Carlos felt it was a reasonable question considering how much Uma had seemed to hate him when she first arrived. The look of surprise on Ula’s face told him otherwise. They were sisters but he should’ve known they would handle things much differently. “Okay.” He nodded in understanding, still struggling with it himself sometimes. Years of being emotionally stunted didn’t go away after one year of normalcy. “I didn’t… I didn’t say goodbye because I thought I was coming back. I thought we’d go through with the plan.” In truth, his mother’s grip had once been so strong on him that if he hadn’t been a hundred and one percent certain that she couldn’t reach him, he would have never agreed to choose good. “Thank you. I’m glad you don’t hate me,” he muttered with a soft sigh into her shoulder. Not much but Carlos had grown a couple inches thanks to the nutrients that Auradon food offered. The height difference was something he barely noticed until he hugged someone like Ula, someone from the Isle, that he remembered he had slowly been changed.

At his words, the woman understood now why he never said goodbye. Their whole plan was to steal the wand and return to the isle so the villains could get their revenge. “No, I get it little spots. You didn’t expect to like it here.” She than leaned in close to the boy who she claimed as a little brother, “Let me tell you a secret. I always knew there was good in you, Carlos. I’m so proud of you for finally realizing you didn’t need to follow in your mother’s footsteps. You’re a great boy, little spots. I really do love you dearly and I could never hate you.” She said. This side of Ula was very rare and very strange, the woman had avoided all types of emotions and feelings but around Carlos she couldn’t help but tell him how she felt. She had grown quite fond of the boy and she wanted him to know that regardless of what happened or happens in the future, he always has her. When he hugged her, she couldn’t help but laugh softly when she pulled away. “You have gotten so tall, wow. I never noticed how short you were until now.” She teased him with a smile on her face.

Somebody once told me I was annoying, and it literally broke my heart. Because it felt like I was giving too much of myself to people who didn’t want it. It felt like I was forcing myself to be in a place where I wasn’t wanted. That was the starting point, and it never stopped. My heart just keeps on breaking. Because I still feel unwanted. I still feel like I’m not enough. I still feel like I’m annoying the hell out of everyone. And it still hurts the same way it did the first time - like I’d somehow rather die.
