Screen Relish reviews Zack Parker's Proxy starring Joe Swanberg and Kristina Klebe
Fellow guardian of the manor Jo Herriotts makes tattoo inspired jewellery and specialises in skull rings. The aim of this little shoot was to get the perfect edgy 'fist' shot that she envisioned for her homepage. These are my three favourite's, the third being an alternative option for her to use elsewhere. I'm trying to take opportunities to get out of my comfort zone as an artist so once again it was a bit of a nervous challenge for me to leave my lighting kit zipped up in its bag and rely solely on the days flat, hazy sunlight. Ambient dullness. I think they turned out quite nicely and Jo agrees. Even got me bonus in the form of a silver pistol necklace.

I've don't think I've ever had my work featured in video before. Here is Dennis F. Larsen's awesome new book trailer for THE RAVEN FALCONER CHRONICLES. It also kind of acts as my own personal book cover design trailer. All good.
Icy with a feeling of real foreboding and honest objectification; THE CANYONS is a dangerous affair of fame, misfortune and jealous envy, set in amidst the crushing weight of hazy Hollywood.

Dennis F. Larsen is my favourite client. He's a fiction writer from Canada and not only is he really darn good at telling a story but he's really good at using all the kick ass words in our language too. I started working with him on his first novel WITH CRUEL INTENT and he must have been happy enough with what I produced that he hired me for his next one too, tiled THE LIVING HUNGER. He's written three episodic chapters for THE RAVEN FALCONER CHRONICLES during 2013/14 and he's kept me along for the ride! They've been a really good outlet to allow me to get my filmic style of photo composites out into the book world. I think they all turned out rather well. There's nothing like being able to hold your own printed work in your hands on the front of a physical pop-culture product like a book, a cd or a dvd. I'm currently awaiting Dennis' latest soft cover edition, a collection of all three Raven episodes combined in one printed book. When it arrives I'll be snapping it and posting the pictures!

Embracing this blog of mine means indulging in all the little things I have an interest in or that make up my work. That in mind, I sliced up this quick design, again using my new favourite font. My chosen 'blog font'. Man, I love pizza. How inspired...

Bit of simple #upcycle lamp action using one of six ole chimney pot 'thingys' I salvaged from a skip. #altliving #alternativeliving #typography #wallart #typographic #lettering #font #newyearsresolutions #propertyguardian
Sunday was awesome. Nerve wracking as hell, but awesome. Usually i'm in the studio with nice powerful lighting that I can CONTROL. This shoot saw me running around with a solitary flash unit and some non-existent English sunlight. Good thing that THREE KINGS HIGH are up for my off the cuff requests and good thing the fairground owner was up for the photoshoot at all! Legend.
Most of the afternoon was spend in the leisure park but we went down to the sand afterwards too. You can't really tell but it was pissing it down so mad 'propaz' to the crew for walking tall. A bit of wind and wet in the face just makes for a more truly natural brooding band pose anywayz!
You can find everything that you NEED to know about the band that are about to blow (up) at www.threekingshigh.com
I'm not Albert, 'guardian of an infinite abyss' (Garden State). I'm not that cool. I am a property guardian in grim Birmingham though. According to Camelot who my license is with, I 'protect by occupation'! I live, with others that do the same, in unused commercial buildings whilst they're up for sale or whatever.
For the last two years, The Martineau Centre - specifically The Clocktower building, has been my home. Might I add that it's bloody amazing. Why it's not catching on and driving the price of private rentals down overnight I have no clue. It's not even just that it's stupendously cost effective, it's alluring to me mainly cos of the adventure element. You can occupy anything from an observatory in Kent to a stately home in Northampton to a drained swimming pool in Birmingham (nope, that's not my room but it is down the corridor). It's a new era for those that can visualise the huge empty spaces filled creatively and usually eclectically with their interesting shit.
Alternative living as a guardian is the backbone to this blog. I mean, it's the backbone to my life right now and since there doesn't seem to be a blog or muchofanything documenting this exciting-savvy-frugal lifestyle, I'd like to share some of mine. Most of the 'possibilities' that make up this blog are effected somehow, or housed by this new era mansion. I work from home here, so any of my professional photography and design work is edited at the desk you can see in the picture above. My gluten-free cooking is done in the communal kitchen and we've been known to screen films projected onto vast walls in various friends spaces. Some of the furniture I've attempted to improve has been salvaged from guardian buildings and used to fill our NY loft-esque apartment.
The photos in this post make the place look overly creepy. I've edited them purposefully for effect because a tour of the place is like a tour of The Overlook Hotel (The Shining). A large portion of our no-mans-land is abandoned. It's a different story when you get to the areas that are lived-in. More to come…
