Really enjoying kicking around some looser techniques and chonkier brushes. If you look closely, there's some delicious halftones in there, too. I learned and grew a whole lot in 2022, had my first serious drawing injuries (stretch!!!! please stretch!!!!!! time is a relentless and cruel mistress that will come for us all!!!!!!), and I'm looking forward to a brand new year to push myself in. ✨

This is repaint of a portrait done in 2021 to track progress, and I'm pleased to say that improvement was not simply an elaborate distortion cooked up by my brain!! 2022 was really fruitful for me as an artist--I enrolled in classes for the first time in over 10 years, and I learned so much along the way. Here's to 2023 being another year of challenging myself to grow.

When I worked on this last year in October, I was revising the lettering over and over and over again and eventually decided that 'done' was better than perfect, but every time I passed over the file, I couldn't stop thinking about how I had intended to finish it. I decided to give it a second pass during a recent netflix binge and go figure, it took all of 15 minutes to knock out the lettering the way I wanted. 🤦‍♀️
