˚˖𓍢ִ໋howdy everyone, nobody ask but today let's talk which study method is the best ꩜。ּ
Well... lately I've been thinking about how many times I've changed the way I study and how many study methods I've tried, so I thought... why not give u my honest opinion about all of them? Maybe this can help someone who's still trying to find the best method for themselves, sooo let's do this.
To be honest, when I was in high school I didn't really have a study method. I would literally look over the topics like 5 minutes before the exam and somehow get good grades. So when I started college, I had absolutely no idea how to study properly. That's why I started trying every study method I could find until I discovered what actually works for me.
౨ৎ Pomodoro: Personally, I think this is a really good method if you're just starting or if you're trying to manage your time better. The only problem is... once the break starts, sometimes it's sooo easy to get distracted and completely lose your study flow.
For me, this works much better when I'm doing assignments than when I'm actually studying for an exam. I feel like I lose all my concentration after every break lol.
(If u want to try it, I would recommend starting with something like 15/5 or 25/5. I personally used 50/10.)
౨ৎ Flashcards: I think I'm officially a flashcard hater, I REALLY tried to like them... but nope. Don't get me wrong, I think they're a really good method, they just don't work for me. I think they're amazing if u need to memorize definitions, drugs, or short concepts.
I would especially recommend them for pharmacology, legal medicine, forensic medicine, and sometimes anatomy or pathophysiology.
౨ৎ Quizzes / Fake Exams: This is probably one of my favorite study methods. Making your own quizzes (or answering practice questions) helps u understand the topic instead of just memorizing it. At least for me, it also helps me remember concepts for a much longer time because I actually understand why they're correct.
౨ৎ Writing Everything Down: I don't even know if this counts as a study method lol, but it literally saved me during biochemistry. Writing everything helps me memorize the topic really well... but at the same time it can feel like a huge waste of time, especially if the exam is really close. So... I have a love-hate relationship with this one.
౨ৎ Podcasts: Okay... THIS is my favorite study method that I discovered this semester. I talked about it in another post before, but I seriously love it.
The best part is that u don't waste extra time because u can listen while doing something else. I usually listen to my recordings while I'm at the gym, cleaning my room, or even while getting ready. It honestly helped me remember so much more than I expected.
౨ৎ Saying It Out Loud: This was one of my favorite methods during my first two semesters. Repeating everything out loud really helps me remember information, but... if you're around other people, it can get a little annoying (so maybe save this one for your room lol).
౨ৎ Explaining the Topic to Someone Else: One of my FAVORITE methods, whenever my friends and I study together, this is usually what we do. We divide the topics, everyone becomes an "expert" in one section, and then we explain everything to each other; I swear this works SO well when there are a lot of topics for one exam, and if u study alone, u can still explain the topic to yourself (yes... I literally talk to myself lol).
౨ৎ Reading Over and Over: This was my main study method during my first semester, it works... but after a while it feels soooo exhausting, still, I have to admit it helped me a lot during embryology.
౨ৎ Blurting: I think blurting works... but only if you've already studied the topic before. For me, it's more like a way to check how much I actually remember rather than my main study method.
I even like combining it with the podcast method: first I listen to the topic, then I try blurting everything I remember.
౨ৎ Mind Maps: Personally... I hate making them, but I know a lot of people absolutely love them, so maybe they're just not for me.
౨ৎ Highlighting: I think highlighting is useful, but I see it more as a study tool than a study method; it's great for organizing notes and identifying what's actually important, but I wouldn't rely on highlighting alone.

These are just my personal opinions, and what works for me might not work for u. Everyone learns differently, and honestly that's completely okay. Let me know if you've tried any of these methods or if there's another one that works really well for u. I'm always looking for new ways to study lol.
Hope u liked this post, see u soon, luv u (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) ‹𝟹

