Happy Davekat Week!

can I just say how fucking heartbreaking the entire scene where Terezi confronts Gamzee is? she’s quite literally “cutting” him out of her life for all the time he spent hurting and abusing her, crippling her self-esteem beyond recognition after Vriska’s death already imploded her own self doubts, until he breaks free from Aranea’s spell and tells her she’s hurting him…and she drops her weapon, shocked and ashamed and upset because as much as Gamzee hurt her, she still cares. Terezi’s not heartless, she’s full of love and vulnerabilities, and Gamzee takes full advantage of that once she’s unarmed.

however you want to gauge Gamzee’s conscious awareness is your call, but based on Karkat’s, Kanaya’s, Jake’s, and Rose’s collective reactions, I have to subscribe to the theory that the clown knew damn well what he was doing–and that was beating the ever loving shit out of Terezi. and yeah, I guess you could claim ‘self-defense,’ but she had already stopped, she was no longer a threat. moreover, if you want to suggest it’s ‘justified’ vengeance after Terezi’s own assault, he literally beats her to an inch of her life. as Jake contends, “it is hard to imagine she has not been punished enough and then some.” Gamzee keeps going and going and going.

and hell, Gamzee is fucking powerful. far, far more so than Terezi is. every panel just emphasizes how much pain he’s inflicting upon her, whether it’s smashing her face into stone

or throwing her over his shoulders in a ‘juggalo backbreaker’

or keeping her in a choke hold and dangling her over lava.

everything about his actions screams violence and malice and it’s such a goddamn hard scene to swallow. man, out of everything Homestuck’s done in its 8,000+ page run, I’ve gotta say this is by far the most intense, brutal, and heart wrenching thing it’s ever showcased.

for god’s sake, someone give this poor girl a break.

Your blog is the best. Do you have something for Cronus or Kurloz? Or more Terezi?

ACK sorry for such a slow response! Yes I can look into that--Terezi’s more likely since I honestly have little to no opinion on Kurloz and outright dislike Cronus, but I’ll try to ferret up something! I’ve got the majority of Vriska and Jade sets loaded too but I just haven’t had time/found the right texts to complete ‘em.
