Iâm teaching you âPlay Dead.â
The first thing weâll start training is your breathing. Slow, steady, even breaths. In, and out, pausing for a few moments between each just like you were sleeping. If you ever find yourself uncertain, just focus on this. Regardless of whatâs happening, just keep the rise and fall of your chest to a minimum.
Itâs a meditative state Iâm teaching you. You focus on your breathing, which in turn leads to a calmer mind. The physical rhythm of drawing in each breath lets you drift away from everything thatâs happening to your body.
âPlay dead.â
Eyes closed, body limp. You donât need to move. You donât need to think. I donât want a response from you so you donât need to worry about what sounds are the correct ones to make or how your performance as a participant will be measured.
âPlay dead.â When my hand starts to trace up your leg when you should be asleep.
âPlay dead.â When the alcohol in your system is too much and your spinning brain doesnât know what to do.
âPlay dead.â When the freeze response takes over and itâs the only comfort you have to cling to.