my top 10 tips for getting out of a studying slump
start off with a topic that doesn't feel like studying to you, even if it isn't necessarily relevant to what you need to study. learning about something you are passionate about can help get you warmed up and motivated! (i like to warm up with potentially pointless, but nonetheless fun, vocabulary words, like pulchritudinous😋)
pick a studying location where you know you will be productive, and set the atmosphere. turn off any distracting devices, find a comfortable enough place to sit that you will not feel lazy in, alter the lighting to suit your needs if possible, using lamps / candles / natural light, and play music or ambient background sounds if either of those help.
prepare a list of what you want to study and organize it by importance. try to hit all of the most important subjects without burning yourself out. if you are reaaally stuck in the slump, simply start with whatever feels easiest or least draining, and you can work up to the hard stuff later!
set up a rewards system based on your productivity! you can reward yourself with self care, purchases, etc. and base the system on your number of pages of notes taken, how many pages you've read from your textbooks, hours studied, or any other unit to measure your studying☺️ give yourself a gold star for every subject you tackle if that helps you!⭐
use the note-taking or studying methods that work for YOU, not whatever the internet says is best or most popular. i, for example, cannot standddd pomodoro technique and feel like i'm going insane if there is a timer keeping track of my time / productivity, so i don't use it. trying to force myself to use pomodoro literally makes me want to burn all of my notebooks. do what works for you!
get yourself a favorite drink or snack! i love to have a snack and some coffee prepared so i have plenty of energy + fuel for my brain! preferably some carbs as they are necessary for your brain to function🥨🍌
start with a review of what you already know! i like to go over what information i am already familiar with because it makes me feel less like i am falling behind, and is a bit of an ego boost when i realize how much i already have learned.
figure out what your motivating factors are. something that really helped me was to get a more clear-cut idea of what i wanted to do with my future, so i had something specific to work towards. if you aren't ready to take that step yet, you can pick smaller goals, like making family proud, growing as a person / being more intelligent, achieving a certain gpa, etc.
limit device usage during your breaks!!! it is so, so easy to say you are just going to check your notifications on social media while you take a quick studying break, only to realize you are 3000 videos deep into instagram reels with no escape in sight. don't give in!!!
make sure you are taking good care of yourself outside of your studying🌞 not sleeping and taking poor care of yourself, amongst other factors, will definitely make you feel a lot worse and make it harder to focus when you need to get things done. you can even pick something cute to wear while you study and imagine you are in a movie, completing highly important tasks for whatever purpose. again, give your studying meaning!! even if you have to make it up! self care is very crucial to self confidence, which I'd argue ties directly into your ability to find motivation and believe in yourself, as cheesy as it may sound.
hopefully some of those were able to help you!! i believe in you, if no one has told you that today, and i know you can achieve great things! lmk any tips you would also like to share!!💗🫂

my trick for getting through grad school is learning to navigate the quadrants with all their nuances
📚How to romanticize studying ✮
the art of being — series n. 03
learning shouldn’t be a burden or a way to seek approval from others. it is an act of devotion to your own mind and your future self. it’s about growing your knowledge, not just filling a page. here is how to make your study time feel truly magical:
✦ create your "intellectual nook" 🕯️
avoid studying in bed. clear your desk, light a scented candle, and place a small vase of fresh flowers nearby. your environment should inspire you to be the most focused version of yourself.
✦ stationery as a love language 🖋️
use notebooks that feel good to touch and pens that glide effortlessly. pick pens with fun animals if you like them, or highlighters of your favorite color. when your tools are beautiful, taking notes becomes a creative ritual rather than a chore.
✦ the classical soundtrack 🎻
play some soft classical music or "dark academia" ambience in the background. it helps you transition into a different world, one where you are the heroine of a story. u could also try some frequencies that helps your concentration.
✦ tea & brain food ☕
prepare a pot of your favorite herbal tea and serve it in a porcelain cup. turn your break into an elegant "tea time" moment—a true pause for the soul, not just a quick stop.
✦ sensory 🎧
try chewing a specific gum while you’re revising, and then chew the same one during the test. i’ve experienced this myself — it truly helps because it triggers your sensory memory, making it easier to recall what you studied.
✦ fictional motivation 📜
try different ambiences to romanticize your focus: pretend you’re a heroine who needs to save the world with the information you’re studying. if you need to rush, put on some mario kart music and pretend you have to finish before you lose the race. or, if you want peace, put on some ancient music and pretend you’re a knight in the age of chivalry.
