Todd Rice is the son of Alan Scott (the Golden Age Green Lantern) and the reformed villainess Rose Canton. Scott did not know of Todd and his twin sister’s existence as Canton placed the children into closed adoptions right after birth. Rose believed her past as a super villain and lifelong struggles with mental health made her unfit to raise children and the twins would be better off with another family.

Unfortunately, the two siblings were split up and sent to different homes. Todd’s sister went to a stable and loving family, whereas Todd ended up in a dysfunctional and highly abusive household. The abuse and hardships Todd endured throughout his childhood compounded a preexisting potentiality for psychosis that Todd had inherited from his biological mother.

Although he initially believed it to be a delusion, Todd discovered that he possessed metahuman powers. Specifically, he could manifest and manipulate a dark force of energy emanating from an alternate dimension. This energy enabled him to fly and could also be used to create constructs. He used these powers to run away from home and was finally reunited with his twin sister.

Todd’s sister had also gained super powers and the two were able to surmise their true parentage. They sought out Alan Scott who was shocked (as well as overjoyed) to discover he had a son and daughter).

Both Todd and his sister were intent on following in their father’s footsteps and using their special abilities to become superheroes. Todd took on the alias of ‘Obsidian’ while his sister acme ‘Jade.’ The two then helped to form the team of legacy heroes known as Infinity Inc.

Although he was happier then he had been in a long while, Todd’s difficulties with his mental health persisted. A villainous scientist named Ian Karkull attempted to take advantage of Todd’s troubles and manipulate the youth into doing his evil bidding. Fortunately, Alan Scott was able to help Obsidian overcome Karkull’s manipulation and the villain was defeated. Thereafter, Todd was diagnosed as suffering from schizophrenia and provided effective treatments to better control his symptoms. Although it has been a struggle, Todd has continued to manage his mental health difficulties and thrive in achieving his life goals.

Obsidian would go on to serve with great distinction as a member of the Justice League and later became a member of the Justice Society. He additionally came to embrace his sexuality and came out to his friends and family as a gay man. His bravery in doing so was very inspirational for Todd’s father, Alan. Alan had lived as a closet gay man for many years and his son’s intrepid act of being true to himself inspired him to do the same.

Actors Tim Gabriel, Lance Henriksen and Dan Payne have portrayed live-action versions of the hero in the television series Stargirl and Legends of Tomorrow. The hero first appeared in the pages of All-Star Squadron #25 (1983).

Long covid has overtaken asthma as the most common chronic illness in children, causing fatigue, depression, anxiety, and more. Disability rates in all ages have skyrocketed and will continue to grow. Every covid infection can cause long-lasting or permanent immune system and BRAIN damage and we're wondering why everyone is sick all the time and has no attention span or critical thinking skills. A study found that driving a car with acute or long covid is as dangerous as driving drunk because your brain is so fucked.

It wasn't just social isolation that's making everyone nuts, it's the wreck-your-brain-disease that everyone is spreading every day like its their full-time job. If you want to fight fascism, wear a mask!

unfun fact: any flu virus can cause this damage. even regular "normal" flu. covid seems to be very efficient at this, but influenza viruses can also cause "long flu" and months or even years of issues. i can't even count the number of people i've seen saying things like "i don't understand, it's been months and i still feel wiped out. it wasn't even covid, it was just flu!" like bruh. there's no "just" flu. flu fucks you up and can kill people too, especially the very young, very old, the chronically ill, and the immunosuppressed.
