Resting between work and work made this drawing of Lettie Lutz, my favourite character of The Greatest Showman. I loved this film.
zac efron rehearsing for the greatest showman
and from now on, these eyes will not be blinded by the light
↳ The Greatest Showman (2017) “I can’t just run off and join the circus. Why not? You clearly have a flair for show business.”
circusofamilliondreams:
He doesn’t press for Phillip to finish, but he can guess how that sentence was going to end and the thought made his chest ache. “You’re pulling more than your weight, Phillip,” Phineas insisted. “You’re just out of the hospital after running into a burning building, I don’t think anyone’s going to judge if you take it easy. …No one except you, looks like.” He grasped the other man’s shoulders gently, to make sure Phillip looked him in the eye. “That fire wasn’t your fault. None of that was your fault.”
Trust P.T. to get to the heart of the problem in no time flat. And with little tact. He’d be annoyed if he wasn’t so damned grateful for the words finally being out in the open.
He looks down at his feet so the older man won’t see his face crumble, and when he looks up he’s mostly composed. “How can you say that?” His voice is small, defeated. “You left, and when you came back, everything you built was in ruins.” He sighs, runs his hand through his hair, tries to lean out of the man’s undeserved grip. “I’m the only thing that changed.”
Musical Countdown (10/10)
↳ The Greatest Showman (2017) “Watching it come true, it’s taking over you.”
distrcss:
—Has left the circus? That couldn’t be true, could it? Why would someone leave their business the moment everything goed well? It was all just very confusing to the female and it made her hesitant to even continue the conversation she was having.
“You can’t do anything for me, I was looking for Mr. Barnum. He offered me a job.” she responded, almost sounding like she was attacking him. “A while ago, though. I doubted the offer would still stand but, hey, a girl can try.” The brunette shrugged and offered him a smile that was rather forced. “You should really do something about your security; anyone can just walk backstage without you knowing about it. Good luck with the cleanup—”
It’s not the first time he’s gotten this reaction, and he doubts it’ll be the last. When people come to see Barnum and they find him instead, some high their surprise or displeasure well, but most openly look him up and down, wondering where the creator of the wonders they’ve seen has gone to. Not one to share personal information, he settles with the simple answers, which appeases most. But.
For a moment, he thinks about letting her go. It’s a power-play, but it’s been delivered well, so he takes a breath and follows her step for step.
“If P.T. promised you a job, the least I can do is see your act,” he says to her flowing hair, hands at his sides and shoulders squared. When he catches her eye, he grins and says, “most people see the lions and decide backstage isn’t really for them, anyway.”

Getting out of the hospital is easier than Phillip thinks it should be, quite frankly. Getting out without Anne getting dirty looks was another matter entirely. (Although, she’s doing an incredible job at ignoring them, which is really just unfortunate evidence to how adjusted she is to the more deplorable side of America.) Before he’s left, he’s had to yell at three different people, who he’s pretty sure only buckle and walk away because his yelling sounds something like what a seventy-year-old man would sound like.
When he finds out they’ve all been staying at the Barnum’s, who’s house is probably being taken by the bank soon, everything suddenly comes rushing back at him. The circus is gone, mere ash in the grey afternoon.
He hails them a carriage and can’t really focus on anything, his elation at Anne being a strong presence at his side dimmed by the bleak future he can barely see ahead of them. He will not go back to his parents’ house, and Anne And W.D. might actually be homeless.
When they get situated in the carriage, Phillip wincing despite himself, he takes her hand in his as they’re drawn down to the Barnum’s estate. “I’m sorry,” he says to her knuckles, rubbing them beneath his thumb.
circusofamilliondreams:
Phineas sighed quietly, not really surprised when Phillip dug in his heels. They were both the stubborn sort, after all.
“I know. And I know you care, I’m glad you care about them. But they care about you too, and so do I. We don’t want you to keel over, all right?” A short, thoughtful pause. “…Maybe we can find some less stressful work for you, something that doesn’t involve heavy lifting.” Phineas tried not to make it sound pitying, because he honestly didn’t intend it that way - though he wasn’t sure how successful he was in doing so.
While there’s more argument poised on the tip of his tongue, the slight pleading in P.T.’s voice brings him to pause, the irritation at being pitied extinguished, a hot blaze doused in water. His goal isn’t to overwork himself, he just....can’t stop. Eyebrows pursed, he looks around before speaking again.
“I hear you, Phin,” he says, Charity’s pet name slipping out on accident. He does hear him, even if he doesn’t like it. “I do. But everyone is working together to get this done. I can’t not pull my weight, I can’t do that to any of you, especially since-”
Phillip pulls his mouth in a sharp line, even as his eyes widened, teeth clenched against the words he doesn’t want to poison the air between them.
You set off a dream in me. Getting louder now. Can you hear it echoing?

First art of 2018! This bit in The Greatest Showman was pretty… Thought it would make a good lighting exercise.
My favorite thing about The Other Side is when Phillip “extra™️” Carlyle argues profusely that he does not want to join the circus, PUTTING HIS HAT ON AND GETTING READY TO LEAVE, before taking off his hat and TURNING AROUND in the most dramatic way possible and jumping on a bar, just to make his point really clear
