A beginner's view at running

I started running in July of 2012. I'm on a journey to place in the top 10 of my age category before I hit 50. This is a blog about the things I experience and learn.

Well Instagram, it's been fun but it's time. It's been awhile since I've contemplated it, but I'm making a decision to get off the grid from ALL Social Media mediums for good by deleting my accounts. There are many reasons that I can't list here, but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has encouraged and supported me along the way. I am a better person and athlete because of it. New Personal Best. I walked my very first half marathon. Yup, walked. 4 hours and a foot blister later, I did it. And I'm not in a hurry to try and ever beat it. Blister came from wrong socks and shoes.

Half Mary in 2 weeks. Last hard long run. Aimed for sub 1:30 but missed by a lot. Running off 6 hours of sleep and no breakfast. Good thing I'm #poweredbypocketfuel! Calves cramped up last 5km. Does not matter how bad the run is, always smile in your selfies😜

While on our Kid-Venture today, we stopped by the river for a breather and turn around point. My oldest son, bottom left, was sitting on a rock pondering something. I don't know what he was thinking about, but it gave me my opportunity to look at him and be thankful he's my son. #MomentMaker #ProudPapa #DadLife #ParentAthlete #YEG #Sky #Clouds #River #LifeIsShort

And back to my regular scheduled half mary training. 13km. Ran some hills and even tried some trails as a mock to my newest ultra team race in October. It's going to be a great race season.

Yup. This just happened. Registered for a Team Ultra Marathon in the beautiful Rockies. I think I've been assigned the 14k leg out of the 50. I've never run trails before so I figured this may be a pretty cool way to start. #FurtherFasterForever #GrizzlyUltra #trailrunning #WhatDidIJustDo

When it snows on race day and in the month of May, I can honestly look back now and be grateful for all the -20C training I did a few months back. I laugh in sub zero temps😜.

Couldn't catch these kids off the line. Way too quick for me. 3rd overall / 1st in age category. Pleased with my results still. My kids are troopers waking up at 6am to cheer me on. #proudpapa #runwild14 (at Leading Edge RunWild Marathon 2012)
