I think my favorite part of the video is Duffer #2 stopping his explanation to defend the goo room scene because you KNOW he’s heard the complaints about it. Just something nice to think about on a Friday morning: a sick Duffer brother miserable in failure and feeling salty about it.

Not to be terribly parasocial, but I do think it goes deeper than "We failed and I'm mad no one understands." Let's be real, he didn't have to say any of this, he could have just said "You never know, they needed space apart but they can always come back to each other one day." and leave it at that.

I truly think based off of his previous interview comments, and his now privatized Pintrest board, Matt really does like Jancy and may have been rooting for them to end up together when others in the writers room we advocating for Single Nancy™️.

His immediate response to the question sounds incredibly defensive "You don't know!" before softening and asking "they love each other, right?"

Now to fully put on my tinfoil hat, I think his defensiveness and full explanation here on what the point of the jancy storyline was this season and how that impacts their future is because people weren't "getting it" (especially those saying "oh, jancy is just bad together and they should have broken up seasons ago. It's a trauma bond." Which is the tone the interviewer had when asking the question.)

And the reason that bugged him is, of course, because 1) ego but also 2) I think the ending given to jancy was a consolation prize to those in the writers room (which maybe just Matt) who wanted them to stay together. So when the takeaway from everyone after watching the show was "oh it was always never meant to be, their relationship was due to the circumstance" (yes, I know many people were confused if they had even broken up, but he is reacting to this interviewer who is handwaving their relationship away) it's even more upsetting to him because in the end he didn't really even get his consolation prize.

Tinfoil hat theory aside, I am happy he felt so defensive here and was able to articulate the goals of their plot line this season and how deep and eternal their love is for one another.

I still won't touch another piece of media he has any involvement in, but I am thankful he stood up for them strongly at least once.

I genuinely can’t believe they didn’t have Bizzare Love Triangle (or Blue Monday) in st5. Least 80s season for sure.

Like the sparse amount of music this season will never fail to shock me. There were so many moments that would have benefited from music over score. For example, when Steve is driving around tracking the demogorgon, why was score used over music? Car radios have historically always had music playing in this show.

Idk, I think having a song change on the stereo the moment Steve decides to drive through the gate would have really heightened the moment for the better.
