falling asleep to rain is great, but waking up to rain, *chefs kiss* fantastic
Pretty sure that generation has been dead for awhile but ok, pretend one thing has something to do with another
The end of Jim Crow laws was in the 1950â˛s. The first black student to attend a formerly all white school was Ruby Bridges in 1960.Â
Here she is being walked to school under the protection of Federal Marshals because angry white people were ready to harm or kill her.Â
Here she is in 2010, eight years ago.Â
The generation that enforced segregation is not dead, fucko. They were our fuckin grandparents, and it was not that goddamn long ago.Â
Google is free.Â
Grandparents?!
Iâm 31.
My MOM was born the year before school segregation ended.
She was NINE when MLK was shot.
She remembers race riots in her school over school segregation ending in our home state.
My MOTHER lived through this. Sheâs 61 years oldâwhich means while her own health is shot, people from her generation will be around for another twenty to thirty years.
1956. This is not colorized. IT WAS SHOT IN COLOR. Look at thatâsegregation was still ongoing in the age of neon lights.
Same exhibit. 1956. Banana splits, poodle skirts, and the ability to get âcoloredâ drinking water only from the white folksâ backwash. You can see the pipe connecting the white tank to the colored fountain behind the little girl in the light pink dress.
Less than ten years later. Thatâs Martin Luther King, Jr. in the middle. Have you ever seen him in a color photograph before? There are many, but for some reason ⌠maybe because black-and-white makes things look old ⌠nobody ever uses them.
Look at the bank logo in the back. Colored squares like that were a thing in the mid-to-late 1960s. The slicked-down hair on the Black girl in front says weâre not yet to the mid-1970s, and since these signs all say âHonor Kingâ itâs quite likely this is 1969-1970. You know what else was happening in 1969? Not Woodstock, not the moon landing, although both of those things happened. No, something we think of as being much more recent.
THE INTERNET STARTED.
1969 was the launch of ARPANET, which would later become the Internet. BLACK PEOPLE WERE STILL MARCHING FOR BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS WHEN THE INTERNET WAS STARTED.
This picture was taken sometime between 1956 and 1958. I donât have a precise date on it, but the sleeveless sundress says later 1950s, the hair on Orange Plai says this was after Elvis, and the stars on the flag say thatâs not a modern 50-star flag, which was first used in 1959. (We had a single year, 1958, with 49 stars.)
Ah yes. It was so long ago. Letâs get some more perspective:
Donald Trump was eight years old when school segregation was declared illegal in 1954. He was nineteen when the police beat and shot at peaceful Black protest marchers in Selma, Alabama and twenty-two when MLK was assassinated by the FBI for trying to encourage desegregation.
Hillary Clinton was seven when school segregation was declared, eleven when it went into effect, and eighteen when Selma happened.
Bernie Sanders was thirteen when the integration ruling occurred, 19 when Ruby Bridges started going to a formerly all-white school, and twenty-four when Selma happened. Joe Biden is only a year younger than Bernie.
Elizabeth Warren was eleven when Ruby started her new school, fifteen when Selma happened, eighteen when MLK was shot.
You will notice that all of these people are running for President, or were rumored to be running for President, this year. Theyâre not just alive, theyâre thriving. And they were all alive for desegregationâin fact Trump, Clinton, and Sanders were all old enough to either endorse or oppose what happened at Selma.
But letâs keep looking, because theyâre probably outliers, right?
Hm. Three of MLKâs children are still alive. Theyâre between 56 and 62 years old. (His elder daughter died of unknown causes; her family suspects an undiagnosed heart condition.) In fact one of his siblings is still alive, and she was born before him! Sheâs 96.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg? Yeah, she was 21 when school integration was made the law of the land. And sheâs still serving on the Supreme Court.
But tell me again how long ago it was.
Iâm sure the people from those generations are all dead, after all.
i want to be untouchably beautiful but i also donât want to care about how i look. i want to be the top of my class but i also just want to do as best as i can without driving myself to the edge. i want to be floating and ethereal but i want to be solid, dangerous. a mystery thatâs open to everybody. a romantic that never falls in love. the bird and the cat both.

