That's a wrap!
Sometimes a classic dark burst is jut right. But most of the time I like these lighter colors. I like the expanse color pallet it offers, the subtlety and the way it tricks your eye into wondering if your seeing color or just shadow. But I will tell you, the lighter the color the more challenging it can be. This one is highlighting every single little scratch I missed in finish sanding like it's the belle of the ball. Should get it all wrapped up today though and be able to send it out for clear coats. Can't wait to get this one strung up. Pre-stain. I gotta tell you all, when doing hand rubbed again, a clear pre-stain is crucial. I see so many folks skip this step and the results are very obvious. A hand rubbed stain should have a certain level of characteristic inconsistency which comes from variable absorption rates in different areas of the grain. But when a pre-stain is skipped you end up with blotchy. Blotchy isn't good, it looks amateurish and thrown together. I've been finding these ball bearings on my floor the last two weeks and it's making me nervous. I have no idea what they are from. They are appearing in an area where I have my router table, belt sander, chop saw and spindle sander. Everything seems to be operating smoothly. But it's not exactly something you want to see. I know it's a long shot but anybody have any educated guesses?

It's a nice try Gibson. Was a cool way of making an adjustable saddle. Pretty ingenious. But unfortunately it really undermines the saddle/top contact and kills the tone potential of the instrument.
