Sterling couldn’t stop the happy little whines that left him as Souji barreled him over, quickly getting back to his feet and instantly pressing his large head right into the young man’s arms. His tail just wouldn’t stop wagging as he tried to get as close to Souji as he possibly could manage, not wanting to be away from him for even a single second longer. 

“I’m sorry, Souji....I didn’t want to be away for so long, I missed you so much...!”

The second he saw how dizzy Souji looked, the shifter quickly changed into his human form and ran to the other’s side, gently pulling Souji against his chest. 

“Careful, you’re going to hurt yourself...” Sterling said, gently brushing the man’s hair from his face and doing his best to support Souji’s weight. “Do you need to lie down? You seem really out of it, are you okay...?”

“Souji....” Sterling jumped slightly, having been startled, but he was quick to hug him back, slowly sinking to the ground and shifting to hold him tight, burying his head into Souji’s soft hair, taking in his warmth, his familiar scent....All of it. 

“I missed you too....So much I couldn’t stand it...”

Sterling blushed as well, green eyes looking at the other softly for a moment. Giving a slight tilt of his head, the shifter couldn’t figure out why Souji felt like he needed to apologize. “It’s alright, Souji…” He replied softly, shifting his stance slightly and moving one arm to wrap around the other’s waist, the other hand still cupping Souji’s cheek. 

Leaning down, he captured the young man’s lips in a tender yet firm kiss, not quite sure how else to let Souji know that he too felt the same way about the other. Hopefully this would get his message across….

His heart was racing, the feeling of the other’s lips on his still with him as a phantom sensation.  He was… all over the place.  OR at least that’s how he felt, which is why he couldn’t help but apologize… for the kiss, for his earlier behavior, for everything… Apologizing was what he did best…

But he felt an arm circle his waist, suddenly closer to Sterling, and he looked up.  So in his own head, he didn’t hear the other’s reassurance.

But he understood this.  He melted into it with a soft hum, his cheeks burning.  Arms slid up and around Sterling’s shoulders, pulling himself closer to the other’s frame.  It… was such a relief…

He was so relieved...Feeling those arms around his shoulders, the other pressing closer, caused Sterling to tighten his own grip around Souji’s waist, pulling the slightly shorter male even closer. 

A low, possessive growl rose within the shifter’s chest, his instincts kicking in slightly as his tongue slipped out to run gently over Souji’s bottom lip, sharp canines carefully catching that soft bottom lip between his teeth and giving a light tug.

He had been going back and forth with himself the entire time, the nervousness around Sterling’s shifted form, the shy way he acted.  Because suddenly his best friend had turned human, sure… but there was no denying other factors…

So it was now, when his heart seemed to burst and to constrict all at once, that he decided to simply… act on what he was feeling.

He let out a soft sigh, relaxing more himself.  Warmth spread through him, enough to make him lean in a little closer hands gripping the other gently before he had the sense to pull away.  He couldn’t say anything, face bright red, licking his lips and panting lightly.  “I… I uh… I’m sorry…”

The male managed a weak little wag of his tail, paws tucking themselves under the shifter’s chest. “…I’m okay….Just not feeling the best today, I guess..” He murmured, though his voice and tone gave away the emotions he was really feeling. It didn’t help that there were also tear stains upon his fur, eyes still slightly watery, though he was truly trying to seem at least remotely okay. 

Souji frowned.  “Not feeling the best is kind of an understatement,, don’t you think??”  Not with his ears drooping and his eyes still so watery.  “You don’t have to hide things from me, Sterling.  I know… I’ve been weird the past few days, but I’m here for you.  I”m always here for you.”

Shifting into his human form, the blond looked up at Souji for a moment as he spoke. “...I know, I’m grateful for that, Souji....It’s just really difficult sometimes to think about what my life used to be like when I was with my family...With everyone asking questions about it all, I guess there are still some feelings that I didn’t even realize I’d been holding in until now...” He managed, his voice cracking and slightly stuffy due to the fact that he was still crying. 

Moving slightly, he rested his front half upon Souji’s lap and broke down a second time, his shoulders shaking with soft sobs and sniffles that managed to escape him. All he wanted at that point was just to know that the other was there, if Souji was there then he knew everything was okay.

At first, Sterling was a little bit unsure of what was happening, however when Souji murmured those words and began to lean closer, the shifter began to understand. Though he tensed just slightly at first, he soon relaxed, allowing those feather-soft lips to press against his own, green eyes fluttering slightly, though he soon allowed himself to relax completely, pressing back into the contact and raising a hand to gently cup the other’s cheek.