PSA: stop putting time limits on your goals. Itâs not too late. Ur not too old. You didnât miss your chance. Ur exactly where ur meant to be. You still have time. You still can do it! So go buddy. Iâm rooting for yaaa!!!
I used to do this. Iâd think âIâm too old to do that, to start thisâ.
I wanted to apply to PhD programs, but I hesitated - to the point of almost missing the deadline. Not only did I feel too old to go back to school (after years away), but I would be at least 35 by the time I graduated and started my first real career. It felt like a pipe dream.
I voiced these concerns to my mentor. He paused, looked over at me and said âYouâre going to turn 35 no matter what you do. So do you want to be 35 with your dream job, or without it?â.
Really put things into perspective for me.
At some point in your life, you will probably have a bad friend.
At some point in your life, you will probably BE a bad friend.
A bad friend doesnât necessarily mean an abusive friend. It could just be someone who is incapable of being supportive when you need them to be. Or someone who you donât really have chemistry with, but still feel an obligation to be friends with. It could be someone who expected too much of you. It could even be because of bad communication. It can be unintentional. It can just be a brief rough patch. It can sometimes be irreparable. It is not the end of the world, even if it feels like it in the moment. Itâll be okay. Just breathe, acknowledge what went wrong, and if it was your fault, accept the responsibility.
This is not only okay to reblog, itâs encouraged! Many of us have made mistakes, and we to need to acknowledge and reflect on them. Otherwise, we wonât ever become our best selves.
R E B L O GÂ Â T H EÂ Â P I G E O N .
Where was this pigeon when I needed to pass stats?
I cannot stress this enough- Build a routine. Build Habits. Wake up every day and get used to being productive, one day at a time. Do this for long enough and eventually youâll be at your goal without even realising it.Â
why isnât anyone allowed to be wrong anymore? itâs okay to be wrong. no one should be terrified of every tiny little mistake they might make. being wrong, and realizing you were wrong, is how you learn and grow and change.
sheâs gonna pass her classes and sheâs gonna graduate

Can i get a step by step on how to do this?
So far for me itâs been something like:
1. Become aware of how and when you tearing yourself down.
2. Now that you can catch yourself doing it. Offer counters to the negative self talk. A really useful thing I read was to talk to yourself almost the way you would child. Gentle and patient. Even when they fuck up.
3. Take time to celebrate your small accomplishments. Youâve been attacking yourself for every little mistake. Apply that same fervor to the positive things in your life. Did the dishes even though you didnât want to? Fuck yeah! Got up and took shower? YES!!! You are taking positive steps to feeling better. Celebrate it.
4. Make lists of things youâre good at/ like about yourself. The first time I did this the only two things in my list weâre that I liked my hair and I had good friends. It was start.
5. Donât beat yourself up if you screw up steps 1-4. Itâs counter productive. When I catch myself calling my self stupid for some mistake or other my response now is,âWe donât talk to ourselves like that anymore. Whatâs something constructive that could actually help solve the problem.â
Most of the time that seems to work. Not always. But more and more Everytime.
I hope any of that made sense.
oh my goodness there are instructions!!
Omg I was doing this without knowing
GOOD AFTERNOON, TROOPERS! 2018 is rolling right away, yet natheless (Iâm still trying out 16th century words here, 2019 who?), most of us are still holding out till January 1st to start making a resolution list. YEYAH, Andrew, I think we can do without you coming in with three separate PPTs defending your wiped-out ass. I get it though, 2018 has been nothing short of a show (the greatest or not, up to you); weâve read our smut and sent our sexts, yet are now exhausted and vexed, and definitely canât be bothered to check our ancient stockings for air, so thank u, next.
