I asked Greek mythology lovers & Hellenic polytheists what they actually want from mythology-inspired jewelry… and you definitely have opinions 👀
I’m currently researching what people actually want to see represented in contemporary jewelry inspired by Greek mythology and Hellenic symbolism.
And after reading through the responses to my survey, one thing keeps coming up:
Symbolism with actual meaning.
A few responses that really stood out to me:
“Accurate ancient symbolism. I feel like a lot of mythology inspired jewelry just uses modern ideology which doesnt align with the way ancient people actually viewed the gods. An example is Hecate as "the mother of witches", like thats not a thing.”
“I would like for the brand to be respectful of the Hellenic Polytheist religion. To not see it as just myths and stories but a living religion…”
“Subtle symbols on the jewellery itself from the myth or of the god that inspired it, like a little red pomegranate fruit on a bracelet to represent Persephone.”
“Jewelry inspired by lesser known/not as talked about gods or personifications, such as Momus, Oizys, Hypnos, Thanatos, Phobos, Deimos, Enyo, Hestia…”
What I find particularly interesting is how often the same ideas come back: accurate symbolism, respect for Hellenic Polytheism, subtle references rather than obvious stereotypes, and representation beyond the most famous gods.
This is exactly why I wanted to ask the community before finalizing the first APHRES collection rather than assuming I already knew what people wanted.
