Despite being forced to stay inside my apartment, I luckily got my book mail before this mess started and Iām enjoying my currently readings all day long. I started with If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio, I wanted to take a break from classics and complex readings with a fast paced and intriguing mystery. I like underline and write down after sentences and words Iāve found fascinating and full of poetry for my own writing exercise.
thinking about the quote ālife is short. art is longā and how tragic it is that art lasts forever, but we donāt; how there will always be more books unread than read, more music unheard than heard, more paintings unseen than seen, and when i die, there will be countless more that i will never even have the opportunity to love and cry over and feel, because it certainly seems that there is more worth feeling in the world than time to feel it.
āRigid, the skeleton of habit alone upholds the human frame.ā

ig:Ā herdrafts There is nothing more gratifying for a methodical person when everything goes according to plan from the beginning of the day until the sun set. Iām talking about a long day of various and indispensable readings, writing their reviews which is my main purpose when I enjoy a book, and continue my languages study on my own. It isnāt something of great relevance but usually all these tasks canāt be carried out in a single day. Iām proud of my little efforts !

I enroll in my Fall classes later today! Iām taking cell biology and introduction to personalities, which personally sound 1000x more interesting than physics. And as an extra bonus, I get to keep my amazing Latin professor for another semester!

When you get the advice to āread moreā to get better at writing, itās not very concise and really sounds unhelpful after the third time youāve heard it. So here, this is what youāre getting out of it (besides grammar or whatever):
You observe the way a story is organized and how it achieves its flow
You become familiar with tropes and archetypes
Story structure becomes an easy to recall memory, and every novel youāve ever read becomes a reference book
You develop how you write stylistically, the things you hate and the things you try to emulate
You gain the skills to critique books in a smart manner, and therefore can recognize flaws in your own works that you remember bashing a novel for
This is such a great list! I def want to emphasize that learning how to emulate style is not the same as copying. You have your own way of writing, and it will eventually form the more you practice. You will inevitably pick up small things from every author you read, and thatās okay. Itās all those little things put together that starts to build your own unique voice. Also, pacing. The more youāve read, the more easily you can recognize when a story is moving well, no matter how much āactionā is or isnāt in it. Once you know how that āfeelsā, you can start pulling it off in your own writing more naturally.

Alternate universe where I literally just to go to school forever (for free) so I can just learn about art and literature and history and languages for 100 years. No job skills. No credit requirements. No student loans. Just learning.
Reading about love, pretending, artificial intelligence. I love these warm summer mornings, sitting on the bed with the balcony door open and a fresh pot of coffee āļø
i just bought this copy of little women and found this inside. i love it when books have inscriptions, it makes them feel that little bit more personalĀ
me and a friend spent the morning in the garden of our favourite second-hand bookshop. it started to rain so we were huddled under the awning, feeling content surrounded by hot coffee and new reads.