But end-of-the-year-reflection is way more than proclaiming you are going to floss next year, damnit. Neither have I gathered you here to collectively moan about how screwed (humor intended) up 2018 was or how itâs been âpractically the year of breakups, give toilet paper, thankâ (hoe, same, all of my ships sunk this year), OR to film conspiracy videos about where the fuck 2018 disappeared to. Surprise, you ainât no grizzly bear having a lilâ nap for five months, so siestaâs over, kids, Wake. UP. Â
Weâre here, instead, to squeeze the lemons out of 2018 so that we can warm up for 2019 (FIFA upcoming or not, weâre aiming for the cup anyway). I now call upon all you warriors to polish our armor, sharpen our kantanas (tell me you get the reference), rebuild our battleships, and blueprint our ambush strategy because next year is about to be attacked from all sides. Â
And if I havenât scared you off with my very violent vocab, Vivian, grab all your weaponry, kiss the doubts and fears goodbye, maybe give your haters the finger (oh fuck it, BOTH fingers), and swagger right into base camp. Fellow conquerors, the time has come. + play this incredible music in the background and sally forth into whatâs about to be the best year of your life.
Day One: Nobody loses here, not even Sierra Burgess. Â
Step 1) List your 10 biggest wins this year. And if you canât think of ten (hey, the year wasnât the scoop for everybody), list your 10 biggest losses. You canât run out of those, thereâll always be something to work on. Step 2) Look into them. Ask yourself, âWhat went wrong?â Or maybe âWhy was this a win?â Hmm, is this boring? Maybe. Is watching the sneezing baby panda more interesting? Perhaps. Yet, are your dreams and the person you wanna become worth this pain? Absolutely. You choose.Â
Day Two: Be your own performer. Be your own audience.
Day two, and today, I want you to recall the times you set goals for yourself. And clapped for yourself. Reminder, goals earned to impress/please others leads to ZERO self-growth. If you got that Masterâs degree for mumsy or that sexy bod just so the chicks will like you, it isnât a win. âa summary, slayed goals that make you feel happy for like 2 mins, ainât real goals. An example, I remember I hit an insane 96% last year, my highest, came second in my year YET got all hype for five seconds before I went back to being depressed and reading hp memes. Thatâs when I realised this entire âget good gradesâ wasnât working its supposed magic for me at all. Now I cast my own incantations, read memes and stay hapi.Â
Day Three: Lesson learned, wisdom earned.
List your three most important awakenings this year. What youâve learned from what you did, from what you didnât do, and from what someone else did. (I recommend opening your journal and jotting the messages every event taught you. PS, if you donât journal, hop into the train quick, âcause youâre missing out on real education, pal.)
Day Four: Dear Me,
One thing the public needs to do next yearâ getting in touch with ourselves. Regardless of whether constant phone addiction or ew-whatâs-meditation is to blame, we all NEED to be self-aware and begin an affair with ourselves and our deepest passions before we go out and date Henry or obsess over Prick (nobody asked for this, Niyanka sounded better, YâALL NEVER LISTEN). A lot of us donât know ourselves at all! I know Iâm getting all whiny, so go compose an open love letter to yourself already. Put pen to paper, and let the thoughts flow. Worries, fears, hopes, dreams, write âem all down. Get to know you. Get to love you.
Prick still sounds terrible though. Just saying. Iâm a mess, am I drunk? Ok, bye, but we stan a happy couple anyway.
. Day Five (FINALE): After All This Time? Always.Â
Reflection done, visualizationâs up. Your turn to brew up magic for 2019.Â
Step one: Pull Future You Closer in the Backpage of Your Diary (Halsey, stop quaking). Â
Weâre late, itâs the last day, 2019 is already knocking, Iâm still in my pajamas, my toast is burnt, where IS my toothbrush, GET OUT OF THE BATHROOM BECCA, I NEED TO PEE. Â
OKAY FOLKS, this is the weighty, major step towards a happy new year. Weâve all forgotten how to dream. If weâre gonna make our resolutions according to what Bella did this year, or what Aunt Molly said I sucked at; the diary will run outta pages and we wonât be done listing till the end of next year.Â
Look, learn to fireproof yourself against superficiality. Most people donât know what they want from life themselves, so forget following along, and NO, for the last time, flossing isnât a real goal, Nandini. Stop.Â
Use that olâ letter up there you composed for reference to the authentic you in case bullshit starts filtering in and just allow dreams to consume you instead. To get started, scribble down future you in the following areas -Â
