Hi!! I'm a big fan of how you write Jin and I love strega a lot and I've had this wondering to myself about how Jin must have felt when Chidori was in hospital and whether she ever wanted to visit her (even though it would've been pretty difficult to do). I think the situation would've brought up a lot of bad memories for Jin and Takaya and I'm not sure how they'd feel about it so I thought I'd ask your opinion! (Btw I'm referring to in canon rather than Standing in Her Own Shadow since I can imagine that might play out differently, if at all)

So! As much as I wish Reload had done more with it (and god do I hate a lot of the extra Strega content for missing the point) we do get a scene on 9/7 for them discussing rescuing Chidori, which Takaya shoots down, saying it'd be what they expect and to wait for an opening. Jin basically treats Takaya's words as gospel, so until Takaya decides when and where, I think any feelings of wanting to see Chidori get pressed down. Jin immediately concedes the argument and even apologises for losing their cool. I still think Jin's persona, Moros, has some latent navi ability (for Strega to somehow always be on the scene first even after Chidori vanishes) but attuned to Shadows (I did a thread about it over on my twitter, maybe I should post it here) than people, so any research on where Chidori was probably came from brute-forcing a check. The stageplay has Jin drag Takaya to see Chidori after the Moonlight Bridge fight, but we don't get much context as to *why* they don't take her out then, so as much as I enjoy P3WM, I'll discount that from this argument. What seems to be the 'deciding factor' that isn't fully communicated is the fact SEES (sans Ken) are in Kyoto until the 20th and the Kirijo group are in utter chaos after Takeharu dies (covered even more in the NewMoon/FullMoon Drama CDs) which combined with the knowledge of Jin's hacking abilities means Strega probably timed it (the late 21st/early 22nd move in November) perfectly. It's still a weird scene overall though. Jin bombing a hospital is reported on the news, yet Mitsuru and Akihiko don't immediately think to check her ward before Fuuka does that night's operation. Very weird bit of Strega making noise and nobody reacting, honestly. Either way, we again see in Weird Masquerade how Jin instinctively goes to stand by Chidori's side and reassure her, so I think there's a lot of resentment at themselves and Takaya for taking around 3 months to come grab her. Jin hates the Kirijo group and what happened to them, and god knows what Kirijo are doing to Chidori, yet she's being ordered to not act. It's no wonder that Jin spirals so hard (made abundantly clear in P3WM) after Chidori dies. They break out one of the people they're closest to (if not the closest, considering their weird but sweet dynamic in P3SC) and argue, then die. If your last memory of someone is 'waiting, arguing and dying' you're going to constantly replay that in your head. So overall, Jin would've gone to see Chidori, but their deference towards Takaya means they suppressed their true feelings on the matter until it was too late. FINAL RAMBLE I PROMISE

As one of like, 10 people who've read Shadow Cry, I think the idea of Abstracting in TADC and being consumed by your own Persona is a fascinating parallel. I'm a strong believer in the idea that a forced persona user *can* eventually accept their persona, but they have to confront the aspect of themselves they ignore. Jin runs from the past despite her constant rage at it and doesn't ever stop to actually let it rest, Chidori's terrified of the future and buries her head in the sand thinking on it, ETC.

Izumi, to me, is the fear of reliance. They're terrified of being a burden on others and constantly put themselves down for living with Maki and Saya and seem embarrassed when anyone compliments them. Throughout Shadow Cry there's a lot of Izumi trying to live with a foot in two worlds and I think that indecisiveness is what does them in. Ever since Nameless manifested, Izumi has felt they've had to lean on others with how useless it is, and as soon as they discover their 'shadow-eating' power begin using it recklessly to mitigate their problems rather than solving them. It's somewhat reminiscent of characters like 'Professor Lazarus' from Doctor Who and 'Darth Nihilus' from KOTOR II, who similarly feed on people to keep themselves stable.

The need to feed eventually outpaces any sense of rationality and they end up hurting the people they care about, lashing out when Strega get involved and fully spiralling when they realise that their empowered shadow-form scares Saya to the point where their shadow completely consumes them. It's a story about addiction and pushing away help from a very interesting angle. From the public side, Izumi is the most adjusted ex-experiment but they're actually selfish and downright cruel in the way they take joy in killing, which is even more extreme than Takaya's sense of a righteous crusade. Izumi's refusal to recognise the 'true self' is what kills them, and eventually leads to Strega's own downfall, if not as extreme. Abstraction in TADC operates on a similar despair-event horizon, though it's clearly different for the people involved. Ribbit abstracts due to wanting to preserve Jax's secret above all else, Kaufmo loses his friendships and goes crazy when he accidentally manifests a fake exit like Pomni, and Jax finally realises that nothing he does matters. The three have different coping mechanisms - self-sabotage, an obsessive desire and lashing out to cover up your own problems. Sounds pretty familiar to the failings of a certain other trio of people...

Refusing to confront the truth has lead to much the same in a lot of the series. Yukari's brief attack by her Persona in the movie, Yukino's comatose state in the bad route of P2IS... just some food for thought. Anyway, back to writing.

RAMBLE TIME If Strega showed up in the Q games, IMO, all three would work well in PQ (with Kotone replacing Sakuya) because the idea of SEES and Strega coming together to face a common foe'd be really interesting and tragic in a way, with the whole memory loss at the end setting them on a collision course. ON THAT NOTE. Q2 should definitely just be Jin and Kotone from Kotone's universe from like, November just before the Ryoji reveal. Having Jin bond with the P4/P5 cast and then the P3FES cast rock up ready to kick her ass but winding up at how...different she is. IDK I just think it'd be a real interesting dynamic maybe I should write it someday.
