I'm usually very open on ppl having their personal complains on 2012 Splinter but something i cannot just let pass is when ppl says he always remained out of the battles when his sons were in danger because he was a bad father.
Like guys idk how to explain this but Splinter in this version was deeply traumatized with the loss of his humanity and he was pretty old.
There's a reason why in 'Me, monster' the episode points out on how his students have started to surpass him in fight and why in later seasons he felt weaker, he was reaching an age where he couldn't do much and dying would mean that his kids would be alone.
This isn't a headcanon, it's something the show implied multiples times. I've even see people joking on how he died the few times he join a big battle and yes, that's the whole point. He wouldn't win, the risk is too much and he would only take it if necessary.
He was very strict, sometimes didn't gave the best advices and put too much on Leo but something like him not being always there was for more personal reasons than simply 'not caring enough'
