Platonic friend! Nancy insisting on coming down for a screening of Jonathan's student film (maybe the consumer maybe something else) Even though he swears it's not that big of a deal. Them going to an "weird artsy NYU party" (Nancy's words) afterwards which then turns into them wandering around the city all night. (Jonathan would be very excited about showing her his favorite places in the city) (S2e21 of Gilmore Girls/Before Sunrise/Nick & Norah's infinite playlist/etc etc) And of course hooking up at the end of the night/crack of dawn.

#they turn the corner at like 2AM and Nancy sees the Empire State Building all lit up for the first time in her life #and it makes her emotional and Jonathan is next to her and sees the awe on her face #and he did that for her #I was gonna do the towers but that’s got its own issues lol

Anyone who says Jonathan doesn’t know Nancy at all, let alone the BEST, is being willfully obtuse. Unserious behavior.

The show both TELLS and SHOWS you this and people will still, STILL deny it. You can lead a horse to water but can't force it to drink, I guess.

And god, the antis will STILL argue that Jonathan didn’t know Nancy much. Even when she admits, at the nadir of their relationship, that he DOES know her. And counters that with the fact that she knows him.

If theres one thing teachers love to do its compare you to your older sibling they had in class before you, so I wonder what that was like for Will, what kind of things did they say about Jonathan, how did Will compare as a student. Also what if the boys had teachers who taught their mom.

#i've thought about this a lot #(as someone to whom the first thing a bunch of people used to say was 'oh you're j's sister!' because people always remembered him)#and tbh i think there's a whole range #will is a little timid but he's sweet and clearly more social than jonathan #i think even when he was younger jonathan came across very guarded #and the unsettling quality of adultness he probably projected would have bothered some of them #like. there's an offness to him that they don't like and their discomfort engenders unfair judgements #but others would have been sympathetic to that and just seen a kid so it depends #jonathan kept it all close to the chest his time was more limited than will's because of his responsibilities and the demands placed on him #(not gonna get into the probable neurodivergence of it all but surely that plays a role too jonathan does not perform 'correctly')#<——yup

Something about the idea of Jonathan wearing the same simple costume every year for the Village Halloween Parade, much to Will and Nancy’s consternation. Those two go all out every year and in the end, it’s the constancy of the guy in the weathered mask that makes him known around the neighborhood.

Pat Kiernan knowing who he is and shouting him out on the TV in like 2009. Just little things that would annoy not only him and everyone around him. Nancy is going all out and Jonathan is wearing a simple mask and Pat is all “of course locals know that’s director Jonathan Byers who has worn that mask for, I wanna say 20 years”.

LMAO at your tags on the Jonathan in Lenora post. You're so right! Someone would have been into that boy, and he would have been oblivious. Boy had a lot on his mind.

Like, Will should not have been the only Byers in Lenora getting looks. Argyle is proof that Jonathan can find a ride or die buddy, but he should have also found someone who wanted to fuck him. Because Nancy thinks it's possible and she's usually right. Not that Jonathan would take the opportunity, but it would present itself.

And like Will, but for totally different reasons, he should be oblivious or uninterested.

This might sound fucked up, but I think they should’ve had some fun with Nancy’s fear of Jonathan dating someone new in Lenora. And that’s by having her think that Argyle, and the long, sleek, black-haired person that is know as Jonathan’s best friend in El’s letters to Mike, are two completely different people. She doesn’t want to question Jonathan about it because she doesn’t want to seem offensive for questioning Jonathan’s loyalty and his ability to make friends.

Then when the reunion happens and Nancy’s done hugging Jonathan, she’s relieved that the person El mentioned was a guy, but then she’s extremely confused when he says his name is Argyle, but will never admit this to Jonathan.

Until the goo room that is.
