One of the details that always gets me is that in the garden of assemblage in re:mind, where you fight the data real org members, if you look at the doors you can sort of tell what everyone’s “rank” is even though they never officially got numbers. And Young Xehanort is senior only to Xion. He’s the org’s 12th, below Vanitas, below Repliku, below Marluxia and Larxene and Saïx - and I know the ranks never actually meant anything, despite Vexen harping about them in CoM, but damn, it’s the idea that Xehanort himself doesn’t see his own younger self as anything other than a tool by which to reach an inevitable conclusion. A total detachment from his own past, his experiences, his childhood. YX is exactly that - he’s young, his lack of experience making him, in his older self’s eyes, barely as capable as a puppet, less reliable than a traitor, only useful for what he will eventually become.