Health and Fitness Â
Spirituality (literally anything that makes you calm, donât get confused)
School (or work, if you makinâ them bucks)Â
Creative Projects (you may wanna learn to do the tango or become a master gardener, for all I know)Â
Relationships (All the single ladies! All the single men! All the single folks! (yes, we inclusive here))Â Â
Step 2: Dreamt Your Painting? Now Paint Your Dream.Â
We all better know Van Gogh as the dude who cut off his ear, but those words are everything too. Now that you know your vision for yourself for next year, jot down the goals which align with the said perspective. You wanna be more flexible? Try doing the splits this year! Want to be more focused? Try cutting off your phone usage, meditating, setting frequent reminders, becoming a monk. You know what you gotta do, just make sure the goal is yours and go for it. This year belongs to you.Â
Now that weâre done flipping our eggs, itâs time to bring this post to action. Itâs time to rise up and take responsibility.Â
If you read this, I dare you to take on this challenge. Look, my dearest (Iâm being absurdly nice, bitches, pay attention), we canât forever keep falling. We canât forever keep putting off our goals and dreams, letting bullshit and misunderstanding folks occupy our precious time. Weâll have to get up someday, anyway.Â
And I dare you, urge you, plead you (strike that, PUSH you, more like) to make that âsomedayâ today. Make that marvellous year where you win and get closer to your dreams THIS year. I invite you to make 2019 yours, solely yours, and hope that 365 days from now, youâll look back at the messes you created and the person you became with immense pride and teary joy.Â
Iâm asking you to spend the last 5 days of 2018 reviewing, organising, planning and getting your life back in track. Iâm taking on the challenge myself; the next 5 days youâll see me posting my entries here. I dare my folks (shamelessly annoying my mutuals & favorites here, I love yâall to death btw) - @athenastudying, @studyblr, @ahsteria, @whoknowsstudies, @tonystarkstudies, @studyingmeow, @eintsein, @thepowerwithin, @redvelvetstu-dies, @artemistudying, @nerdyign, @moonshinestudies, @emmastudies, @studylustre, @londonotes, @i-actually-study-a-lot, @alari - to take this on too.Â
And if youâre with me, come along. Weâll be playing our favorite music, pushing and breaking limits, dreaming big, and spreading love as always. Also, free toothpaste and dental floss care packages for everyone, I gotchu.Â
What To Do:Â
Reflect back on 2018 - squeeze all the enlightenment out of it.Â
Visualize the best out of 2019, putting all your aspirations out into the universe.Â
After following these tips, post all your revelations here, because we MUST cheer you on (and whatâs a life that isnât on the internet, lmao).Â
And finally, donât you forget to tag your posts with #squeeze2018! Â
And that was all. Weâll meet again in 2019, and perhaps that time, weâll have crazier stories to share and wonât be crying over breakups but rejoicing wedding vlogs instead. May we find people to love, faith to believe in, and a year worth reminiscing upon. May we come back with stronger wills, bolder decisions, and may we break again and again only to rebuild better. 2019 will be incredible. Iâll see you soon, Iâm off to work and make my prediction come true.Â
The End Card.Â
Thanks for dropping by! It was a pleasure to have you around. If you wish to stick for a bit, Iâd suggest picking one of the related posts mentioned above.
If you wanna check out my blog, hereâs a little something about me (y'all know I love the attention). What do I write about? Three arenas I dominate, Work, Lifestyle and Life, they are, my mate! Take your pick!
I post new blog posts bi-weekly, and my wins, & journal entries throughout the week, so follow me if youâre into conquering life, leaving a legacy and being the baddest badass you can possibly be. Iâll be your side pal, cheering you along.â¨
And that was it, itâs a wrap! Martha, shut the cams, Henry, pause the audio, and Nandita, I know youâre pretending to be deaf, but Momâs yelling something about doing the dishes. Better skip along.
And you, fellow conqueror? Keep slaying life, doing the work and making it count. I hope youâre well, stay strong and go conquer life. â§
Iâm sending you so much love, see you soon.
â Nandini đ (´・⢠ᾠâ˘ď˝Ą`) âĄ
Iâm proud of you.
life is so hard but here you are; living, fighting, doing your best. âim not livingâ, yes you are. maybe life itâs not really good right now, but youâre here and youâre living.
thatâs such an important thing. do not let anyone take it away from you. never. i believe in you. keep going.
