Lit candle in broad daylight because somehow Europe doesn't understand the concept of please-get-dark-after-5-pm. My last class ended and this might have been the final lecture I ever attended in my life. Wow. I am still unfortunately procrastinating on my work but at least this semester is over.
Second year in med school (or what the hardest year so far thaught me š )
Second year in where I study is known as a place nobody really wants to return toā¦and now I get it. We studied mainly 3 subjects which were Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistryā¦the āholy trinityā. Donāt let winter exams fool you- they feel like sunshine and rainbows, but nothing compares to the storm that the summer exams bring! āļøšŖļø
Subject rate
Anatomy 2/10 āļøāļø
āI wanna give you the zero, but thatās not possible, so I give you a two!ā
I knew Iāll have trouble with this subject the first day I opened my textbooks. These 2 years felt like hell studying it especially CNSā¦Muscles spiked my interest in Traumatology and Sports medicine tho, and that is the only reason I give it 2 stars!
āThe good doctor is first a good physiologistā
- Daniel Danielopolu
I loved Physiology from day 1! Reading it was like a break from all of the torture that anatomy gave me⦠not only that but the professor whoās lectures I attended was the sweetest guy ever and his passion for this subject came to me as well! The reason I give it less stars is because of the exam and how poorly the grading system is made.
Biochemistry 5/10 āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø
Yep. Even Iām surprised as how high of a grade that is! I had a love/hate relationship with this subject. I was both fascinated as how the cells work on this molecular level and frustrated at how hard it is to grasp the content sometimes! The exam was horrible and more than half my grade failedā¦
Lessons (outside of medicine) that I learned
1. Itās not hard, itās just new.
I said that in one of my first posts this school year but I will say it again and again! Just because you donāt get a concept the first time doesnāt mean it wonāt ever stick!
2. Effort doesnāt equal results.
Sad but true and pretty self explanatory.
3. Professors are just humans who are not very kind sometimes and you just have to accept it.
I happened to meet some awfully rude professors and doctors this year. Just showed me how I do not want to act towards anyone ever.
4. Everyone has their own journey at their own paceā¦
ā¦which doesnāt disqualify them from being capable and knowledgeable.
5. Never EVER compare yourself to others
People in med school are competitive which is nice and motivating until it isnāt. Try to say out of this toxic place and donāt compare your situation to someone elseās.
WHEW! I really locked in today. I worked from 7am to 9pm, just sitting at my desk and taking really occasional breaks for a few minutes. Not sure how I was able to accomplish that. But, really happy I did! Now I'm significantly caught up on school!!! :D
What I accomplished:
Studied the entire week 4 of biostats
Studied the entire week 5 of biostats
Completed about 50 questions for problem set 2 biostats
It is 1am and I am lovingly looking at pictures of my old study desk lol. In the morning Iāll add ādecorate my new study spaceā to my summer bingo sheet āļø
hey jsyk while hellofresh is dummy expensive and i wouldnāt reccomend it if you already know how to cook (if youāre a beginner like i was when i had it for 3 months, then itās worth it), you should know that ALL OF THEIR RECIPES are free on their website and they all fuck hard
i will say that all the cooking instructions for veggies are pretty much the same (season with salt + pepper and roast on the top oven rack at 425F), but if it aināt broke donāt fix it.
that being said, it also introduced me to methods i wasnāt at all expecting. i would have never thought to use cream cheese in my meat sauce, and now all my friends are constantly asking me to make my special rigatoni.
I am a person who uses Hello Fresh for realsies because it is a bit cheaper than groceries here and definitely cheaper than takeout, but we also remake the recipes when we want a specific one and don't want to wait for it to come around in the rotation again, and therefore I know The Secret Translations of Proprietary Ingredients:
"Cream sauce base" = make a roux, add milk according to how much cream sauce base you're supposed to have (ex: 4 oz cream sauce base = 4 oz milk)
"1 packet stock concentrate" = either one tablespoon Better than Bullion or, if you want to be really accurate, Savory Choice Broth Concentrate packets are available on Amazon and allegedly that's what they use
"Italian Heat Spice"/"Blackening Spice"/"Fry Seasoning"/etc.: I promise you someone on Reddit has figured out what spices they use and in what proportions for each mix, if it's not just a straight up branded mix (like McCormick Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon spice mix)
"Roasted Garlic Herb Butter" (and other compound butters, like truffle butter) = they're literally Epicurean branded butters, they do not hide this, you can buy them online
"Sweet Soy Glaze"/"Ponzu sauce"/"Hoisin sauce" = literally Kikkoman brand condiments: they don't hide that, either
"Sweet Thai chili sauce" = any sweet Thai chili sauce from the grocery store will do. We use Blue Dragon or Taste of Thai because that's what we can get in our grocery store.
06.30.2026 ā Itās so rainy and cold today, it feels like fall. This morning, Iām doing some easy exercises in my textbook for KCCLAās intermediate Korean B, as well as putting on my new hangul keyboard stickers (the scratch on ones indeed didnāt last).
