very straight forward manner showing his origin, motivation, personality, and consistent look very quickly, and Bart was pretty much automatically given a solo right after his introduction.
For the 90s Wonder Girl she doesn’t have a straight forward origin–and it hasn’t even been consistent I’ve realized. Her motivation is just to be a hero, because she thinks it’s awesome, and what’s right to do. Which isn’t so complicated to explain. She looks up to Wonder Woman and wants to be like her.
Not to say this makes her a poor character. In a way it’s kind of refreshing from the big grief related stuff, or just to do stuff because they have the abilities to. Because Cassie actually didn’t have the abilities at first–
How she got her powers was talking directly to Zeus when she wasn’t exactly permitted. That’s the main thing to know. And her origin was later retconned to be that she was Zeus’s daughter/granddaughter depending on the continuity. Originally, that wasn’t the case though, I must say.
Her creator is one person–the writer is also the artist. So her look is consistent. A teenage girl, with boyish features, short blonde hair, and an affinity for baggy T-Shorts.
So for Cassie, she was mostly built up on her personality and unique look more than anything else. So I’ll be going through that and her interests! As well as explaining aspects of her personal life at a VEEERY quick pace.
But it’ll be worth it to go for to learn more about the best (to meeeeeee) Wonder Girl! And sorry that there wasn’t really a way to make a more detailed post. She’s a victim of circumstance of her own introduction.
I think having her origin play out pretty much after she’s introduced is a fun diversion from the norm. And hopefully you do too.
