As you can see, here I am with Anisa and Jennifer which we are advertising by holding up signs to come in and join us in our event. Some people that were invited were a bit confused exactly were in Alondra Park we were hosting our event, so we stood outside by the driveway to lead them in. Meanwhile, we welcomed people that were walking by to enter for a bit and see what we were trying to provide in our event.
Here are two pictures of our group doing outreach to the community to advertise our event. We walked around our neighborhood and knocked on doors to welcome the people to come and join us at our event. Also, we walked through El Camino College where our event was located next to and gave some people a little introduction about what the event was going to be about, the social injustices that were going to be discussed, and the free stuff they would be expecting. We posted some of our flyers around the main streets' walls and bus stops where more people would notice them. We even got creative and passed our flyers to people in their cars while they were stopped by the red light.

It’s officially! Our event will be held at 3850 W. Manhattan Beach Boulevard Lawndale, CA 90260 on April 18 from 4-6 p.m.
On Thursday from 3:30 till 4 p.m we had a meeting with Ms. Banuelos in order to check in with her and finalize our event. We were able to accomplish finalizing our survey questions that we will ask our guest at the event, break down food responsibilities, and agree on an event date and location.

Here I am researching current event articles on the regulation of GMOs. As you can see Eric Herm who is a small farmer is wanting the government to label GMO foods and let the public be aware of what is in their foods since they have a right to know. We as a society have carelessly allowed such companies to dictate us and rule over the foods that we eat. Eric Herm hasn't been getting the support that he needs from the government and this needs to change now. Stand up and support local Non- GMO growing small farmers.
Here are Veronica Vera and Jennifer Marroquin discussing ideas for April 18th's event at Alondra Park. Veronica is emailing on of her job shadow's to see if she can get more information for when she presents on the day of the event. Jennifer is helping her out as well by giing her some ideas for the event.
Anisa here is posting more information on her group's tumblr about the different events that will be happening very soon. She is also researching more facts and statistics on GMOs to post on this tumblr and give the public more ideas and a generality about her topic. She has also filled out the paper next to her with the number of hours completed on this project.
Here are the vitamins in which Dr. Lauren Vreeland mostly recommends when prescribing supplements to her patients. She has done extensive research on which type of supplements in which she should supply her patients with because she knows it would be better for their health. In her office she also has a ton of supplements that are nature based. Meaning that most of the supplements that she recommends and uses are vegan and all natural. Since my topic is on GMOs this opened my eyes to not only can our food be genetically modified, but our vitamins can be modified as well and this is something that we should be aware about as citizens of the United States.

Hi guys! I just wanted to update you all on the event. The locations of the event will be on April 18th at Alondra Park. The address for this event will be at 3850 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Lawndale, CA 90260 and the number for this place is (310) 217-8366.
During Intersession, I was fortunate enough to go with Sharon Henriquez to interview a Naturopathic doctor named Lauren Vreeland at her office in Costa Mesa. Sharon and I were very intrigued with the type of work that she does only because she is so different from the other typical doctors. The idea of using natural medicines and herbs to supply your patients with seems like the best thing. Dr. Vreeland is an amazing indiviadual and she is so inspiring as well. She seemed to care a lot about her job and what we had to say to her. Many of her patients have had success rates when going to her for consultations. One thing that surprised me during the interview is how she seemed to care a lot about the low-income communities and their health. She said she wants to be able to reach communities such as those and be able to supply them with the healthier alternatives that she has studied about, but unfortunately Naturopathic doctors aren't of much importance to the government because they haven't been able to contract with a health care plan. Overall, in interviewing Dr. Vreeland the experience was great. She sowed me another way of living and staying healthy.
Quick Update
Hello guys, It's Anisa. Just a quick update on the planning of my service learning project. I just met up with members of my team and we are now planning on hosting the event April 18th and April 25th. The event on April 18th will be from 4-6 p.m. and the event on April 25th will be from 6-8 p.m. The April 18th event will be held at Alondra Park and the following event will be held at Environmental Charter High School. Free food will be provided. There will be lots of information on different types of topics, but mainly the ones listed on this page. More information on this event will be posted soon!
Why try to fill yourself up with greasy, high level of sugar, junk food, when you can eat different favorable, healthy, portioned- sized meals?
Junk food can quickly fill you up and make you not eat for a few hours afterwards. For example, a hamburger with fries can cause you to have poor cognitive performance, and this tiredness will usually lead you to not eat for a couple of hours later since your blood pressure level drops. However, eating a plate of healthy food can fill you up for a while and be able to snack along the day about every 2-3 hours. This will help you not gain as much weight and increase your energy levels. As well with this energy you gain from eating healthy, you will be able to have some energy to exercise. That is one of the many reasons why it is very important to eat healthy foods daily!
Here are some things that your body will thank you for! Doctors recommend that we eat a healthy, balanced meal everyday. Eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and drinking lots of water. With consuming these foods it is recommended that we exercise for a least 30 minutes each day. All these things will lead to a much healthier lifestyle and a healthy lifestyle equals a healthy mind.
