18/12/2018 - a generally good day

I’m back! Sorry for not posting in a while! I’ve been catching up on some work etc

Spent a whole day doing art today and had a sudden epiphany for an idea (which I’m very excited to try)

a gentle reminder that you did well this year. you met new people, learned new things and felt new feelings. you did so many things that made you scared. you picked yourself up off the floor after feeling completely defeated or heartbroken. there were some really tough nights but you survived them all. you made people happy just by existing. you accepted many goodbyes but the serendipitous meetings made up for them. it was your own hard work that paid off but you always downplay it or compare yourself to others. that’s not fair on yourself. you’ve come so far from the first day of this year. you have more wisdom and strength now. yes, other people seem more “successful” but does that even matter? please don’t think so lowly of yourself to only think about your failures. 2018 was your year of growth. I hope you take a moment to be kind to yourself, and believe that 2019 will be even better.

Spent the entire weekend in which my country turned 100 reading and studying; activity triggered by my last exam’s results. Being very close to giving up on school and going home????

4 weeks left and I’m done with this semester & exams start. 4 weeks to put myself together!

horrendous lighting but amazing work session in the library today~~ finished two assignments and rewrote some linguistics notes, i’ve been in a funk over these college applications so today felt really good!!

why you should keep going: end of semester and finals week

-the more days that pass, the closer you get to going home for break

-the Christmas lights will be on when you get back

-this is your last chance to prove you learned something over the past few months

-these grades could help you get a scholarship

-these grades might matter for grad school

-you’ve made it this far, you’re almost at the end of this set of classes

-all of the long nights throughout the semester brought you to this week

-you get to show them what you’re made of

-you don’t have to prove it to anyone, you can be a hard worker for yourself, you can be strong for yourself, you can be studious for yourself, you can be successful for yourself

-your effort is valuable no matter the outcome

types of students ; study locations

library - prints or handwrites everything, makes their own study guides, always forgets headphones, watches netflix during their study breaks, owns a million pens but only uses like two

cafe - chai or matcha fiend, dresses up to feel productive, organized purse or bag, studies with one earbud out, everything academic contained on laptop or tablet

in bed - tendency to skip classes that don’t take attendance, fond of bubble tea and sweets, studies best when wearing comfy clothes, addicted to cute stationary and pens

lounge - no inside voice, takes charge on group projects or study sessions, master at using microsoft office, owns a million insulated coffee mugs, wireless headphones, actually wears a watch

kitchen table - cannot study without a snack, only drinks coffee they made themselves, keeps phone plugged in 25/8, likes to spread out, makes to-do lists on scraps of paper then loses them

bedroom desk - a creature of habit, gorgeous bullet journal, fiend for candles or diffusers, easily distracted by youtube or tumblr, eats a lot of fruit as a snack, talks to themselves while studying
