Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind theory: BYLER

Pls read this yall I think I really did something here.

Before you read my theory keep in mind the “eternal sunshine of a spotless mind” is one of the movies the Duffer brothers told us to watch before season 5 AND Noah and Finn started crying 20 minutes into reading the final script, just them first. Which ties into my theory of them seeing the past memories of Mike and Will.

X marks the spot.

We’ve seen this with Bob&Mike in season2, Max with Holly & The Map, finding the X AWAY FROM VENCA mind you. Will is ditching Mike like Max ditched Kate bush, expect Venca is making Will ditch him bc Venca knows Mike is Will’s music per say. Also goes into what Max was telling Holly and Lucas himself that she didn’t actually need music she needed Lucas, also the thing with touching her hand and why Mike can’t touch Will’s hand in many parts of the show

Mike is the heart for Will, (again bringing up the X over Will’s heart showing the wormhole) In order to save Will he has to get to Will’s heart. They are both their each others everything’s, the whole show revolves around them idc argue with the wall.

This is the plot of the movie if you’re unfamiliar.

So,

Either Mike is going to go through the labyrinth of memories in order to save Will Like how in the movie “eternal sunshine of the spotless mind” The main character Joel has to go through with losing memories with his gf and seeing all their past, seeing when they were most happy and when they were most sad all the ups and downs. And since we haven’t got Mike’s pov yet I think that’s when we’re going to see it. Is Mike walking through each of his memories seeing himself with Will and that also ties into to how they will show the GA that Mike has always has feelings for Will. Bc instead of a flashback I think it will be this. Mike has to go through the memories like Max went through her own and Henry’s to find herself a way out, MIKE WILL HAVE TO DO THE SAME TO SAVE WILL AND HIMSELF.

Also the duffer brothers orginal wanted to call stranger things “MONTAUK” which is literally from the “ESOTSM” The duffers pulled so much from this movie it’s insane. Also celmentine tells Joel to meet him in Montauk. Also in the movie so they don’t forget they make a tape of their lives BEFORE THEY ERASED THIER MEMORIES so they can possibly remember what thier life was before. This also makes sense with Will’s tape that has a X over it and so does the broadcast the stranger writes posted (I CANT FIND THE PIC WITH X ON THE TAPE BUT I KNOW WE HAVE SEE IT BEFORE)

Also another theory is in the end Venca does erases wills mind completely Of Mike and that’s what the tape is for to try to make him remember. Callback to the movie again. Also in the promo pic is with the word “bar” over it and we know we have seen leaks of them filming at a bar soooo take that with what you will.

I found this detail very interesting:

In episode 6, when Eleven is in the void, I noticed the bed's frame/headboard where Will is lying has two wheels. He was also given a wheel at the beginning of the season.

In the bedroom in ep 7 the headboard has the painting of a ship above it, the background of the painting looks blue.

Steering. Wheel. Mike Wheeler. His POV. His self-acceptance and letting Will know he feels the same for him. Mike Wheeler is going to steer the wheel. Last piece of the puzzle. Also two wheels: both Mike and Will in charge of the ship. The ship is going to sail. Byler endgame 💙💛

Jumping off my st x esotsm parallel here. If Will’s memories of his love for Mike have been altered/erased, that sets up Mike’s POV to be introduced in a massive way. Their relationship and what it means is going to be told from Mike’s perspective as he tries to get Will back.

Joel voices how he wishes he’d done a lot of things. Mike tells us this season that he doesn’t want to have anymore regrets. If it’s anything like this scene, we could literally hear Mike’s side of the story. Mike’s feelings, explained by Mike. !!!!!

So Mike is key to getting to Will’s heart. His weapon is the power of Love which is going to help save Will. Mike is Will’s heart and Will is Mike’s heart.

The fact the GA makes fun of us for analysing the show, telling us we are making things up, using ableist language, completely dismissing our theories and analyses for years and yet we are the ones that are analysing, re-watching episodes and seasons multiple times, connecting the dots, noticing the hints in the official social media accounts (that have been there for a long time), people with folders full of analyses of everything ranging from scenes, acting choices, lighting, soundtracks, parallels, analyising the released scripts, the merch, making 2 hour videos or longer of Will and Mike's arcs. We have Bylers with film degrees. People who have studied film for years and know how it works.

