Please make time, all the time, to check in with your partner.
I have been looking for wisdom in all corners and much to my surprise couldn’t find what I was looking for. By no means do I have such wisdom but I’ll share anyways because maybe you too find yourself in a similar struggle and at least you’ll know I can empathize.
Three years ago, though it feels like a lifetime, I was brand new to the kink world. I had experimented in the past but never with full intention behind it. But then I found her, or maybe she found me; we started with light scenes and eventually found ourselves entering into a 24/7 contract. And it was wonderful, blissful, beautiful.
When we started we both had little real responsibility beyond each other. As time passed I chased promotion after career jump after promotion. We created life. We created chaos.
Every aspect of my life demanded that I be on top. At work, at home. There was so little time to work on ourselves or each other that my perspective on our kink relationship didn’t just become skewed, it all together disappeared. We entered an agreement together that was supposed to shape every aspect of our lives and I did not hold up my end. I didn’t even realize I was (or wasn’t) doing it. I was so drained from everything else going on I was numb.
We didn’t talk about it. I felt so inadequate, and unworthy. My partner thought it was her, that she wasn’t worthy, that she did something wrong. I put her in sub space, in little space and abandoned her. I didn’t even know. And please don’t think that seeing your partner every night means you haven’t abandoned her.
Last night we dissolved our contract with the intention of a restructuring/re-roleing. There’s no new contract. This could have all been so easily avoided. Please check in with your partners, no matter how good and close you are they can’t read your mind. This lifestyle all relationships only work with truly open honest channels of communication.
So to summarize, check in with your partner all the time.
I repeat, check in with them all the ducking time.
If you can’t fulfill your responsibility as a top, let your bottom know, they deserve that. Same goes for you bottoms. it’s okay not to be at your fullest and need space or time but it’s not okay to leave someone unknowing.
I love you so much @the-gold-princess
