Shares Made Simple: Book Review
By Rodney Hobson
If like me you have ever wanted clear answers to questions like “what are shares?” and “How does the stock market work?” then you will know there is a hell of a lot of resources out there, but the vast majority of them assume prior knowledge or want you to explain every gritty detail when all you want is the high-level overview.
My reason for wanting information on these subjects was that, like many people, the stock market intrigues me. To some extent it controls how we live and what we buy, it has always seemed important to me to at least have a basic understanding of it. I also want to run my own business in the near future so I thought I had better start brushing up on these kinds of subjects.
Shares made simple covers these subjects very well and more importantly does it in an accessible way. It covers the following subjects:
shares
stock market
companies
investing
Knowing how a company creates and sells its shares, how a company finds and maintains its shareholder's interests by paying dividends, will all help to demystify how stocks are valued and what's really going on in the stock market.
It took me a few evenings to get through it cover to cover and has left me wanting to extend my new found (albeit basic!) knowledge and understanding of the stock market.
If you think this may be of interest to pick up a copy:

HTML & CSS design and build websites: Book Review
HTML & CSS design and build websites by Jon Duckett This book targets two key audiences, those that wish to learn how to build websites from scratch and those who have maybe dipped their toe in the world of web design but would now like to get a solid grasp on the fundamentals. It achieves this by providing you with no-nonsense, highly stylised and clear content which leads to a well-paced and rewarding read. Some of the key subjects it deals with are: Some of the key subjects it deals with are: - HTML structure, text, lists and links - How to use media such as images and videos - How to properly use forms - CSS fundamentals - How to control colour, text and images - How to layout a web page It takes you through all of these and more in short, clear chapters in the form of practical examples. It also teases you with additional information along the way with questions (along with answers) that a professional web designer might ask a potential client before starting a project e.g. - How many people are coming to your site? - What are your visitors looking at? - Where do your visitors come from? These give you some key areas to think about when starting or editing your own projects which are beyond the normal technicalities. I bought this book after trying 3 or 4 others, whilst I took knowledge away from them this was the book that really caught my interest and laid out the concepts for me in a way that was exciting and fun. If you want to really build websites and do it quickly this is a great book to start with. Buy it now: HTML & CSS: Design and Build Web Sites
