Kickstarter supported films
Yancey Strickler, one of the founders of Kickstarter, made the rounds at the party, slapping filmmakers on the back and entertaining questions from journalists about some of the company’s films.
Funny thing about that. Kickstarter didn’t greenlight the movies; the people did.
Kickstarter, a three-year-old Web site that hosts crowd-sourced fundraising for creative projects, has become a significant and now very visible player in independent film, in part because cinematic hopefuls are able to take their case right to the people.

Silicon Valley Aims to Disrupt Food Industry and I love it.
Neil Grimmer, a former designer at IDEO and currently the CEO of Nest Collective, pondered that question back in the early 2000s after his first daughter was born. A triathlete and food fanatic, Grimmer and his wife wanted to feed their kids healthy foods as well as begin to develop their palates. Walks down the aisles for kids’ foods, however, depressed him: strained spinach-like materials, added sugar, mystery meats shaped into smiley faces.

Some bigger shows are taking a back seat to the web. It's unfortunate for TV since these inspiring shows are better to watch than most TV shows.

The Next Ibiza: LAS VEGAS
Electronic music superstar Deadmau5 has signed on with XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club for an exclusive yearlong Las Vegas residency at the clubs beginning on January 2, 2012. "I love that Vegas is really embracing electronic music as their staple entertainment," says Deadmau5, who played several shows at the Wynn Las Vegas resort venues last year. "All of the Sinatras and Rat Packs are now DJs. I've heard Vegas is going to be the next Ibiza, but it's its own thing. Here it's all about flash and show and lights."

Misc. thoughts... – Today, 12:38 AM
I like what Adobe is doing.
I wonder about FCP8. What happened? FCP-X sucks times ten. REDCODE support might help a bit.
I like the Sony F65. It is so 4K.
I don't understand Canon. I don't like the C300. The announcement of the 4K DSLR seems to obsolete the 1DX and the C300. What was Canon thinking?
I don't understand 1080P acquisition at all. This is so not future proof. It is such a waste of time, resources and effort.
I hate 3 foot lamberts in 3D. This is why we are doing a projector. OK... plus we have a bigger color space and simultaneous Right/Left eye.
3D sequencial- ReelD (alternating left and right eye) is a disaster. 3D simultaneous (right eye and left eye at the same time) is the answer.
I don't understand why some are still doing RED in a film workflow. Come to the 20th century. Please.
RED is about budget. If you can afford an EPIC... buy one. If not, buy a Scarlet. If you can't afford a Scarlet... wait.
The world economy is headed for disaster. If you can't afford a camera... don't buy one. If you can't make money on a camera... don't buy one. Especially don't buy one that isn't upgradeable. Rent.
Don't borrow money unless you have an immediate return.
Life is short.

Surfing in Britain: earliest known footage discovered
http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2011/dec/01/surfing-britain-earliest-known-footage?CMP=twt_fd
Dating back to 1929, the footage shows Lewis Rosenberg, who was inspired to carve an 8ft (2.4-metre) board out of balsa wood after seeing film of surfers in Australia.
He and three friends travelled from their homes in London to Newquay in north Cornwall and leapt into the waves.