We have poured our hearts into this beautiful story. Byler is not just a ship. The complexity of their story, their bond, the message the show will send because their love will save the world? That is beautiful beyond words. This will empower queer people all across the world when we are living in a political climate when people are still trying to take our rights away from us, when we get hate crimed for being our true selves. Byler being endgame will save people, it will give them courage, the motivation to embrace themselves.

Our analyses are not based on just one scene in the show. No. They have been built from the very core of the show itself, the show's DNA and from the very first interaction we got between Will and Mike in episode one of the first season when they were by themselves.

Our analyses and theories of 10 years are not based on just a few details. But so many, that even some people sometimes forget details we already knew because of the amount of Byler proof we have. Like the amount of proof spans the whole 5 seasons. THE WHOLE 5 SEASONS. Every episode of Stanger Things has Byler proof in it. The plot, the lore, the soundtracks, ALL OF IT.

And even going into the promo for season 5 and after every volume, we got even more proof. On the Stranger Things official social media accounts, the interviews, the posters, the WSQK The Squawk radio station. It is all there.

We have been actively engaging with the show, analysing the show and noticing the symbolisms that have been there from season 1. The Duffers have been clear that the show is meant to be analyzed, that nothing is a coincidence in the show.

It is ironic that they say we have no media literacy when what they are doing: completely dismissing any analysis of the show because it makes them uncomfortable, taking everything in the show at face value, not taking us seriously is the opposite of what media literacy means. And what we are doing: analysing the show, scenes, and all the elements in them is what having media literacy means.

They have been homophobic, mocked and bullied us for years because of our analyses, displaying behaviour Stranger Things as a show and its message has a firm stance against. They have being homophobic towards Will too, something that continues to happen even now during season 5, with many dismissing him as a character, dismissing his suffering and making fun of it.

We are getting Byler endgame in 3 hours. The finale will recontextualize past seasons and go back to the very beginning, when it all started and how all has been leading to Byler endgame because it has been set up to be and that Mike and Will's relationship, their love, their self-acceptance journeys, their bond is interlinked with everything that has been happening in Hawkins.

Bylers is endgame. We are going to be celebrating very soon. Byler and Stranger Things will make history and be so important for queer representation going forward. We are almost there.

I just realized why mileven is off this season, it's bc they're trapped in their relationship. Max says they're three doors. 1st door (give up) 2nd door (accept your fate) 3rd door (escape). They are currently in the 2nd door. El is currently with Kali choosing door 1 (give up). She will realize there is a better way and choose door 3(escape). I believe she is going to fake out her death and runaway to the waterfalls with Kali. It’s going to be sad bc our characters will think she died, but they’ll be safe from the government which is ultimately what she wants. And for Mike he didn't realize he could escape the door. Bc in mike's eyes there is no other option but eleven bc of society and Will's lies (painting). After Will came out Mike now has all the pieces and he can escape through the 3rd door. The plot twist is mike reciprocating his feelings. His arc is about being "Mike the brave" and he will be brave.

Before ST5 drops I just want to say:

I'm so happy that I got to go on this journey with you other bylers. The Byler community is so strong and smart. It's inspiring. I don't feel delusional, I have no doubt. You guys have made me so happy and proud to be a fan of byler.

There's gonna be people in the GA who will say they knew it all along and switch up once byler becomes canon, but you guys are really the ones who have been theorizing and truly knowing all along. WE knew byler was gonna be canon. We stood together for years. I'm so grateful to be part of such a strong community. We've fought together for a long time. We fought against thousands upon thousands of homophobes together. I'm so glad to fight alongside you guys.

So, yeah. I guess I just want to say thank you. For everything. Thank you bylers!! Thank you for making me feel validated!!! Thank you for analyzing every scene to the point of zero doubt!!! Our battle against the byler-antis isn't over, and probably won't be over for a long time. Especially after byler becomes canon. Still, I want it to be known that I cherish you all and our years of sticking together.
