Rabbl is a “choose your own adventure” kind of crowd sourcing application for bands and music fans!

I recently came across the opportunity to learn more about a new crowd sourcing website called Rabbl.  Rabbl is a lot like Kickstarter, however the genius difference is that it connects fans, bands, and venues to specific potential tour dates.  In other words fans aren’t just donating lump sums of money all willy nilly to bands who want to tour, fans actually have a voice in the whole situation and can ask or vote for the band to play for them in their own city.  On the flip, bands get to feel the love by actually having fans fill their shows while touring through new places.  The whole thing works by fans asking for a band to play at a specific place and then voting by purchasing advanced tickets through the Rabbl website.  If the “Rabbl” meets a certain predetermined amount of votes or tickets sold, then the fans win and the band plays!  If it all falls through then everyone gets his or her money back. No biggie.  Rabbl is just a seedling project right now, but it has all kinds of potential to allow creative things such as new band discovery, booking at “alternative” venues, and smarter touring by local level bands.

What is the "Pay Only For What You Need" Price Model at Studio 301

The "Pay Only For What You Need" price model we've adopted at Studio 301 has a really long name, but the concept is actually pretty simple.  Let's compare it to something common like Amazon's Cloud Computing services.

The two main ideas behind cloud computing are to allow companies to scale their computer needs and also to share high end computer resources amongst many companies at once.  The advantages of this are that companies are only paying for the exact amount of time that they use the cloud computers and the companies also get to use high end computers without having to maintain, replace, or repair those computers.  It all boils down to saving money in the long term scheme of things without sacrificing quality!

So, you as a musician are a lot like our "companies" in the cloud computing example above and we, as Studio 301 are a lot like Amazon.  You want quality recordings, but you don't always want to pay for a dedicated chunk of studio time all at once, you just want to pay for it only when you need it!  You've also probably noticed the burden of maintaining, repairing, and replacing components of home recording studios and home DAW's (Digital Audio Workstations).  This is where Studio 301 want's to help. 

The way Studio 301 works is by breaking down our services into the smallest functions possible.  Say, you just want to track some drums or vocal and you'll handle the rest at home on your own. Cool!  We give you the option to do that at an affordable price.  Say, you want to track a whole song and have us mix it and allow you a call back session. Cool! We give you that option too at another affordable price.  Same goes with our video, photography, and writing services.

Still wondering how and why the Studio 301 model can actually be affordable?  Well, the answer is that by piecemeal-ing our services, many musicians will be using our studio for short periods of time versus only a few musicians for long periods of time and the more musicians we have taking advantage of our individual services, the lower we can drop the price point for each of our services.  It's similar to how the shared computer resources are used in cloud computing.  We maintain the studio, recording gear, and DAW's and in return we are supported by our large customer base that only uses what they need when they need it!
